  • Great review! Panther piss yippee!

  • Sorry man, didn't mean anything personal, just raggin' on you. Yeah, guess it has been a few years.

  • I have never met a barley wine I didn't like, but they are certainly not for everyone. This one wasn't for you, man.

Shame you had to chug it, but a bet is a bet. At least you cowboyed up and knocked it back.

I love Barley Wines. Wouldn't mind trying this one, if I could only get it. :-)

  • Damn, what a wimp! Chick beer my ass! Old Ruffian is a real man's beer. One of my personal favorites. Time for this guy to go back to his Michelob Ultra and Corona Light with lime. Guess he just can't handle anything that has any hops or alcohol in it. I bet he called his mommy crying about how he couldn't handle the big bad beer after this video finished.

  • To each his own Nick, such a bold comment from someone who doesn't even know me, this video was made 4 YEARS AGO! Did you ever think to man up and ask if my tastes have changed since this video? (which they have). I have had a countless amount of craft beer in my day, so please don't judge or insult someone you don't even know anything about, yer way off base, but I digress. - SP

  • lol, my girlfriend says you're a pussy. she drinks that shit for breakfast! I think we can agree though, Old Ruffian isn't as good as some of the other BWs floating around.

  • Your girlfriend is right, he is a pussy.

My favorite Barleywine is probably year old "Bigfoot".

  • chuggin a barleywine....hahaha....there we go!!

  • he does, quite a bit :)

    -spoon

  • If you don't like it...Chug it!

  • THey call it barley wine cause of the alchol content is similiar not cause it taste like wine.

  • It's called a barley wine because it can be as strong as wine; but since it is made from grain rather than fruit, it is in fact a beer. - SP

  • Thats what I was trying to say.

  • This guy would shit his pants if he drank a bottle of Thomas Hardy's ale.

  • had it, drank it, eat a bullet.

  • I don't care what you say but Ironcity or Beasters Ice over a Barleywine is crazy.. IMO of course...

    anyways funny review.. cheeris

  • Thanks 815! I have learned to appreciate "some" barley wines since this video was released but still not a favorite style by far. Beast and Iron is definitely crazy over a barley wine, just making a point! :)

  • Hahaha, that was funny watching your face. Barleywines are for sissies. I actually enjoy them, along with lots of other beers.

  • well, my insult backfired. are = arnt

guess Im the sissy. Regardless I did enjoy your video.

  • Old Ruffian is a great barleywine (imho), but I enjoy watching the chugging videos. Chug a 750ml bottle of Cantillon Gueuze Lambic and you'll earn my respect.

  • Thats EXACTLY the face i made the first, ( and only ) time I had Samischlausen. The only Barleywine I've ever like has been from Stone brewery in San Diego. And I don't generally like the "hop maniac" beer companies, I think its a cop-out...

    CHEERS!!!

  • I bet he never drank panther piss

  • It's all about personal opinion my friend! I like other barley wines but the old ruffian {in MY opinion) sucks!

  • "I'm not a real expert on barleywine style ales."

Those are your words. If you aren't qualified to offer an opinion on it, then why are you?

FYI this is one of the most mild barleywines out there.

It's likely very fresh. you should age a barleywine at least a year before consuming it. It will taste a lot smoother and the hop bitterness will subside.

    Cheers :)

  • C'mon people, don't get your panties in a bunch here, this was done for fun. I respect your opinions, respect mine. I'm offering my OPINION on it because that's exactly what it is, my OPINION, I respect the style, I just don't care for most barley wines, lighten up and leave it at that, no worries! :) There are 2 breweries that make barley wines I actually like, Weyerbacher's Blithering Idiot and Young's Old Nick. So just kick back crack a beer and most of all, relax!

  • he even says "dont ever ever ever buy a barley wine style ale"

  • Old Ruffian is one of the best American barleywines out there. It's one of the most balanced and very smooth. I guess if you don't like the style, it's one thing. However, you shouldn't trash the beer as being "panther piss" or "crap" just because you don't like the style, or don't have a lot of experience with the style. There is no doubt the barleywines are an aquired taste and not for everyone. Maybe you should stick to Keystone and PBR from now on.

    Chick beer? Yeah, right!
