The only thing that disturbs me personally, is that I have never ever ever seen Venus so bright. I am a quartermaster in the US Navy and have been shooting stars and planets for a good long while with sextant for purpose of celestial navigation. Venus is brighter than I can ever recall. Oh... Here;s a little physics for you Nibiru fans. From some unrelable sites I found that nibiru is at 1AU at perigee and around 100-200AU at apogee. Its unreliable as there is no star actually to measure but anyway that gives and average distance of (100-1)AU/2 =a~50AU. Keplers 3rd law gives: P^2[years]=a^3[AU] => a^(3/2)=P=(50)^(3/2)=353 years. Thus it would be in our orbit every 353 years... not only would it be seen but it would be heavly documented

interesting i noticed this bright low sun in the western sunset well its brightness could been seen even against or threw a blue sky this summer, westcoast vancouver. everyone i pointed it to had a therory from a bright star to the north star. it could only be viewed between 2000 and about 2230 as its low visability was made it almost unrecognizable. next time i see it i will take a visit to the ocean and see if its rockin normaly.

You can tell by the haze on the horizon that the sun has just set and Venus being the most luminous object in the sky would appear bright and on the same general line to where the sun set as it is further in system from us, just as you see in these pictures.

Our solar system is what astronomers like to call a binary solar system meaning we have two stars and each star has it's own set of planets. Our other star is a brown dwarf. If you see this again, get binoculars or a telescope,and try to focus on the planet. If you see 3 to 4 small satellites at an angle of 45 degrees next to the planet, then is Jupiter for sure..

Saturn is a bit more dificult to see because is usually not so bright. You were lucky to see them both so bright.

if you want to find out what exactly you have seen, get the Redshift 3 software, install it, and input the date, time and location.You propably were looking south - south west at that time.

Start checking south east first if it was early evening to south, south - west as the time pass.You will find the answer...

Hello I also observed this very bright star in Romania 26 Aug 2009 at 850 m alt in the mountains. Some said it's Mars some Venus others Jupiter but I made pictures myself at 4:41 CET in the morning with my Panasonic LUMIX Leika lenses X 12 zoom and it's red and sometimes seems doubble like Sirius. you're right; that's it, i think it is Nibiru. In any case it will become bigger 'cause it approaches, so from 2010 until 2013 we'll se him clearly i the sky. In 2011 almost everybody will observe him with naked eye. (it'll appear as a big red Sun).
