This is my favorite Pink Floyd song, been a big fan since almost 10 years now. I had never smoked and listened to this song.. until right now, and man it's the best fucking feeling in the world. But yeah, helloomotta, it's still not as good as sex.
@toufofun i echo your sentiments. Still love the Floyd after all these years. Im 54 now and hope to have many more years left ,but when i do go eventually i want "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" played at my wake. This is my favourite all time song.
this album art is so crazy you have elements from like 3 different albums the wall, wish you were here, and animals and that's just at first glance but not even close to how good this song is
The first time i heard "Shine on you crazy diamond" was when i was just 10 oder 11 years! Guess it was 1976/77. I was devasted and bought the LP when i got my first turntable at the age of 13. I played it all day long...and now it´s like i´m in a timemachine!
ages past this music lifted me from the earth... when i looked down there was just a few who made it inviting to return. beautifully made. well dedicated to Syd.
i am at work, listening to this, and tears are dropping uncontrollably from my eyes. i am technically crying but i don't feel any kind of misery. this is like being hypnotized. no, this is more like being on another dimension.
Same here. I was slowly closing my eyes, feeling every single note but still a bit tense. When I got to 4:30 I just completely let myself go while leaning back on the chair at the exact same time. I felt like my soul was exiting my body while feeling goosebumps and chills all over my body, a completely paranormal feeling.
anyone else watch football over this weekend and catch their reference to pink floyd? apparently some special teams coaches train players to trip players running down sideline by using a wall that they call "Pink Floyd" in reference to "The Wall" they make on the sideline.
driving in the valley, windows down, breeze through the hair, smoking a FAT joint, full moon, 72 degrees, stereo BLASTING THE FLOYD....ah, how i wish i was in my youth again !!! need i say more....WHAT SAY YOU ?!?!?!?
Coudn't agree more. Someday, in a nursing home you will hear Floyd blasting and the old hippies, like me, will be buying our weed from some young dude that likes floyde as much as we do and always will.... Live life to the fullest, it is the only one you get.
Coudn't agree more. Someday, in a nursing home you will hear Floyd blasting and the old hippies, like me, will be buying our weed from some young dude that likes floyde as much as we do and always will.... Live life to the fullest, it is the only one you get. Shine on.

@mynameisbille This song (album) is what inspired me to get a Cherry red '58 reissue maple neck stratocaster, I can confirm that these beautiful sounds are recreated many-a-thursday night in my living room.
First heard this track at Coventry Airshow in the '80's', pair of fournier rf4 gliders doing a ariel ballet to this tune, should have seen it, ever seen 30'000 people rooted to the spot?, went out and promptly brought their entire back catalogue, dave gilmours solo on this track is one of the best guitar solo's I have ever heard.
pure magic.... when i was younger i dreamed of being a pole dancer and dancing to this song, it would have been amazing, so seductive , but im older and all that is just a vision in my head......
@escaperoute2 I said when i was younger, many years ago... i have an amazing job working and managing my own section for the Macquarie Bank.. My aspirations were very high thanks, then and now. We all have a dream , i shared with people mine , if you don't like it perhaps you should get out a little more...
@DestroyerofSouls666 Your sweet, thanks. Its just this song, it really lets your mind drift away to where ever you want to be, it can take you anywhere, you can be what ever you want to be, thats what makes it so unique...
@luanaluana71 ---I totally, totally agree with you. I love The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, but I cherish Wish You Were Here as something more etheral and cosmic espcially Parts 1,2,3,4 etc. The instrumentals speak in soft voices to your mind, while the title track speaks warmly to your heart.
PS: As you have a love for sensual movement, you should listen to "Cosmic Dancer" by TRex. Beautiful, amazing song.
I just saw a performance of Gilmour playing this during one of his solo shows, and the ambient noise at the beginning was done by rubbing the rims of wine glasses! Does anyone know if that's how it's done on the album?
I keep thinking of something to write in this comment box, but I just can't express in words how simply amazing and beautiful this CONCERTO is. It's absolutely fantastic. You can't get a better eargasm out of anything else (save Hendrix).

We will always miss Syd, and this song is a true masterpiece dedicated to the incredible art he achieved. R.I.P. Roger Keith Barrett January 6, 1946-July 7, 2006
One of my favourite songs, as much art as it is music!
When people nowadays listen to "Bonkers" by Dizzee Rascal it is an insult to the actual artists who built the foundation from which their awful "music" derived from.
im 13. i made that right choice years ago to listen to rock and metal instead of shit music like rap. i'd much rather listen to something beauitful than music that rhymes about doing drugs, stealing, raping women etc.
Reminds me of my days sitting around doing nothing with my friends and all tripping out and smiling whilst we listened in silence. We all had our own dreams of the perfect enviroment in which we could listen to this without a care in the world. I thought we never found it. When really we found it all those years back. Pink Floyd forever
damien, grandson. i love you buddy. i wish with all my being that you wouldn't have left us. i miss you, kid. i love you, no matter what. no matter what.
the fact that you people are fighting over copyright laws that have just been made up out of thin air and pure nothingness means that your mind is not truly free

I am listening half of my life and every time its like a first time.

If somebody doesn't like this music, that means only one thing:
this person does not have a soul.
Shine on you Pink Floyd !

My old vinyl is long in storage. Hundreds of LPs--close to 1k, I suspect--which I'll likely never listen to again. Mostly, I'm okay with that.
But Floyd I'll take with me to my grave: on vinyl, CD, iPod ... hell, Pony Express if it comes back around to that.
Despite my bizarrely wide & varied musical tastes, only a few artists have intrinsically shaped the very core of my own humanity.
Floyd is one of them.

Rick Wright's keyboard work in the second half of Shine On (after Wish You Were Here) is freaking phenomenal. He was so under rated.

the fact that you people are fighting over copyright laws that have just been made up out of thin air and pure nothingness means that your mind is not truly free
