Part of my love for this song comes from the brilliant use of the American Indian style chanting / mourning near the end. Check it from 2:50 for 30 seconds or so. BOC always seemed to infuse their songs with something different. Legends.
@49ersfan4446 and your team kicked ass today by the way!!!!!!!!!!! i am a steelers fan by the way and they were tebowed last week!!!!!!!!! goddamn it!!!!!!!
Most Hell's Angel's and biker's ever when I saw them in '85 in Sacramento. They are and surely were a very underated band. But that's it, you're a fan of them or not.
24 years after its release, all three of my kids, ages 18, 11, and 7, rate this their favorite album of all time. Their MP3 players are full of BÖC songs from my collection and my oldest has inherited all my BÖC vinyl. She is introducing a whole new group to the awesomeness that is BÖC.
I keep it alive. Spectre's is by far the best album they did.If I stay in the desert, this will be my song, going away, on my last ride into the unknown.
The AoF/Spectres B.O.C. has this subtle eeriness and ghostly vibe that makes them a interesting and parallel contrast to the grim, sinister, claustrophobic sounds produced on their opening three records during the 'black & white' era. Also I feel AoF/Spectres have a more west-coast California. Seattle WA feel to them whereas their debut feels like the urban Eastern seaboard, T&M feels like the south/mid-west and Secret Treaties feels like the Northern areas and Canada.
I seen BOC about 3 times--last concert was mirrors. The best song they played that night was me 262. THe y had mirrors everywhere and then they hit them spot lights. WOW
Now this is the Boc i know and love!!! There best work right here. Albert and Joe were so important to that sound we know and love!!! I miss those guys a great deal.
This song is absolutely sublime. I get chills at the end when Joe sings "I Need You..." I am a huge BOC fan and I know all their songs. If I had to pick my all-time favorite BOC tune, DVN is it, Fireworks is similar and equally brilliant.
This song represents everything that was brilliant about this band. So my question to Eric & Don is this: why did you abandon this formula? You woulda made history boys.
I'm glad they're underrated, because I get sick of hearing people listening to music that I like; I don't need anyone else wearing out the music I listen to. BOC is seriously my favorite band of all time.
Most underrated band ever - no one ever listens to anything by them except Don't Fear the Reaper and Godzilla (and maybe Burning for You and Astronomy). It's a massive shame, considering how awesome they are.
I agree. I am a huge BOC fan and although many fans listen to more than the songs you've mentioned, FM radio won't play anything else! The N.Y. classic rock station is pathetic: They ONLY play The Reaper and Burnin' For you. You'll never hear anything from Tyranny and Mutation or Secret Treaties; not even on their "deep album cuts"
Nope, it's Albert Bouchard. Lanier didn't have any vocal credits on this album except for the demo of 'please hold' which can be heard on the remaster.
Ok, I'll set the scene. Its 1982 you're a senior in high school and you just broke up with your girlfriend of 2 years. You're not stalking her but you just drove past her house for the 10th time with this song blaring on your Kraco. You're drinking a 6 pack of Michelob light wondering how to get her back.......
Alberts Brain Surgeons version I think is even better than this-all acoustic and he really sings his ass off. It also has a couple chords from Stairway to Heaven leading to a break. Both versions are amazing.
From 71-78 or so, none better. Completely owned the "thinking man's metal" niche, and did it effortlessly. Then, sadly, I think lost their way. Certainly not the same band at all without Albert Bouchard.
I met Joe Bouchard back in 1999 or 2000 at a sci-fi show in N.J. His claim to fame he admitted was entirely writing Astronomy however I feel his brother Al was the better of the songwriting brothers. Al Bouchard was missed when he was kicked out of the band in 1981.
listen to Golden age of leather, Power Underneath Despair, and The siege and investiture of Baron Von frankensteins catle at Weiserria. Then listen to Fireworks, and This song. Extreme Metal to Extreme Melodic Like that!

So glad to hear this. There are so many reasons to give up on humanity, and however silly it sounds, yours is an example of why not to.
How did this band not achieve the greatness it deserves?
