People really gave great answers that wouldn't have been possible if they didn't feel safe in some degree of anonymity. I am doing everything I can to respect the privacy of this information.
Are you asking me to look up your answer? Should I refuse on principle?
Actually, the answer you gave is not important. I am more interested in the definitions/understandings you can share here in the YT discourse.
Hi Snowfeet. It is interesting how their aren't as many females who are atheists on youtube. Although just one topic of interest doesn't have to be a youtube subject for me.
Thank you for the efforts involved in this project. It was a great idea.
So why females tend to have less proclivity to deny the existence of deity? Too timid in a sense of yearning companionship of some sort, whether it's family, spouse, or a supernatural source? Strong, cogent inclination to spirituality which usually gets confused with religion? Or the survey queries from the religion/nonreligion point of view or "atheism" vs. believers?
Progression of man:
Religious -> atheism -> spirituality -> agnosticism -> ignosticism
Very well, since my questions were ignored, is there a way the data collected be shared among enthusiasts? Somehow... In the future... Or do I need to do more begging? I swear, I am not Hovind's secretary.
Don't take it badly, your questions haven't been ignored. I thought you were just brainstorming here. There aren't answers that would fit in fewer than 500 characters for these questions. This is exactly the type of thing that inspired the survey, and which we're all chatting about. No begging needed. More info will be released as I can compile it in a way that protects every participant's privacy.
Oi! It's great to be heard again, Steven. I've missed you all!
You know, I've always struggled with crappy sound quality from my webcam. I'd do well to sit inside a cardboard box when recording, but then the lighting would be a problem...
It's just nice to hear a girl with a thought-provoking opinion for a change. Seems they most often expect you to think while they just compliment your insight. I hate that. Maybe I just meet the wrong girls.
If I had to guess, I would say that there are more men on the net with no social lives whatsoever; I refuse to believe that there are just less female atheists.
Bill Maher proposed the idea that women are likely become religious after child-bearing; I suppose that this is also possible.
I have a wildly speculative, hopelessly uninformed theory about one possible reason for the disproportionate M:F atheist ratio.
Generally, girls are academically superior to boys (iirc, maths may be the one exception). It may balance out a little at 3rd level but in their formative years, we know that girls are better at absorbing vast amounts of information on almost every subject. (ctd..)
So, does it not stand to reason that religious indoctrination would have a much greater, longer-lasting effect on girls than on boys? Just a thought. I could be way off.
That's IT! TOTALLY excessive blinking! Couldn't hear what you were saying as my brain became confused. I've warned you and warned you about the eyes but OH NO, you didn't listen did you? You are SO reported, to, er, somebody!
As to why female atheists may have a lower profile on YT, I suspect that one of the reasons may be that the communication style in these discussions can be quite adversarial. I think fewer women than men are comfortable interacting like this.
I think that is a valid hypothesis, and could be part of the answer. Statistically, there are fewer women atheists counted in the general population, though, too.
Hi. I did use some statistical methods for determining whether sex was significantly correlated to religious identity. The test (Fisher's exact test plus a Bayesian version) cam up inconclusive. That is, the hypothesis that there is no correlation could not be rejected at any meaningful significance level.
It could be that my version of the dataset was too old and that you've later received enough data to address this. Is that so? If not, and I've got the whole dataset, is it okay if I make a video of my own? If so, what other correlations are of interest?
Hello trondreitan. There is more data now, but my uneducated reading also found no significant gender correlations. I will get you the newest figures, if you like, and you are welcome to make a video. I'd be very interested to see it.
PS: There are quite a lot of columns here. Testing everything against everything can be a bit too much. What other dependencies do you think I should look for?
I realised that there are way too many columns to be easily useful when I sat down with the data. The survey was obviously written by someone (*heh*) who had never done any analysis of that kind before. I'll send you a new spread sheet.
grew yer hair a biy hmm? not bad! prefer it shorter though! :D

It's really nice to see you back.
"I feel like a pawn of the universe" was the answer I gave to the question about "Purpose"
Now you can find out If I answered "Feminist" or not.

freetaught 4 years ago
After child-bearing, huh? You know, the survey didn't ask whether a person had any kids. That would have been a good thing to ask.
I did a bit of research and found that all atheist groups in general tend to have far fewer women members. Oh so much to talk about...

yay - I'm specific! So where do we go from here? Lets fire it up!

Hopefully we can all help each other learn something.
