  • WTF did you say between 3:40-3:45...i think i heard your going to want to pin your card correctly...Like i have a 9800gt 512?

  • @th3d0n123 :P yeah I slur my words a lot and am not all that articulate.

    9800GTX 512

  • @th3d0n123 it's also my New Zealand English being derp. So, "depending on what card you have, it's going to run kind of 'crapily' (aware it is not a word :P)

  • @SlaveExplosion Hahaha thanks...Can you answer another question of mine..Do you have an issue with downloading maps and what not?

  • Whenever I type winefile and go into the cdrom0 folder and click the .exe file, i get a pop up saying "No installer data could be found. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support."... any help?

  • @marblethatmops It will be because you haven't unhidden the disc properly.

  • Nice tutorial!! Thx.

Also nice Desktop and efftects, how can i do it?

  • @lucasribeiroufrj Desktop theme is Elegant Gnome, and the window effects are just part of Gnome, and the dock is called Docky.

    Thanks :)

  • Everything worked and when starcraft 2 opened the buttons for install manual support and exit dont show..... can anyone help me

  • one last question is it normal for the game to be laggy I think the culprit maybe because I have dual monitors ..but it does keep itself nice on my "main" monitor maybe I should disconnect one when Im playing

  • DUDE you are AWESOME lol I actually had the motivation to do it cause was installing openSUSE on laptop and went through your instructions the SC2 installer popped up and is now installing you da best! Thanks!!

  • @audiozprojekt No problem :) I made this only because a lot of people had been asking about it on forums and things. It seems to help 50% of people, and the rest are either doing it wrong, or their Linux variant is different from mine. Anywho, cheers :)

  • ok i have the problem that the game crashed when i want to play on some cards

or on some user game mods

    had anyone the same problem?

    and know someone the answer?

  • o my god

it works i thanked you so much

    THANKS

  • @Souveraenitaet no problem :D

  • how do I hide and unhide properly I followed all your ccommands and got this output after: sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0 -o uid=1000,gid=1000,unhide,umask=0000

I got: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

  • @audiozprojekt That message means you've done it properly :P It just means that it has mounted the disc for reading, and since all you need to do with the disc is read from it, you're fine, just open winefile and run the installer from the folder you mounted it to.

  • @SlaveExplosion i tried doing that and nothing happened :(

  • @audiozprojekt whats even weird is that once i pop in a disc there is no disc icon that usually shows up on the desktop ..its weird i cant open the cd directory...

  • @audiozprojekt yea i found that out with flash drives as well but found out the partition was unallocated so had to use gparted dont know for CD's

  • @SlaveExplosion i have a bigger problem that is when I had ubuntu 10.10 now I have 11.04 xD and now this message shows up after the first unmount command: "sudo: unmount: command not found

    "

  • @audiozprojekt it's umount, not unmount :P

  • @SlaveExplosion oh dam lol thanks haha

  • you need to type BIGGER

  • @minemine1ful What else do you need to see aside from what I pasted in the description???

  • it says "no installer data found"

  • @keetoowah11294 That means you haven't unhidden the disc properly.

  • nice guide, thanks alot

  • thanks for your tutorial.... itis running great when I install sc2 from the cd... but when the blizzard downloader starts the download stops randomly ... and if I want to start sc2 again after I've closed it, ubuntu tell me that there is anohter version of blizzard downloader running.... hope you can help me :/

  • it says that i do not have permission to the C root driver, however i am the only one with a login on my computer, nor do i have a multi-OS; is there any way that i can change this?

    Thanks a lot.

  • when you finished the download, how do you make the game size not full screen? is there a code, or does it do it automatically?

  • @paper2man I'm not sure if I know what you mean. Are you talking about adjusting the in game options for making it windowed??

  • @SlaveExplosion Yes, how to make it windowed? Will it go automatically or do i have to type/press something?

  • @paper2man Just adjust the in game options to "windowed" with the res you want... and press ok, should work fine :\

  • I've done this successfully as my login. My brother logs in and wants to play using his account and he can't access the directory it's installed into. How do I get it to where we can both play it with each of us logged in?

  • @cl3tUs Tried adjusting the permissions? Things like this is why I'd never ever bother with multiple logins on the same computer ^^

  • @SlaveExplosion

Yes :( I gave full rights for him to access wine C:, then I used your tutorial on his user name and it would get to a certain point and never progress. Then, when I switched to my username, it'd say that it couldn't mount in my user account...

Maybe it would help if I wasn't logged in at all?

  • @cl3tUs I'd say install wine and SC2 on a new account called "Wine" or something. Then give both you and your brother access so that you can run SC2 from that account, while still in your account.

  • @SlaveExplosion

I do have another question as well... I've been getting a message that said that my computer is slowing down the game... I have 8 GB RAM, Hybrid Solid State Drive, 3.2 GHz Hexacore AMD, 1GB video card.

  • @cl3tUs What video card is it? To be honest, I wouldn't worry about that too much, it could also be internet related, not necessarily your computer.

  • How do I know what dev to use mate?

  • @YukonCorneleone I know what you mean, I'm constantly having to switch between Linux and Windows and it's making me rage ^^. I have no clue why you're not getting a higher fps, that's quite bizarre.

  • @YukonCorneleone With my 9800GTX I get 30+ on medium, but I play on low. So yes you should be getting around 50 with that card. You sure Wine is up-to-date? Also, are you using any compiz desktops or anything graphical taxing on your setup?

  • does it work with ubuntu 10.10 64bit version?

  • @shankitar Yes, I'm running 64 bit.

  • @SlaveExplosion Great! thank you!, 1 more questions if youo don´t mind, that kind of "Dock" on the left, how you get it? with ubuntu tweak? and those icon? i really like how your ubuntu looks like :D

  • @shankitar the desktop theme is "elegant-gnome" and the docky is called "Docky".

To get Docky just type "sudo apt-get install docky" in a terminal. ( I think :P)

  • @SlaveExplosion Thaaaaankss!!

  • mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

    ^

what does this mean and what should I do about it? Sorry if this is a noob question I just started using linux

  • Also P.S. thank you in advance for your time and effort

  • @ginga1911 Nah it's fine, it just means that it's mounted all the files on the disc for reading, instead of writing. Since you just want to install the game (reading files) this is all you need.

  • The only problem I am running into is a run time error after 50% download. If you could please direct me in the right direction on hows to fix this? thanks :)

  • linux looks boss.

  • @davothejailman69 lol davo haha. There's a lot of customisation, you should try it :P
