What a horrible waste of Canadian lives. Why r / were we even there?? I feel sorry for the fallen and their families. The government should be ashamed as I am ashamed my tax dollars put /sent these proud and courageous people to their death. What an absolute waste of lives and money. Let the warmongering US and their bankers deal with this crap.
Things like this make me proud to share the very long border with Canada. Rest in Peace to all of those soldiers that have lost their lives, and ridden that 100 mile stretch. Highway of Heroes. Enough has been said.
God bless our sons of Canada, god bless our fearless partner, the United States, God bless our beloved Commonweatlth of the UK....America and Britain, I would go to war with you anyday!!!!, may we always stand united against those who would oppress freedom, to Robert Mclaren of the HAST and PER, you made us proud and you died well....PARATUS!!!!!!!
@polar91123 As an American, I would say the same. I have never felt so lucky to be allies with one of the best countries out there! You guys have stuck with us through thick and thin, even when some of us treated you guys like shit. If I saw a Canadian soldier, I would salute them in a heartbeat, just as if they were American Soldiers. I even bought this song so some money would be donated. Thank you, from an American to the best damn Allies out there, CANADA!!! HOOAH!
as a canadian soldier and being a soldier who has seen hes frend run over a road side bomb in afgan in a lav this brought a tear to my eye and images that i never want to see again. going through basic training together in cadets together. makes me proud to see this on you tube and on tv and being in myself. as we are a strong nation and makes me proud to do what i do to stand beside our american brothers in arms and to keep our continent safe so our government can rule miss u man
We really started to notice the casualties up in Canada, early on when 4 of our men were killed by USAF zoomies hopped up on military grade methamphentimes and who thought muzzle flashes at 15,000 ft. were SAM launches and disobeyed their AWACS controllers and bombed our guys while they were on a nightime training exercise.
Most americans don't realize that the journalist, Tibbetts is a Canadian nad was driving down the highway from Montreal to Oshawa to see his parents when he stumbled upon this out-pouring.
dont get me wrong, i support the troops with every drop of blood i have in me, but just because i stand by the troops, doesnt mean im going to stand by the reason they invaded or occupied for so long, all for oil, militarys are no longer governemt run militaries but corperate militaries
Thank you NBC ! Living in Vancouver and watching the Major American Networks coming out of Seattle on TV was to say frustrating at times, Espec during the debate and start of the Iraq war.. Canada was being bashed as a country of the unwilling including from the US goverment,, While our brave young men abd woman were serving and dying in Afganistan,Not including the injured and the ones that lost thier minds,God bless both of our Countries
Fighting meaningless wars and killing children for the Illuminati elite, and then be thrown away like garbage, that's what it means to join the US army.
As if the story was done in Cobourg! Great story, the blessing continues along the Highway of Heroes with more and more people every time when the fallen return to home soil.
As a very common bumper sticker in Canada states: "If you don't stand behind our soldiers, feel free to stand in front of them." We may not support our nation's reasons for sending our brave young men and women into harm's way, but dammit, they all know they have a job to do, and we should all feel immensely proud of the fearless and selfless manner in which they all serve, no matter how popular the action is. The young people who serve in our name, whether they are killed or not, are heroes!
@allegropizzicato I have nothing but respect for our troops but I don't believe in war and will never support the cause of war except for in self-defense.
@regine2001 peace, really, you actually believe that, alot of my friends are full service and p.p.c.l.i, every one of them dont know why they are there, if you had actually gone and served, you would see clear as day that the u.s government lied through there teeth, and canadians bought into it, when will citizens wake up
@mazdarx7gx hahah corrupt, hes one of afgans biggest drug lords, karsai, or however you spell his name, is a known drug lord, his brother was a war lord who got murdered by a rival faction, this is americas biggest ally out there aside from saudi....
This is a quote in an email from my father who flew a bomber for the R.A.F. during World War Two.
"Personally I think that a little too much attention is paid to these repatriations as they call them. Maybe it's because I remember an era when the casualties were in the thousands and thousands, and there was no such thing as repatriation, they were buried where they fell."
War is ugly, and brave men and women die. Every soldier who comes back in a coffin was someone's son, daughter, brother, sister, mother, father, friend, ect. It doesn't matter if they were Canadian or American, "Thank" those fallen heroes, whether, it's saluting them on the "Highway of Heroes", when they pass by, or, making sure the service to their country was honored...they gave their life for their country, give them a hero's welcome home...and a chance for us to "THANK THEM"!
@itachi155 That is really simplistic. You do realize those people who give you a negative impression are a minority getting lots of airtime by the media to stir up ratings. It just goes to show how much a President represents his country to the rest of the world. Especially a country which has as much influence as the US.
@itachi155 Lol, only about 70% of America is white. What happened in 1991? Everyone just lost all of their values? Ever been to America? Lazy would hardly apply. Americans are extremely overworked. How are we brainwashed? In the era of American prosperity, be were, as you said, scared to shit of communism. Judging foreign policy is obviously acceptable, but judging the people of a nation without having been there is like judging the taste of a food you have never ate.
@itachi155 I remain baffled that the kind of hatred spewed by those ignorant assholes of the Westboro Baptist Church (As no Baptist convention recognizes them, how can they be Baptists?) is not considered hate speech. As a Vietnam vet, USAF, 13 TAS, I like to think we were somehow fighting for freedom, but when I see them picketing the funerals of dead soldiers I want to puke. Thanks Canada for showing us how to honor our troops, and not cause more grief to their families. Westboro, go to hell
Ive got nothing against the veterans - although I think the reason we are in the War is wrong, and I believe that a policy of nationbuilding that the western nations seem to have embraced overseas will lead only to more anger towards the West, not less. I also find it slightly unnerving that children are being brought up to embrace the war as a good guy vs. bad guy deal, when clearly it is more complex than that. I dont see militarism as a virtue, even if respect for those who served is.
@jethrodassam On behalf of many Canadians, thank you for the kind words. We are blessed to have a long standing closeness with one another. The blessing goes both ways.
@jethrodassam Every now and then you show up and give us the greatest of compliments. So even when you get mad I know what you really think...sorry ..but thank you.
I Mcpl. Hartgerink from the 2313 salh royal Canadian Army Cadet Core salute to those that have fallin in afghanistan and other wars before that. I have lost my cousin do to road side bombing so i know how miss Cushman feels after what happened
@TheLdroyal Hell, I'm your rank, but In the Air Caqdet Version. (FCpl [Flight Corporal]) I thank you for those words. I plan on switching over to 1913 Ontarion Regiment Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, but I am in deep thought about it as I am the "drill Corporal" and the "Army Guy" of my Squdron. anyways, I want to say again, Thank you, and I thank your cousin for serving. God Bless your family.
A boy that I went to school with (Cpl. Zach McCormack) died in December 2009 in Afghanistan. Dozens of people, mostly strangers, spent the whole night tying yellow ribbons to all of the trees and posts that lined the road all the way from the airport to the church where his funeral was to be held. I went to the funeral and the most beautiful thing was that all along the back wall, DOZENS of firefighters, police officers etc. were lined up to pay respect to their fallen comrades. It was so moving

All net proceeds raised through this event will go to Support the Troops, which will use these funds through participating military charities, in support of Canada’s soldiers and their families.
Even though I'm not a Canadian, I must say that this brought tears to my eyes. It's just beautiful that all of those people were saluting there fallen. I wish us Americans also would do that, becuase I would deffenitly go and salute. So to all of you Canadians who saluted your fallen then and now, I salute you.
No matter if they supported the war politically or not, they joined the army to protect their family, their friends, the young, the old, the rich people, the poor people, the nationalists, the immigrants, the pazifists that would never fight, and the ones that cannot fight, those who love them and even those who hate them. And all the time they knew it could end with injury or death.
For Two and a half years now i've been watching this video a couple times a month, to remind myself of the true sacrifice these men and woman make for our country. As well as reminding myself that we do infact respect these men and woman, and we do remember them. Every time i see that woman come on screen i cry. Coming from a military Family, (my father, brother, and most of my cousins in the Canadian Military) I have alot of love and respect for these people. These are the heros of our nation!
When i was in air cadets on a training course at CFB Trenton, one of our fallen hero's was passing through. That moment and entire base went quiet and still.
@baker51516 This is an extremely nice comment to see, especially with all of the fighting between Canadians and Americans on youtube that, as a result, do little more than make their own countries look bad. As it states on the Peace Arch. "May these gates never be closed"
@shewolf51 Exactly. And for the record every American I know loves Canada as a brother just like I do. I think that the worst of society shows up on the internet to spread their skewed logic sometimes but I truly don't know one American that wouldn't stand up and defend Canada if the need arose. I am about to enter Air Force Officer Training School and when I graduate I will be making a trip up to the Highway of Heroes to pay my respects. (my relatives live in Millbrook, ON)
You know what's something brilliant and frustrating about this video, that both countries (U.S. and Canada) allow us to voice are opinions freely. I would ask keep them respectful. I cry everytime I see this. This is a woman who lost her son. It effects me deeply, and I could not be more proud to be canadian, and regardless of how the U.S. honors (yes I left out the u) their fallen. Each show great respect and love. We both should be proud, and hope we don't need to do this again.
This shows compassion and respect, if only everyone thought like that, to show our Armed Forces.
I'm from Britain, and we have something similar, type in Wootten Bassett, it as the same as this video shows people care for the sacrifice's our Armed Forces take everyday
God bless all the Royal Canadian Dragoons we've lost (13 as of now) and all of the fallen heroes of the Canadian, American, British and remaining ISAF forces. Bold and Swift! -RCD Corporal wounded in Afghanistan Task Force 3-09 ROTO 8. WE will never forget you brothers and sisters and we will meet again.
The Highway of Heros in Canada is unique for the fact that all of our fallen soldiers first arrive at the Canadian Forces Base in Trenton and then must make the 100+ mile journey to the coroners offices in Toronto before being released to the families.
For anyone that is interested, Canada keeps an updated page on its Fallen Soldiers here.
I might go for this after June. I don't want to be a doctor, lawyer, rcmp, etc... this is what I want to do. be a part of something important, if i have the chance to fight for Canada I will know I will be doing something to be proud of. No matter what country I travel to Canada will alway be in my blood.
@AceClo Your comment was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing the story of your cousin with us. May he rest as a hero. We will never forget the US and Canadian sacrfices.
@AceClo As a Canadian I truly do appreciate your words. It's nice to hear an American fell that way about Canada. As I feel our friendship is valuable as well.
Bloody great video....I served as a civilian in Kandahar twice and let me tell you... we're trying to liberate a bronze age people from fundamentalist tyranny, trying to bring education, economy and options to their daily lives. Honestly, we're wasting our time...Al Quaida murder and sharia rules the day...they will never change...so sad. Sad for them and for us.
This made me cry. God bless our Canadian soldiers and God bless the American as well. I salute each and every fallen hero. May the angels hold you close.
Canada and USA are one ! Always have been always will be ! Fighting wars and terrorists together ! You mess with Canada, you mess with the States and vice versa.
mrtommypops i agree, i felt emotional and i feel the same way, im a proud canadian and i would like to also say to the person who said that the fighting in afganastan is about oil, your an idiot and an ass... canadians are peacekeepers and dont simply start wars for oil, the USA wouldnt do that either (i hope they wouldnt at least)
@Alientank your an idiot Afganistan has absolutely no oil it has some aluminum tin and maybe some copper but zero oil... It's truly sad that our brave soldiers died just so uneducated idiots like you can make stupid comments like yours. Next time before you make a stupid comment like that why dont you do some research and insure that your facts are correct.
I am so proud that a major US TV network would take the time to pay tribute to our Canadian soldiers. As a canadian I sometimes feel that americans dont know much about our forces and its too bad. Anyway Candadian forces may not be a large force but they are well trained and we have some of the toughest soldiers in the world who are proud to fight side by side in afghanistan with our american cousins.......This video made me very emotional.....God Bless Canada and USA...
Everyone bickering on here should stop and think for a second before they post. This is about DEAD SOLDIERS. Have some respect. This is not the forum for airing your ill informed grievances about the US or Canada.
@NovaScotiaNewfie fire fighters have a para military system they do have a rank stucture and do salute each other during ceremonies or parades and in this case they were showing respect for the fallen soldiers
as an American watching this video brought tears to my eyes... its such a moving display of respect for the fallen... i wish the new would cover something like that here, all they seem to film is a crazy church group protesting the funerals of our fallen soldiers.... truthfully i didnt think much of canada before, but now as a country i have nothing but respect....
none of us want war - we hate violence. but we'll alays stand against evil regardless of cost. to those who do what I cannot, to those that die protecting the innocent, I give great thanks from my heart. know that you are all loved and respected.
I am also an immigrant as a child and Canada IS my country and my home.We are unique, peaceful and civil in our dealings with others. We are some of the most polite and easy going and curteous people in this world. Our True North Strong and FREE,free because Canadians made it so.I am glad we do not hide our dead away..we need to welcome them home and pray this ends soon!!! cheers from BC
@dillman492 I know this is a month after the moment when you posted this, but I felt like this should be said. Over here in my area of California, we also always run reports of fallen soldiers from our area in the news. Maybe each state and the counties therein are mostly doing these honors locally. If you think about it, doing it this way makes it more personal, doesn't it? :) And I don't mean to demean the way you Canadians did it here, either. It's extremely touching. <3 USA & Canada!
I became Canadian in July 2009, I am originally from Iraq (Muslim too). I am soo proud to be Canadian, I am a grown 27 yr old man and the tears are streaming down my face watching this. I LOVE Canada and I LOVE our Heroes, I never say I am Iraqi-Canadian, I always say I am Canadian-Iraqi. God be my witness if anyone dares to take an inch of this country I will leave my family and fight for it until I die.
@ib983 Reading this made me proud, I am a born Canadian and my family has lived in this great country for many generations. Knowing that the country that i call home can mean so much to someone like yourself and knowing that the earth, water and sky that make up Canada means just as much to me as it does to you makes me proud to live here and proud to have people like you come here to this great land. Thank you for your post.
@Aetheilas Thank you very much, I am very proud to share it with every single one of you. GREAT LAND & GREAT People so stand tall and hold your heads high.
@ib983 You honour this country - please always insist that we honour you. Work hard and never let anyone hold you back from your dreams in your new country. My roots go back 400 years in Canada. I will measure our success by your success!
@pcorrigan1 Thank you very much. I am currently doing my Ph. D. in Atmospheric Chemistry at York University in Toronto and work part time at Environment Canada. I have a year left for me to finish. I did not even dream this big 15 years ago let alone realizing it. This is why Canada and Canadians are great, you can be anything you want and more.
in canada every man or woman that gets killed in war or on a mission all of our news stations on t.v. and even our radios have like a 5 min story on the deceased soldier i just don't see how the U.S. can't even put in an effort to make it public that they lost a member of there army overseas.
@dillman492 It really depends on where you live in the United States. In the area that I live in Kentucky, we always have reports on fallen soldiers from our area in the news.
Sad War is Sad, We have to honor these men and women for allowing us to sleep at night while they battle unforgettable evil. God Bless Canadian Forces,ISAF,Nato and all Allied military units in the world, They are truly the heroes of our lifetime
@ratherBEaREDNECK For what, stating the truth? Why do you think the US is in Iraq? There were no nuclear weapons found by the UN, so why did they still go to Iraq? For oil.
@juzu4me I support our troops 150%. Like someone mentioned, they don't write policy or make decisions at the Pentagon. But I think it is evident to most people that Iraq's Oil was a huge factor in that particular war. It has been shown that gov't of USA was aware they would find no WoMD. The things that go on in Washington would completely gobsmack most people. Its all backroom deals and self-serving agendas. Gov't for the people by the people is now a catchphrase unfortunately.
What a horrible waste of Canadian lives. Why r / were we even there?? I feel sorry for the fallen and their families. The government should be ashamed as I am ashamed my tax dollars put /sent these proud and courageous people to their death. What an absolute waste of lives and money. No. What do I think of the US?
Well, I think in then 1940-1990s they were a kind people and through some great inventions and systems became the richest country in the world.
Americans then were good people except a handful of old people who were:
Still racist to Japanese, Germans, Vietnamese and to a lesser extent Italians
Scared to shit of communism.
US now I think is MOSTLY arrogant, lazy brainwashed people who can't admit their country is a mess and hate any other race

@knuckleder, to date, the number is sadly much higher. The Canadian deathtoll in Afghanistan presently sits at 156 deaths.

Thanks.

@baker51516 This is an extremely nice comment to see, especially with all of the fighting between Canadians and Americans on youtube that, as a result, do little more than make their own countries look bad. As it states on the Peace Arch. "May these gates never be closed"
shewolf51 3 months ago
@shewolf51 Exactly. And for the record every American I know loves Canada as a brother just like I do. I think that the worst of society shows up on the internet to spread their skewed logic sometimes but I truly don't know one American that wouldn't stand up and defend Canada if the need arose. I am about to enter Air Force Officer Training School and when I graduate I will be making a trip up to the Highway of Heroes to pay my respects. (my relatives live in Millbrook, ON)
baker51516 3 months ago 4
You know what's something brilliant and frustrating about this video, that both countries (U.S. and Canada) allow us to voice are opinions freely. I would ask keep them respectful. I cry everytime I see this. This is a woman who lost her son. It effects me deeply, and I could not be more proud to be canadian, and regardless of how the U.S. honors (yes I left out the u) their fallen. Each show great respect and love. We both should be proud, and hope we don't need to do this again.

Do firefighters actually salute in terms of doing it like military for rank or purely a way to show tribute to the fallen?
NovaScotiaNewfie 11 months ago
@NovaScotiaNewfie fire fighters have a para military system they do have a rank stucture and do salute each other during ceremonies or parades and in this case they were showing respect for the fallen soldiers
