Stanislaus Zbyszko was probably the greatest professional wrestler of all time. Even at 70, you can tell he could easily have disabled a man with a flick of the wrist. What technique!
The book upon which the film is based, written by Gerald Kersh, is fantastic and well worth searching out. It's been out of print for ages, but London Books issued a lovely new edition earlier in the year.
I like the scen before even better when Widmark's character tricks the bigger wrestler in the bar into going over and starting the fight. LOL... 'You're a dead man, Harry Fabian.' Widmark died today. What a loss. This is my favorite con-man movie. He was just too slick for his own good.
I hate violence, but I don't see much wrong with letting brutes annihilate one another.

Gregorius is right - greco-roman wrestling is an art and is the real thing, not like the BS we have today.

I love the snarling. They're like animals. So feral.

Fantastic. The lack of music makes it almost unbearable to watch. The intensity! Thanks for posting.

I cannot believe this scene is no more than five minutes. The brutality of the match seem to last so much longer. Good Upload.
