This whole day at Reading is etched into my memory forever. CFCBarney recalls Peely dj'ing. I remember John Peel sitting down with us and buying us a drink when it was his round truly a hero who walked amongst us and a man with true humility
@goastsighting Its impossible to have a single favorite NO song. In fact if somebody put a gun to your head and said "Tell me your favorite now or I'll blow your brains out!" Yip they'd get splattered. It's tougher than Sophi's Choice. It can't be done. Oh there are those that'll try and say they do but they're lying
Ah ! What a fucking nite...remember it well....just comming up on acid and a pucker !!! ACE TUNE !!!....Peely Dj'ed inbetween acts and dropped P E's '' She Watch Channel Zero'' New Order delivered that nite big time....x
I'm joining in on the 'I was there too' ... this was a brilliant gig (it doesn't sound that great here but it was). N.O. had just finished a US tour and brought these huge speakers that sat out in the field - the sound was just crystal clear with the lasers scanning across the night sky...
I was there too, though missed the start of the set as we went into Reading for a few beers and 'clear the guttering'. Got back pissed, fell asleep and awoke to hear the unmistakeable sound of New Order. Raced across and caught the last of the set. I'm pretty sure Hooky smashed his bass up at end ? Unless my memory serves me wrong. Old bastard now.
I wish they would have brought back Vanishing Point in recent years; it's such a burner, particularly when Barney goes nuts (i.e. July 5, 1989 in Ohio).
This takes me back to the USA89 tour where like a madman I attended all of the shows in North America and Canada (ok, I missed Puerto Rico!) In total I saw them 142 times between 1983 + 1989. The band you apparently see now on stage is a far cry from the band I remember. 8 tracks, saying nothing (except for vocally abusing the audience) then walking off. Encores in those days were NON-EXISTENT. IMO they were at their greatest between 1984 + 1986, and I feel privileged to have been a part of it.
You are right I can't pick a favorite . There are too many good ones.

Absolutely classic tune, one of my favourite NO songs, but then they barely have a bad one so you're spoilt for choice

saw them in the US that year in LI, New York. They were part of a triple bill w/ OMD and PIL. They called it the "New Music Seminar".

New Order had a very hedonist year that year, barney actually burned his stomach lining from excessive pernod

Pernod, man that stuff smells awful but I've used it for dishes and it works well. Didn't know Barney drank that stuff, poor dude.
