@auggiedoggy yeah they're not a super affectionate breed if that's what you're looking for.. they're extremely loyal in the long term and quite loving, but they're not like... come-snuggle-on-my-lap-babycak­es! my shiba puppy always fidgets unless she's tired, wants to be pet, or if i have treats.. still working on it. aha

@auggiedoggy they are like cats.....affectionate on their terms, and walk away when they are done. it's uncanny. if you want an obedient dog that comes when called, get another breed. : ) shibas are very aloof. keeshound, a related breed, are much friendlier and very affectionate.

@nycartist9 : My Norwegian Elkhound was much like you describe so I'm used to independant dogs. He did "allow" a hug once in a while though. ;o) Are Shibas social (like to be around their owner(s) or are they loners?

@auggiedoggy they are moderately social....it also depends how you train them. Training is very important so they learn YOU are the pack leader. Submission is not second nature to this breed. Usually they have one person that they favor, and listen to them. But with their independence, you can leave the house for longer periods of time and they won't have separation anxiety like some other dogs.

If you think this shiba is uncomfortable then you clearly haven't owned a shiba or something. That shiba isn't mad at all. That's just a restless shiba that wants to wrestle or run around. To me it looks they're showing how funny he/she is when wanting to get down.

Back up a step. When i said put her down, i meant put her down on the floor, not put her to sleep. I have two shibas. The first was a rescue that was too agressive and the previous owners gave him away for free. The second female was for breeding and she used to attack every animal in sight. It's there nature. Now they both know who is boss (me) and are friendly and haven't attacked each other in years. What this video is showing is simple submission training. Every Shiba owner goes thru it.
