The United States is not the only country that committed war crimes in the Korean War. In fact every nation involved did. South and North Korea both committed some heinous acts. Although the war ended with a truce, this war was a failure for the UN's first conflict considering the advantage they had with firepower and 20 nation coalition. The Chinese lacked supplies and firepower, but they had numerical advantage. If the PLA had an airforce, they would've routed the UN into the sea. Also, half the PLA died of cold and starvation.

As USA did not use the weapon of MASS DESTRUCTION on China, today the very progressive China is able to HELP USA in the present recession with great amount of money. China now is very different from that with Mao's leadership. Mao has made great mistakes that had set China years behind most countries. Today the people in China are able to travel abroad as tourists & students. They have a better standard of living & education.

I agree whole heartedly. China has grown in ways that could never be imagined back in the days of Mao. My comment was geared toward the foolishness of MacArthur at the time. MacArthur (at that time) cared little for his troops and much for his name in the headlines as the great man he felt himself to be.
Even Mao became wasteful of chinese lives (that he claimed to identify with) after numerous warnings from General Peng that further attacks would be wastful of the lives of the troops.

If China is still having Mao as the leader, China would not be today, when its people are able to travel abroad as tourists & as students. China started to progress well & getting a better living for its people, was when Deng Xiao Ping took over the leadership. Otherwise China is still backward & far behind others. Now the Awakening & Ascending Dragon is able to venture into space. The evil Japs who had cruelly massacred thousands of innocent Chinese, will NOT DARE to bully the Chinese again.

I do agree with you that Mao had done something good for China, by able to unite all of China under one government.
At that time China was weak, poor & chaotic after the invasion of the Japs. Secondly he was able to sweep away all the powerful imperialistic, colonialistic & undesirable elements out of China. Otherwise China would be broken up into pieces. Unfortunately, he made disastrous mistakes by having the "Cultural Revolution" & the "Great Leap Forward" movements later on.

World History has proven that No body & No country in the world can openly claim to be the "Master Race" or "Master Nation" to bully or control Other People & Other Nations. I agree, there is no "master race, or master nation". I think history shows that.
Military might is still a big issue for many countries in the world and will remain so for many years. Sometimes we are not as civilized as we think we are and need the military to sort things out. I'd be curious as to your opinions on the recent incidents involving the riots in western China. I tend to believe the Chinese news media. Any thoughts?

China is like a SCHOOL & its leadership is like the school PRINCIPAL that could be changed all the time, but the SCHOOL is always there. Its previous PRINCIPALs at different times got some additional classrooms. The last PRINCIPAL has to take care of all the classrooms including the additional ones. It is right for the PRINCIPAL to punish anybody who are naughty, misbehave or commit crimes in any of the classrooms and most likely some OUTSIDERs are out to create more troubles there!

LOL, Very diplomatically stated. Yes, I agree. I would even go further and say the grievances of the rioters could never account for the murdering of so many innocent people. To me it was barbaric and an outrage. I also thought the 'PRINCIPLES" did a fairly good job of calming a highly explosive situation.
Any thoughts on Iran? I am also following the protests there since the recent election. Twitter is an interesting source for news there. I don't twitter, just follow the conversations.

In my opinion, it is very unlikely that the "Awakening & Ascending Dragon" is the same as the "Rising Sun". China & its people have undergone so much sorrow, hardship & bitter experience of the cruelty & brutality of the Jap invaders that it has now awakened & started in improving itself in all aspects, especially in defence. In the late 1800s during Qing dynasty, China was poor & backward that the Japs seized that great opportunity & started to bully & harassed China most of the time.

Since 1937, Japs started invasion of China & other Asian countries. The cruel & brutal Jap soldiers threw babies up & bayonet them as they fell downward & some babies had their eyes gorged out, pregnant women raped & their womb being cut open & left to die in pain? Japan has a isolated, small nation, and warrior mentality. Japanese cannot get along well with other people besides themselves. Therefore, they often take extreme and stubborn approaches. Today Japanese are still selfish, arrogant and always do not admit & deny their evil acts of the past. Worst is that recently they organised SEX TOURs to some poor countries in S.E. Asia & reined the young girls there just to enjoy themselves. It was in the TV News. @Dav1dZMan My comments were in context with the person to whom I was talking. I did not say Mao was a nice guy, and yes he caused over seventy million deaths and cared little for the people of China. My point was that he united China as it hadn't been for hundreds of years. Prior to his arrival China was a splintered fuedal society. It was his place in history and the uniting of China that makes him a historic figure. The deaths of 70 million of his people also put him in the record books.
