Arguably the most important moment in the entire opera, and I can't think of any soprano in audio history who excels in this work more than La Caballe. Finally, through the operas numerous trials, archetypal expressions and dramatic narrative; we finally see the humanity and vulnerability of Bellini's most dynamic heroine. No other soprano has captured these sentiments within their art and expression more than Caballe.
@Thewisemonkey9 "I can't think of any soprano..." "No other soprano has captured these sentiments ...."
Have you ever heard Maria Callas singing Norma? I don’t want to diminish Montserrat Caballé (far from that!), but you must realise that with such statements, you don’t express but personal opinion and nothing else.
@Aetion Yes... I think I have heard and own a copy of every Norma recorded (both live & studio) with La Callas in the role. The is no doubt that Callas excels in the character or attributes of Norma which address the macroscopic attributes of Norma's characterization.
I am not expressing a 'personal opinion'... rather I merely comment on the chosen from of expression of these two artists and enjoying the differentiation between the two.
La Caballe's Norma is truly vulnerable and womanly
Bravo Onegin65 for giving us such a pleasure! And your choise is super!
