@dekdk11 DDR built the Berlin wall because of people escaping from DDR mostly because they where brainwashed by the Nazi government to fear Communism, and second because they had family in the West. Not just people from East escaped but even more people escaped from West to East to reunite with family and later it was mostly because they wanted a better life. Because West Germany wasn't the perfect country in this world and DDR had better options like free education and free housing

Sure the Wall and Inner German Border were a bad idea, but the DDR giving up it's soveriegty to the BRD was an even worse idea.
The DDR should have opened it's borders, with some controls, but allow travel through, and stayed it's own country.

@SMGJohn Isn't it funny? The U.S.S.R collapsed 20 years ago, and Communism was proven to be a failure, yet people still seem to think it is a good idea. With Captialism, you are free to make money, and to be succesful. However in A commy country, they control all aspects of life. @dekdk11 DDR built the Berlin wall because of people escaping from DDR mostly because they where brainwashed by the Nazi government to fear Communism, and second because they had family in the West. Not just people from East escaped but even more people escaped from West to East to reunite with family and later it was mostly because they wanted a better life. Because West Germany wasn't the perfect country in this world and DDR had better options like free education and free housing

I would say Capitalist countries have less freedom of speech then any Socialist nation that have ever existed.

@beatlesfan18361 East Germany fell in 1990 after the fall of the Berlin wall 1989. The territories of East Germany were added to West Germany. But the Unified Germany is still called "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (Federal Republic of Germany=West Germany)

The only bad thing was that they had to separate the people because they saw the west as not yet de-nazified. I don't condone totalitarianism, but the GDR was not nearly as bad as some make it out to be, in that respect.
