  • cuanta gente habla gansadas sin saber, minimamente informarse un poco no estaria mal

  • ridiculo

  • Thanks for posting, just have to love the contrabass sax, Braxton is a visionary and pioneer.

  • Now THIS is what killed jazz!!!

  • LMAO he uses a microphone......lol

  • @trumman hahahahahaha

  • great ! courageous, smart, free.

  • Thumbs up if you knew what this song was!;D

  • Woah, there HAS to be something wrong with this. And I love avant- gardw jazz but I like the type that has the same tempo and is good. This is just nonsense right here.

  • This is the only music you hear in hell

  • @WalterZarl ha! I agree!

  • wow..it's annoying..yet, it amazes me..lol try to listen to it carefully.. i love it!!!

  • imma killim

  • Remarkable false unisons !

  • Why the fuck do people think this is music??? pinchi gente pendeja!!!!

  • @MrKingofthepirates the same reason people read your stupid comments

  • @MrKingofthepirates You are an idiot

  • I just added this to my favs. So I can come to something when I think life couldn't get more freaking weird. It will be very therapeutic.

  • Anyone who judges Anthony Braxton by a 1 minute video of a live performance put on youtube, is dumber than any mentally handicapped goldfish.

  • what is this, seriously i try to listen to it again, i just dont see how its suposed to be fun, the audience is like "get us outta here!"

  • For some reason this reminds of that scene in Pulp Fiction where the guy says "Bring out the Gimp!" Only, instead of a guy wearing a rubber suit, a guy playing a gargantuan saxophone came out of the crypt. The saxophone that ate Duluth. Heavens!

  • Absolument fantastique! comme toujours!

  • you know how hard it is to piss people off musically nowadays, after all we've been exposed to. he must be doing something right.

  • Likes and dislikes running almost even. Ol' Anthony Braxton — still pushing people's buttons after all these years…

  • i heard bertwoldo was born barfing it on a roller coaster

  • :34 - :41 looks like he's literally making love to the sax

  • Linda melodia.

  • A to NAL

  • i couldnt tell if that was music or not...but i like the contrabass sax, when im rich and i need somewhere to put my money, ill make the investment hahahaha

  • ridiculous

Hey I saw Lee Konitz at that place! It was slightly different

  • ridiculous

  • idk, but that sounded so terble. Why is that even an instrument?

  • WHY is that an instrument?

  • FAIL

  • almost sounds like they DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!

  • I think I would run out the house and call 911 if I had a clothes dryer that sounded like that

  • only the musicians themselves like this music.. because there is a challenge but for the audience it's awful!!

  • fail

  • @videoasst

    LMAO! Can't deny that.

  • @yanisaxplayer finish your sentences.

  • thats just bad. no good.

  • Okay, I'm a legit saxophone player, and I see no reason for a contrabass saxophone. I want to hear someone play legit classical music on this instrument, and then maybe I'll be able to see a point in it's creation because this sounds like crap. Then again, it could be the player...

  • @IIIThreat There must be somebody that likes it! :~D Surely every instrument wasn't created specifically for its functionality within a given musical context?

  • Sure, the composition is very different and quite artistic, but the composer should've at least had the courtesy to write something that doesn't sound like the musical version of Spengbab.

  • W T F

  • wtf is this it makes no sense

  • If you're comparing this to your kids in grade school, you have no business teaching grade school.

  • Fascinating to see what all these infants and cretins playing with their feces have to say about art they couldn't possibly understand. Art is about context, and these sad clowns may never have the depth of understanding to appreciate anything beyond paintings of dogs playing poker. I am curious what has drawn all these damaged people to comment? Were they forced to watch this for some misguided therapy aimed at curing mediocrity?

  • what, would you prefer he played the blues or something predictable like that? And NO, your 3rd graders would be crushed to death trying to pick up that instrument. I'm glad you were never my teacher.

  • That thing is huge. I guess that makes sense, though - that thing weighs 45 pounds!

  • LOOK at the crown!

  • 3rd graders in my school can play way better that this! :(

  • That was awful! And it ain't the sax thats the problem, he just sucks, get a new musician and keep the sax, thats what I say!

  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

  • roflmao this isnt true art, this is fucking shit. hes a sun ra wannabe with a large obnoxious instument. just liste to Marcel W. Helland, atleast he does justice to this rare beast of an instrument.

  • Braxton isn't making true art here? I figured you'd compare him to some more conventional musician, but SUN Ra is just as strange. Have you heard Atlantis? Or his collaboration with John Cage?

  • @ShemTheSham oh indeed their counter rythems were quite unique

  • @mushroom692 it cause thats a very low instrument so thats how it sounds!!!

  • this is amazing. true art

  • tra eurt . gnizama si siht

  • a la merdi un instrumento muy feo... lo siento no le encuentro la gracia.. a ese sonido

  • shit!

  • I admire the creativity, but I dont love the sound. It kinda sounded like he was playing around with the sax more than it had emotion.

  • i have to put 5 because i love the contrabass but that man dint play well he just blow and tap a note

  • WTF that thing sounds horrible like a pregnant walrus jesusuchrist

  • Exactly. There's no denying the creativity. Just the woozy I can't believe I drank the whole bottle feeling expressed in music. But that's my opin-onion and like they say everybody's got one. World Sax Quartet has some different sounds too.

  • @TheMusikI oh yes yes they do! like the snap toe tapper ,they had on that 1st. album

  • I appreciate it because it's from the soul, and it challenges what many people think IS music. Yes, it is kind of weird, but I think that's the appeal.

  • It's true, authentic. No-one can argue about Braxton's intentions. If you have your ears tuned in to your heart, you can tell fake from truth in an instant. Whether you can understand where his authenticity is coming from is another question.

  • hate it sorry

  • What do you mean by:

    Beatnik

People who think they are intellectuals

    Path to nirvana

    Doesn't mean it's music

    ?

Please help me and Mr. Braxton understand why we like and play our music. Please explain what you mean by these mysterious phrases.

  • Try Schoenberg then.

  • This is like...a darker Version of Charles Mingus's "Moanin"...I love it

  • hahahahh good analogy. fuck free form jazz! XD

  • omg wtf ! thats sucks !!!! what they are doing in that place ! shit music

  • You are stupid. If you don't like this than get out of here!

  • 1/10000 of poeple like this music so shut up !

  • I guess im that one person haha. Improvising rocks. Thats what free form jazz basically is!

  • more like 1/10000000000000 people like this crap...

  • hated it

  • it's really funny, the ratings under this video are actually a meter of how visitors know Anthony's music. If it's the first time you listen to it you will press on a star; the more you have been exposed to his music the more stars you will press. Even in these things this guy is a genius.

  • This is the first time i've seen or heard of this guy but i can see the skill he has.

Admittedly some this sounds a bit...i cant think of a word which fits what i mean if i'm honest.

  • Yes its like radioactivity. The more you are exposed to it the more it fucks you up.

  • 3 shoes in a dryer

  • "this jazz sucks", huh? lmfao!! people and their fucking labels.

  • LMFAO

  • Yeh it sounds like realist stuff and pontilism.

  • ehh - a litle

  • Look at him dance as he honks away.

  • omg

  • this sucks bad but its funny. their faces are so serious

  • THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MESS

  • I. Braxton's compositions are connectable. Any or all of his compositions can be performed at the same time. Performers may insert parts or the entirety of one composition into another, or commingle parts from different compositions. II. Each instrumental part of his compositions is autonomous. III. All tempos are relative. IV. All volume dynamics are relative.

  • V. Some people are scam artists. VI. People still take them seriously. VII. You're one of them.

For some reason, everybody woke up one day and decided that art was no longer about skill and trade, but about expressing how different you are. I always thought that was vanity?

  • i was just trying to explain the abstractness of braxton, u fucking douche bag

  • wtf are you still going on about? you're going to pretend you can explain this kind of music? go ahead then lol

  • uhmmm.......hmmmmm...

  • If you think Anthony Braxton is the worst sax player you have never heard Kenny G. Soulles bastard.

Check out the Dave Brubeck Anthony Brampton album.

  • hahaha

    thank you

    im glad someone else agrees

  • He is pretty much the worst sax player I have ever heard. I bet his lungs are the size of kidney beans because I can barley hear him playing. (He might as well have 2 kidney beans for lungs anyway).

  • omg.

    omg.

IMHO that this performance is really cool, not to mention Braxtons abilities. I suppose you had never heard anything he did.

Hm, his version of countdown? Just supernatural.)

  • basura

  • You know, if you did a "....shreds" video of this, nobody would ever be able to tell if it's the real thing or the parody.

  • Too short! More!

  • form of free/experimental jazz ... improvisation that abandons any functional harmony

    some like it, most don't

  • Would that be considered Acid Jazz? ;- )

  • @superrailband NO. to qualify as acid jazz it would have to have pop elements.

  • @superrailband short answer, no.

  • i think this instrument is nasty, but the music is cool

  • agreed

  • es un pedo eso hijo de puta!

  • I don't really care for this type of music. It just sounds like random noise to me, but that is a pretty cool saxophone. I bet it would be really hard to play.

  • Wow....that sounded like a middle school band room while everyone is putting their insturments together and warming up.

  • @MilkBoyofAH Your comment was as original as your musical taste probably is.

  • I like the idea. I just think it didn't work. Which is OK - as this kind of music is all about risk. Some things will work and some won't. Generally, I like Braxton. I have his cd with Wold Eyes - which is about as far out as you can get - which I really like. This just didn't work for me.

  • It should bee free jazz but it sounds linke pure giberish... weird is that they have stands with sheet's...

  • It's not improvised, most likely, most of Braxton's stuff that I know of is pre-composed.

  • that was kinda weird but then again that my first time listening to a contrabass play together with other instuments

  • well i really like music and know alot about it but what was that? it sounded like he was playing at random

  • the gibberesh play of the sax!

  • Sorry I hate the background music but yea the contra bass was good

  • that sucked- woodwinds arent meant to be that low- you dont hear the notes, and they are useless- leave the low to the tuba

  • The crowd dont seem to be enjoying it much, they look upset.

  • It's not my kind of music...

  • ummmm tht waz pretty bad

  • that was pretty bad

  • i did not really like the background music, sorry, but i liked the contra bass!

  • Wow, crazy 12-tone shit.

This must have been dope live, a contrabass sax can shake walls.

  • As a Clarinet player who also plays some sax, I can understand the kind of work it takes to play an instrument. I myself don't like comtemperay

  • oops, hit send a little early.

I myself don't like contemporary music like, but to even be able to put air into an instrument like that is an achievement in itself. I music that has a uniform sound to it, but can go off on it's own sometimes.

While I don't care for the music in the video(It sounds like a bunch of people warming up on their own) I can respect his ability to play it.

  • is he drunk?

  • Nice acid trip!!!

  • LMAO he's moving his fingers and shaking his hips like he's doing the twist and I hear nothing besides this nasty death music!

  • I love jazz, classical, and just music in general. I play alto, tenor, and bari sax, but this just doesn't sound good. I think once people see a contrabass sax the go nuts, and overlook the fact that it sounds kinda unpleasantly low.

  • i think it sounds great but in the higher octaves it sounds more like a tuba

  • you know, I'm a professional sax player. I think this is garbage. I consider myself open minded, but it still sounds like crap.

  • as a "professional sax player" you should understand that a poor quality youtube clip doesnt really do the music justice.

also, lots of people are professional musicians.

  • This is literally the gayest crap i've ever heard. What kind of new-age/liberal-hippie piece of crap would listen to this? It's just like sushi- no one really likes it, they just tell themselves and everyone else that they do so they'll seem somehow deep and cosmopolitan. Art is so queer.

  • true, if you have to think about it, it must not be very good. that's why i prefer miley cyrus.

  • That is the Suckiest song I have ever heard, and don't pretend like you like it.....please

  • wao! Big size&beautiful sound

    by japanese

  • just no

  • I know, sounds like a Jr. high Band room

  • never heard worse music

  • I totally agree

  • Amen

  • anthony braxton is great. i know he composes using mathematical/maybe physical formules applied to the music. or he composed.

like he knows how the saxophone is gonna sound while playing that sounds and not atonal music at all.

  • kak song

  • Wow, I just love to listen to all genre's of music. Braxton is the sort of musician I would play to my GCSE/A level students to show them that there is more to music than Bach and Amy Winehouse! But everything and everyone that makes music has its place and I totally respect each opinion. I once taught a guy Dixie, he said all other music was crap! Then I played him the country scene from Berlioz symphony fantastique and watched him cry! I love this clip. I find the music inspiring. Cool.

  • i don't see how listening to stravinsky and composing music makes you an authority on what is good and what isn't. what makes anyone an authority on what is good? what is the criteria for judging a piece as good or not? does everyone AGREE on that criteria? if not, is it valid?

i think this is not one of braxtons BEST performances but it's still pretty good.

  • one last thing.

your youtube channel gives me a better idea of your taste in music.

    where's the stravinsky?

  • YES. saying "i listen to stravinsky and compose atonal classical music." does make you sound pretentious. why? because you think starting your comment with that makes your comment more valid that others.

why not give me some reason that this music is "not good" than i would understand your opinion as well as see that you have some knowledge about music.

I'm still pretty sure you never heard of braxton before clicking on this video. or you at least have never studied his work.

  • You are completely at fault for saying that that makes me sound pretentious. Yes, it does make my comment more valid. It's just like if a doctor says someone is sick and a lawyer says someone isn't sick. Who's opinion is more valid. Please, just grow up and respect different opinions. If you're going to discuss this please type using correct grammar as you said, "this is music for adults", so speak like one. I dislike this music because there is no substance.

  • see there is a difference between a doctor giving a clinical diagnosis on factual matters as opposed to someone giving their opinion on how substantial a piece of music is. you aren't comparing apples to apples here.

beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.

also, the thing that really came off as pretentious to me is "I listen to Stravinsky and compose atonal orchestral music. This is not good music. People like Stravinsky know how to write good atonal music, this is not good atonal music."

  • cont'd:

Ok, well I listen to stravinsky and compose music as well and i happen to find Anthony Braxton very engaging. There is no definitive "good atonal music". Pull your head out of your ass dude.

  • Stravinsky was completely opposed to atonal writing until Schoenberg (the originator of the twelve tone system) died. The thing is that in the 50s & 60s it was taboo within the intellectual composers scene to be writing anything that made use of traditional methods of composition. (To anyone who doesnt like Atonal music I say check out Webern) But basically lots of people have been experimenting with atonal music since the 20s. In Braxtons time people were doing everything including atonal jazz.

  • Love it. Just too short of a clip. Abstract jazz is the best!

  • Poor guy ran out of breath =\

  • what a stupid saxophone

  • what a stupid comment.

  • They're trying to be so "avant gard" that it ends up sounding like mindless shit! Where's the music?

  • they're not trying to be anything.

the music is right in front of you.

  • what the fuck was that?

that was NOT music! that was random notes and clacking of keys! it was absolutley TERRIBLE!

It makes me want to CRY!

YOU ARE TONE DEAF MY FRIEND!

  • go watch your backstreet boys or whatever then.

    this music is for adults.

  • no,no,gentleman..

IT's time to take this boy to the world of JAZZ..

  • I'm an adult, that's not music, that's rubish

  • No, not true. I listen to Stravinsky and compose atonal orchestral music. This is not good music. People like Stravinsky know how to write good atonal music, this is not good atonal music.

  • what the hell is this crap?

  • crap? that was pretty good, u try and play one of those

  • This is utterly amazing :D
