  • WOW! Alan Wilder!

  • basic.. but so effective

  • Which artist share the same song title as a b-side(clue: the french name of his former band is "les visages" )?

  • Bad

  • Tora! Tora! Tora!

  • HOLY SHIT! Fletch is ACTUALLY playing!

  • @dieselust That was back then! ... . But today I feel a little bit different. I would like to see Alan joining the group. Maybe - the old style - would come more to daylight again. But today's Dave is a great musician himself and writes better songs than Martin.... Everything changes!

  • @JesseDark101 WHAAAAAAAA?!!! mart is the best songwriter i've ever heard of, don't gave is great, but mart is better. anyway, that's my opinion.

  • Depeche Mode without Vince Clark, is not Depeche mode...!

  • @Oliver3863 are u dreaming?! vince has long been gone and DM is still around. DM without Vince is still DM

  • Nice pants, Dave! (and Fletch!)

  • "In honor of the best wave of my life so far, rode a 6'8" to the sand from the outside TODAY thanks to Toro at Blue Surf Sanctuary"

    - a source close to Veronica Grey in Costa Rica

  • Excellent performance!

  • deMode was best with Vine and Alan... Vince had created the best of the dance able deMode tracks and Alan really helped to bring out the best in the later years.. (he after all was the only classically trained out of all of the members).. Now I ask of you, would the combination of Gore, Gahan, Wilder, Fletcher and Clarke be the ultimate version of the band? your thoughts!

  • who didn't like them????

and why the haters are here?

    still got my best !!!

    /thumbs up I mean!

  • Well, they did kinda seem like nerds. (:

But there's nothing wrong with that.. nerds are awesome! <3

  • one of my fav tracks .... especially with wilder

  • bring back alan wilder.

  • Agreed (not their best moment)...

  • not their greatest moment..(spoken as a true HCfan)

  • Best song from their debut album. Strong vocal by Dave.

  • Phew! Thought the tape was gonna get tangled up in my computer then lol

  • @TheVikaDoll Thank you.

  • 3:26 <3

  • dope

  • perfect

  • I think this is the recording on the B side of the Get the Balance Right 12" (US release).

  • @PackerGreg

I have got it, bought in 1983...!

  • I have got it, bought in 1983.

  • their very best period!

  • As nerdy as they appear here and with such a lack of fashion sense (haha) I still love these early records. I adore every Depeche era with a passion. Each era mens something and each record only lead on to the next one.

Although I will say that I am MADY hot for Alan and I think he is very sexy here! So young......yum.

  • Btw, Dave looks so funny here :) like an 80s student ! ;) but his deep voice is so incredible !

  • @allalongwatchtower Well, considering the fact that this was the 80's and they were teenagers I must say that makes perfect sense. But being ancient myself, I must say that I think he looks great. Adorable!

  • @Ragnhild71 :) I didn't mean anything wrong about his looks. It's just so different from what he looked like later (let's say Devotional period) and definitely now :). But I do love it :). And the tune is a masterpiece !

  • I wish to hear TTT live... Why don't they ever play that during their tours? It's such a massive tune !

  • early depeche the best

  • @bilgueits No, their best period.

  • @sastal : clearly !

  • @sastal nah, that's a year later!

  • @sastal i'd say violator/sofad was their best period

  • Comment removed

  • @sastal era cuando lo vestia su mama, jajaj dulzura

  • @sastal

Oh come on. Their music is still great

  • @M0SSl Whoever said that it isn't?

  • people are people i like! dm foreveh!

  • buenisimo gracias por compartir

    nice

  • depeche mode sont les meilleurs !!!!!!

  • era un lindo pendejo que cantaba espectacular.....grande dave

  • Cantaba, y sigue cantando espectacular.

  • People say that he is the glue that has kept the band together all of these years, like a kind of manager or coach. He takes care of the business side of things as well. This is what I hear.

  • Thanx for posting this ~ it's like a long lost relic!!! Omg ..

Can't read most of this Spanish... but from your words, I'm guessing that you're talking about Andy Fletcher? If so, you're on point... The band divides itself unusually regarding responsibility... ultimately, what led to the loss of Alan Wilder. They've never been the same without him... Thank goodness for Recoil!

  • @sastal Out of all the people in Depeche Mode or were in Depeche Mode.I know only one person does give a damn about the band and thats totally Martin Gore.Alan stuck around for the moolah, knocked up Hep while he was still married to Jeri and is just a total slime.Fletch is just an adorable bum hahaha hes a genius.Dave is a great singer and Vince pulled out because he didnt like how the bands direction was heading.

  • @Emochildmcr Maybe Martin gives more about the band than Alan. But one thing is for sure: for the music and quality assurance Alan gave A LOT MORE than Martin ever did. And that is what both Alan and Martin always said!!

  • me gusto, es mas yo cree una version muy similar por hay del 85 puesto que yo tenia un grupo con similar estilo se llamaba el pech moo y mi melodia era toto toto toto

  • 0:13 Dave to Fletch...

-hey Flach are you really playing....???

    ;p;p

  • love it...and yes dave was off his rocker for sure!!!

  • :3 nårh <3

  • Quel souvenir! souvenir,souvenir!!!

  • You can see that Dave was off his tits. LOL!!!!

  • What an atmosphere!!!

  • a big inspiration to me !

  • guys, don't use the real drum please for a while

  • Jedna z moich ulubionych piosenek. <3

  • My God, I love Dave's early dancing. He looks like he's having the time of his life here!

  • I couldn't agree more...Dave is moving on this clip! Early Depeche Rules!

  • It's just the best, isn't it! I love seeing him dance on stage now but the way he danced back then was the best! Yay! Go Dave!

  • He dances the same in some recent footage, but 80's era Depeche Mode was the best!

  • funny,eh?

  • this music is very very very great...

    thank you DEPECHE MODE

  • Good old Synthpop.Oldschool atmoshpere

  • wow, so long ago! Hey, why doesn't Dave wear the plaid shirts anymore! lol Imagine if they still used the reel-to-reel for the drums instead of a real drummer today? hehe

  • I really do not enjoy the real drum on many of the live songs. Some of them will do, but most were made for the synths, in my opinion. "Question of Time" is a great example. It just sounded flat with a traditional drum.

  • ouchiewiehietiechiewhie!?!

  • i happen to love dm

  • aha me too :)

  • love can not be hate

  • Dave looks so little<3

  • This sound is absolutely great! :o

    DM ^^

  • Yaaaaaaaay!!! its here! x

  • Ufff! Waaao!

    I love ElectroMusic

  • hEY, I'm truly grateful for this posting. I really thought it was too obscure to have been posted by somebody. You've made the day of an old dEPECHE mODE fan sASSTAL.

    tHANK-yOU

  • Your comment made me happy. Thank you. I love their obscure stuff too much, too. Peace and love,

  • ok you can tell that this is a video

    but its a good song

  • Wow!! Fletch used to play at the beginning not just claping!! LOL!!

  • wait wait:

Just Can't Get Enough, Any Second Now, Photographic, New Life

    jumm

  • My thoughts, exactly.

  • Any Second Now is nice, and Photographic's cool too.

  • depeche depeche .....grandi ...hanno segnato un epoca!!!!!!!

  • I must agree with Zenon2006...Everything seemed to be more fluid when Alan Wilder was with the group. Now most of the "live" songs are pre-programmed and pre-recorded to sound like as if he was still there...A very sad departure...

  • mmm..pelvic thrusting.

  • they will always be better with Alan

  • he had nothing to do with the making of this song nor any song played in the A broken frame tour.

he was just live keyboardist...not even really part of the band yet.

  • As is A Broken Frame were their highest point in their career..

  • @Zenon2006 And Vince.

  • The Jap lead pilot Fuchida radioed Tora Tora Tora! or "Tiger Tiger Tiger" to the entire japanese navy at the moment he realized complete surprise had been secured over Pearl Harbor. This was what he was to radio if absolute complete surprise occurred....which it did. But then Midway happened and the rest is history.

Oh yeah, DM is he best band ever!

  • this clip shows how far they came in just a few short years. they made a lot of leaps and even though i see the quirkiness of this clip, i still wish I had a time machine. lol

  • I was the American - but now I'm turning Japanese.

  • Not as wack as your face.

And you favourited the Back Street Bitches... uhh... Bwahahahahahahahahaha

  • tor! tora! tora! was the warcry of the japanese soldiers in second worldwar

  • Tora in Greek means Now... Love the song! What does it mean in english?

  • Tora means tiger in Japanese.

  • I don't know what it means in english, but "Tora Tora Tora" was the key word of Japan for Pearl Harbour's attack. Bye

  • 虎 tora is Japanese for "tiger" but in this case, "to" is the initial syllable of the Japanese word 突撃 totsugeki, meaning "charge" or "attack", and "ra" is the initial syllable of 雷撃 raigeki, meaning "torpedo attack

  • i once read that in an interview that Dave said the lyrics in the DM songs don't any meaning....so its up to you what the meaning of Tora Tora is, as long as yer enjoy it....:)

  • oh HELL NO I know dave is NOT wearing a farmer ted plaid shirt!

  • A Jupiter 8! Alan Wilder got this earlier than I thought.

  • More good use of the Moog Source on this one..

  • super chingon

  • GREAT song! Dave's so cute when dancing, they rock! Tora tora tora!!! Thanks for posting!

  • You have GOT to check out the Dominatrix mix of this song ! ! !

  • Has Doominatrix remixed "Tora! Tora! Tora!"? Is this remix available on YouTube?

  • I think you haven't discovered the wonders of Dominatrix yet. It's a Depeche Mode experience on a whole new level, it's just out of this world. Ok, look up the user dominatrix1

and play some of this videos. Then head over to dmremix dot be (Belgian site, youtube filters out urls, hence the "dot be"). You'll see tons of mixes there, pick the ones from Dominatrix, they're the best!

  • I found this remix. It really kicks ass. Dominatrix will be the best remixer 4ever.

  • lol, dave's dancing like a spaz.

  • Martin Gore - the words, Dave Gahan - the voice, Alan Wilder - the sound. Any questions?

  • Yes. And Fletch?

  • I've been wondering what exactly Fletch does in the band. Most of the time he is busy waving his arms around and playing a note or two on his keyboard. Whether or not it's plugged in, now that's a different story.

  • Fletch is like the glue that keeps them together for many years (especially Ultra period). He deals with the financial side of the things. Is he dealing with that now? I don't know.

  • Alright, let's settle this Fletch-Should-Have-Left-Instead-Of-Alan discussion RIGHT NOW! In my opinion, Fletch admits that he's not keen in contributing on the band's music. Although, without him, I'm pretty sure, all of DM would go financially broke and God knows where all the money will go bcos anyone can have a share on the royalties(just like the Beatles). I know a lot of us still miss Alan but...it happens. Who knows? He MIGHT change his mind.

  • Now, we know Alan said that he'll never work with DM ever again. Yeah, same thing that Geri Halliwell said about the Spice Girls. I observed that Recoil isn't getting as great as DM. You might never know, he might suddenly thought "Maybe I should come back and work with that DRUNKEN ONE again." Besides, he let Martin contribute on Recoil project.

  • You forgot to add, Fletch-the humor. ;)

  • Alan Wildersiz Depeche Mode olmaz

  • Olur! Dave Gahansiz olmazdi ama! :D

  • curti bem o depeche nas baladas. (q.i. do gueto)

  • Aaaah...! Back in the OLD days, when Fletch actually played something live (well, not all the time...)

  • Well... do you think that Fletch has ever played anything at any time???

I guess he doesn't know which key is a "C"!

I'll never understand his function in the group!

  • sort ur life out pal.wot the fuck can u play?apart from with urself.IDIOT!Seandepeche

  • Sorry, I don't understand!

  • that just says it all,doesnt it??Seandepeche.

  • yeah andy sux0r big time !

  • that shirt is not the best look for Dave. They look more like they just got out of class for this gig.

  • That look is from the "Broken Frame" era. They hate it a lot... That's why they haven't played anything from that album in their last concerts.

  • Yes, but anyway, I do love their second album "A broken frame".

I cant't understand how a band can have such a bad feeling on his past...

  • Apart from Leave In Silence.

  • They played "Leave in Silence" in Paris.

  • Lol

  • I like Fletch's moves here

  • we need alan back to depeche mode

  • fletcher looks like he's banging someone lol!

  • hahaha Bang it Fletch!

  • Fletch is ALIVE ! XD

  • yezzzzzzzzzir!

  • AAOUUUUUU! I have never seen fletch move like THAT! sexxxy!

  • Alan with a Jupiter 8. Awesome.

  • I prefer version with Vince Clarke.

  • emulator 2 yyyeeaAA

  • nope

  • My favorite "Speak & Spell" track; nice one!

  • fletch dosnt do much live... he should have quit instead of alan..... fletch is daves cheerleader.

  • depeche mode without fletch isn't depeche mode

  • depeche mode without alan too

  • Correct !! But he never left the band, ninkanpoop..!!!

  • who? Fletch left the band (or at least the tour during Devotional or the Erotic portion of that tour) to have a nervous breakdown. He was replaced for some of that time. so I guess thats close to leaving the band.

  • Fletch stayed in the band b/c he's Martin's best friend and b/c he handled all the band's finances/merchandising at that time. Alan was actually Dave's off-stage emotional support/cheerleader back then. Dave's always been hideously insecure vis-à-vis Martin, but has thankfully appeared to have gotten over most of it.

  • are you a shrink? you seem to be reading a little bit too much into the situation. I doubt Dave ever needed a cheerleader and I doubt Alan would be much of one anyways...and "hideously" insecure? well, whatever he usually looks pretty secure to me other than around the Singles Tour when he was getting his head back on straight.

  • Best song from their first album. The ones by Vince were just embarrassing.

  • This and "Big Muff," another fave of mine, are the only ones not by Vince on the album. Personally, I love all of S&S, as well as Yazoo's "Upstairs..." Erasure is another story.

  • Don't worry about the clothes. This art and good art at that. My daughter was their biggest fan.. When I see their work I remember her. It was like they were a part of her. Wonderful!

  • Dave was really wild on stage from that ancient times! In comparison to the live vids from 1981 at least, where he barely moves. And how i miss Alan...

  • wow is Fletch actually playing the keyboard?!

  • I think I watched it on Video Music or what was MTV 25 years ago...really incredible...Fletch who played...bass Synth...thanks to you who broadcasted it!

  • Lmao! :52 Wow, he looks like a tired toad xDD

  • the good old days before peter gordeno where fletch had to play keyboard^^

  • all the dancing here is nuts.. but forget the dances.. how about this fashion craze they had going on? how ugly!

  • It wasnt ugly then .. remember in 20 years from now what YOUR wearing is gonna look real bad . probably does already.

  • lol - Well, im sorry but their clothes from 1982-1983 are just horrible. im not going to lie about it. I'm a huge DM fan and this era of their music is excellent, beyond excellent, but i just don't care for the clothes they wore during this time period. I don't think I'm the only person who thinks this either. Ask around. DM look better during the other eras. You mean to tell me that you LIKE and/or prefer this style of clothing on them??

  • Well you have a point. Some of the stuff is ok , but im just suggesting that it may have been perceived as good fashion back then.

  • oh I know.. I'm aware it was good fashion at the time..

I knew it was popular back then.. I was just saying that it didn't suit them very well, I thought. or rather after seeing all the eras of dM, that this one is the most unpleasant, lol, as far as the fasion goes :)

  • Yeah actually looking back at the videos now I would have to agree with you , maybe they were trying to 'push the envelope'

  • Yes that's true, but realize that 1987 was 20 years ago now. Depeche Mode frankly looked pretty awesome in 1987. They don't look horrible here, but Dave and Fletch look like they just got dragged in from their office job.

  • Daves is quite silly in this video. But look at Andrew's dance....As if he would fuck someone! Looooool

  • What is his face like at 0:52? Haha!

  • Nice-old days, good work...
