I've been lure fishing for pike for the past week and don't know a lot about rods. Can you please explain what the difference is between a cylinder reel with the hoops on the rod on the bottom. And a sideways reel with the hoops on the top of the rod?
Wow I feel stupid! I just went buy a 7 foot ugly stick and an alpha reel and thought it didn't fit! As soon you said twist it was a face palm moment!
i got a 7.5 foot pole....i'm using a light weight sppon lure...i'm wondering....since i got to tie a weight to it....how far away from the lure should it go?....5 inches to 10 inches?
i got a rhino indestructible rod with a quantum optix 40 reel. im not shure what "action" my rod is.it dousent say on it anywhere. im guessing is a med because ive shook a cupple stiffer rods ive fished the sea (purtch) river (salmon/steel head), creek( trout). and pounds. i think its an awesome set up with 8-12 pound line. i ownly use the 12 if im going to fish the beach or salmon/steel head.
by the way, i just now found out i needed to clean my reel! it feels why better nice and smooth.
That is a good video for the beginners or those like myself who have not touched a pole in over twenty years. I am fishing here in Arkansas off of the bank in a river, and maybe at a lake later. Just retired and want to fish so I can fill the freezer and can eat plenty of fish.
The rods in the ugly stick line up offer a well balanced rod with a grip equal to the task at hand!
The question is what kind of fish are u going after? Are u looking to invest in a rod that will handle bass and take on catfish? This is important, in that the best all around is going to be the Med. Action rod, of any brand. The amount of control needed in both bass and cat fishing are vastly different to the action of pan-fish and trout let me know?
