from the sound of it, the car is more base-ey like it sounds better in person, i used to have a SVT focus as a DD and while it did have many many problems, when it ran right it was great, mine had almost 200k miles when it quit, now its got a rear drive 4.0L engine from my old mustang, which is now a 4.6 swap.....lots of time and money lol, basically SVT=win

I've done something similar to my Mazda3 but instead of completely straight piping it back, I've installed an 18" x 2" Stainless steel Magnaflow muffler in place of the resonator. Sounds great and I still have a bit of back pressure . . . I can't imagine how loud it would be if I were to have cut out the Catts lol Sounds good mang!!

The reason I think he actually lost horsepower is because he lost exhaust scavenging efficiency, decreased exhaust velocity, and didn't actually increase flow. Plus, now he has a backfire if you listen, that's what that crackle is. When you're backfiring coming down in RPMs it's indicative of a misfire, which will happen both at WOT and no throttle, thus, lost power.

Don't question how much I know about cars.

@Slipknotyk06- That car backfired even before the delete kit. The muffler muffled the sound out. And back pressure, what you were referring to, is not a matter with this specific engine. He'll gain a "mpg" And maybe 2 horsepower. Certainly won't lose it. On a 2 STROKE, yes, you would lose horsepower. Back pressure is essential. But not this kind of engine. Jolly good chatting with you.

@ClassicBowling - He exacerbated the backfire, thus losing BOTH MPG and horsepower. Exhaust velocity is ABSOLUTELY critical on these little 4 cylinder motors. Before they open up exhaust flow, they need to increase intake flow, and the best way is new cams, cam gears, a new head, intake manifold, throttle body & spacer. None of which this vehicle has. A stock motor usually loses power when a muffler AND resonator delete kit is installed (which are actually illegal where I live)

I have an SVT that is nearly identical, with a 'whale tail' mid spoiler and a VIS carbon fiber hood. I bought the car with the hood and probably would have spent the money elsewhere, but the carbon really sets off the orange and it weighs like 8 lbs, if that. I have a Borla header back system and it sounds great, but had to install a Bassani high flow cat to appease the man.

good question, the compression in the svt 2.0 compared to the non svt 2.0 or the 2.3 is alot greater and the back pressure is pretty non existant already. so no, he did not lose power by doing this, lets say it was a svt cobra, then yes, without a tune to compensate it would definatly (sp) take away power, with this foci svt i would just do a handheld tune with the mufflers cut out, would make a world of difference, sounds pretty cool man.

Bah, these things make power at such a high rpm range the back pressure doesn't mean crap. now My 5.8 Stang appreciates a little back pressure for the low end power but when I dynoed it out even that made more torque past 3500R's with no mufflers than with. But for everyday driving? I love my Flow 40's.
