I was told the song was about the death of their producer Gene Eugene who had been diagnosed with cancer, but since I never actually did any research on it, I didn't realize Gene died after the recording from what was at the time an unknown cause. So, now that I don't know the real story, my apologies. Now I kind of wonder about my original thought, that it had something to do with Scott Siletta leaving and starting a secular band (known as Fanmail).

I used love Plankeye (one of the 1st bands I ever saw in concert) and loss track of them when Scott left the band. Then I saw this video on a Tooth & Nail video comp and couldn't believe it. Even though the style is much different than old Plankeye, I think it surpasses in maturity. This song fits my life perfectly-watching friends come and go. I hate saying goodbye.

The main reason for my original interpretation is that everyone who enters the elevator doesn't seem to acknowledge the presence of the the 2 guys.........meaning they're literally in another world (the people, that is). The roof scene did throw me off originally, but I think I get it now!

this is not about the band breaking up. the cd came out in 1999, they broke up in late 2002 with a last tour and a reunion show in 2003.

Actually the orginal Plankeye did break up in 1998, this is not the original band. Eric Balmer was the guitar player and Scott Silleta was the lead vocals so the song could be about the original band breaking up.

This album is not a typical Plank Eye album. Eric does ok with the mellow vocals, but not too well with the faster tunes. Scott Stileta was awesome on the wild stuff. Listen to BC and there is a big difference. The music is still good as a whole. The familiar guitar work is a nice remnant.

Most disappointing that this band never became big. So many bands copy this style today and people like it. I don't get it.

The song is actually about the breaking up their band which happened the year before (1998 I think). This explains why there are only two band members in the video. The elevator is a metaphor of one's life, with people coming, sharing, and then leaving...
