My grandpa was forced to take up a job in a cabinet shop, because between the small town economy and the state taxes on the farm, he just couldn't make enough money to support the family. My dad left the farm and went on to be an auto body repairman, but dang it if that farmin blood didn't just skip a generation. I hold a deep passion for the lifestyle my grandpa and all my ancestors before him led, and I hope to one day live it, along with a regular job, to support the family.

I wholeheartedly support your passion to keep on farming, but I'd suggest you take up a vocational skill as well. Try learning welding, or diesel mechanics or something that pays well that hard working men are proud of and able to do.

@thecountryboy4020 Besides the American part, I use to be just like you. I am Canadian. Everybody and even my dogs told me not to farm. I said f*** you. I was a pig farmer, and lost my a**. I am now a grain farmer, about to get into cattle (I've been in cattle for about 15 years --- since i was 10 --- but sold them all to buy into grain two years ago). I have an oilfield job just too support my "farming habit" But damn if it isn't a good life. Do what you love!!!!!!!! And F*** The rest!!!!!!
