I have this record In fact I think I have two LP's of Tony up in the loft I think I will get me a USB turn table which I think will enable me to get Tony back on the Air Waves he used to Visit us in Ripley Derbyshire and Alfreton Derbyshire as well as some other venues I used to frequent.
Tony was a good friend. I never realised there was so much of him on YouTube. I have spent a while listening to some of his material on here and yes, a sad smile has been on my ugly mug all this time.
Hearing him again takes me back to our local folk club where I started out as a teenager. Tony's In - laws lived nearby and he tended to come and try out new songs on us prior to using them in bookings.. Also, he could have a pot or two and walk up the road for the night.
@ian1867 Thanks Ian, I just really needed to put him on the 'new technology', frightened that he may be largely forgotten- certainly the Sheffield media he worked for did not light up his passing on. I cant forget the way he took me under his wing as a lanky, naive, hopeful teenager (me that was), let me into his family (if kids and dog likes thee, thas' reet), and remained a friend always. Miss him?-its the sun going down. thanks for looking in.
Hi pinknblues, thanks for putting this up! I'm a huge Tony Capstick/folk mus fan, managed to get hold of Punch & Judy Man & a couple of other things on CD, but could only find my absolute fave, His Round (with Hedgehog Pie) on vinyl - I'm not sufficiently technologically advanced to work out how to get it on to MP3/CD, is there any possibility you might have Sir Thomas of Winesbury from that album & be able to put it online? I absolutely love it! Cheers:)) Claire
Cheers roland evry'thing you said is right true, and I've dun this Utube thing so as folk dont forget him too easily -I dont think they will mind you, but maybe anyone who did'nt hear about Tony or was too young might seek out his music! Good to hear from you, thanks so much!
@rolandgeordie hi,just want to say i really like what you said about tony, and ive become a fan by accident through hovis, weird thing is seeing a picture of him i seem to recognise him and me mam too,im so sorry hes gone,i think an hour in his company would cheer the saddest person up,capstick comes home is my safety laugh, when im low i put that on and im laughing, and i just bought the record a few weeks ago,all the best.
It was me who made the request for this song. Thanks again pinknblues1. My brother used to be a big fan of folk music and I remember him playing this record in the 1970s - I was a bit younger than him but I'd go into his room and sit on the floor and listen to his records. So its a nice childhood memory for me - very vivid. :)) I also love the song though. Now Im all grown up and universiry educated etc. I'm a real fan of Lloyd George and the Liberals, and this song says why! :))
Wonderful stuff! I have two albums by Tony C & love them to bits - Never heard of this album before though - would love to hear more.
