Eventhough Bill Frawley was portrayed as a cranky, curmudgeony type of guy on the I love Lucy and My 3 sons shows, he was still a highly likeable man.
@mikebigslick yes but according to people who actually knew Lucy Viv and Bill they all say the same thing it was a love hate relationship like any brother and sister !
a very bitter man toward vivian vance. let's let the truth be told. he made her life miserable on the set. just ask anyone with knowledge. dont put him up on a pedestal like this please.
@jaimedance3 yes, it's well documented. She thought he was WAY to old for the part and didn't want to play the roll of his wife. Frawley even overheard her saying this at the set while she was talking to a friend and he NEVER forgave her for it. He acted like he gave a hoot when she won the Emmy. Just watch his reaction, didn't seem that genuine to me.

@gbop63 Oh shut up you butthurt fanboy you obviously don't know the entire story. It was Viv who was bitter towards him, and because of that they never got along.
@gbop63 Fred didn't make ethel's life miserable, they both didn't like each other and Vivian vance said she didn't like fred because he was old (she wanted a young and handsome husband on the I Love Lucy show) and she wanted to be glamourous/beautiful all the time....besides he was a good actor and a funny old guy on the show. I just wish their was more videos of him and about his life.

Everyone on "I Love Lucy" was brilliant, but the character of Fred Mertz was always my favorite. Just the way he said things still makes me laugh :)
I liked Bill Frawley on "My Three Sons", too.

Wonderful film I enjoyed watching. William Frawley was a great man and a fantastic
actor. I loved him on The I Love Lucy Show. And on My Three Sons he was one of a
kind. He had a lot of talents I will always remember him.
