@dieselust That was back then! ... . But today I feel a little bit different. I would like to see Alan joining the group. Maybe - the old style - would come more to daylight again. But today's Dave is a great musician himself and writes better songs than Martin.... Everything changes!
deMode was best with Vine and Alan... Vince had created the best of the dance able deMode tracks and Alan really helped to bring out the best in the later years.. (he after all was the only classically trained out of all of the members).. Now I ask of you, would the combination of Gore, Gahan, Wilder, Fletcher and Clarke be the ultimate version of the band? your thoughts!
As nerdy as they appear here and with such a lack of fashion sense (haha) I still love these early records. I adore every Depeche era with a passion. Each era mens something and each record only lead on to the next one.
Although I will say that I am MADY hot for Alan and I think he is very sexy here! So young......yum.
@allalongwatchtower Well, considering the fact that this was the 80's and they were teenagers I must say that makes perfect sense. But being ancient myself, I must say that I think he looks great. Adorable!
@Ragnhild71 :) I didn't mean anything wrong about his looks. It's just so different from what he looked like later (let's say Devotional period) and definitely now :). But I do love it :). And the tune is a masterpiece !
People say that he is the glue that has kept the band together all of these years, like a kind of manager or coach. He takes care of the business side of things as well. This is what I hear.
Thanx for posting this ~ it's like a long lost relic!!! Omg ..
Can't read most of this Spanish... but from your words, I'm guessing that you're talking about Andy Fletcher? If so, you're on point... The band divides itself unusually regarding responsibility... ultimately, what led to the loss of Alan Wilder. They've never been the same without him... Thank goodness for Recoil!
@sastal Out of all the people in Depeche Mode or were in Depeche Mode.I know only one person does give a damn about the band and thats totally Martin Gore.Alan stuck around for the moolah, knocked up Hep while he was still married to Jeri and is just a total slime.Fletch is just an adorable bum hahaha hes a genius.Dave is a great singer and Vince pulled out because he didnt like how the bands direction was heading.
@Emochildmcr Maybe Martin gives more about the band than Alan. But one thing is for sure: for the music and quality assurance Alan gave A LOT MORE than Martin ever did. And that is what both Alan and Martin always said!!
me gusto, es mas yo cree una version muy similar por hay del 85 puesto que yo tenia un grupo con similar estilo se llamaba el pech moo y mi melodia era toto toto toto
wow, so long ago! Hey, why doesn't Dave wear the plaid shirts anymore! lol Imagine if they still used the reel-to-reel for the drums instead of a real drummer today? hehe
I really do not enjoy the real drum on many of the live songs. Some of them will do, but most were made for the synths, in my opinion. "Question of Time" is a great example. It just sounded flat with a traditional drum.
hEY, I'm truly grateful for this posting. I really thought it was too obscure to have been posted by somebody. You've made the day of an old dEPECHE mODE fan sASSTAL.

this clip shows how far they came in just a few short years. they made a lot of leaps and even though i see the quirkiness of this clip, i still wish I had a time machine. lol
虎 tora is Japanese for "tiger" but in this case, "to" is the initial syllable of the Japanese word 突撃 totsugeki, meaning "charge" or "attack", and "ra" is the initial syllable of 雷撃 raigeki, meaning "torpedo attack
i once read that in an interview that Dave said the lyrics in the DM songs don't any meaning....so its up to you what the meaning of Tora Tora is, as long as yer enjoy it....:)

I've been wondering what exactly Fletch does in the band. Most of the time he is busy waving his arms around and playing a note or two on his keyboard. Whether or not it's plugged in, now that's a different story.
Fletch is like the glue that keeps them together for many years (especially Ultra period). He deals with the financial side of the things. Is he dealing with that now? I don't know.
Alright, let's settle this Fletch-Should-Have-Left-Instead-Of-Alan discussion RIGHT NOW! In my opinion, Fletch admits that he's not keen in contributing on the band's music. Although, without him, I'm pretty sure, all of DM would go financially broke and God knows where all the money will go bcos anyone can have a share on the royalties(just like the Beatles). I know a lot of us still miss Alan but...it happens. Who knows? He MIGHT change his mind.
Now, we know Alan said that he'll never work with DM ever again. Yeah, same thing that Geri Halliwell said about the Spice Girls. I observed that Recoil isn't getting as great as DM. You might never know, he might suddenly thought "Maybe I should come back and work with that DRUNKEN ONE again." Besides, he let Martin contribute on Recoil project.
who? Fletch left the band (or at least the tour during Devotional or the Erotic portion of that tour) to have a nervous breakdown. He was replaced for some of that time. so I guess thats close to leaving the band.
Fletch stayed in the band b/c he's Martin's best friend and b/c he handled all the band's finances/merchandising at that time. Alan was actually Dave's off-stage emotional support/cheerleader back then. Dave's always been hideously insecure vis-à-vis Martin, but has thankfully appeared to have gotten over most of it.
are you a shrink? you seem to be reading a little bit too much into the situation. I doubt Dave ever needed a cheerleader and I doubt Alan would be much of one anyways...and "hideously" insecure? well, whatever he usually looks pretty secure to me other than around the Singles Tour when he was getting his head back on straight.
This and "Big Muff," another fave of mine, are the only ones not by Vince on the album. Personally, I love all of S&S, as well as Yazoo's "Upstairs..." Erasure is another story.
Don't worry about the clothes. This art and good art at that. My daughter was their biggest fan.. When I see their work I remember her. It was like they were a part of her. Wonderful!
Dave was really wild on stage from that ancient times! In comparison to the live vids from 1981 at least, where he barely moves. And how i miss Alan...
I think I watched it on Video Music or what was MTV 25 years ago...really incredible...Fletch who played...bass Synth...thanks to you who broadcasted it!
lol - Well, im sorry but their clothes from 1982-1983 are just horrible. im not going to lie about it. I'm a huge DM fan and this era of their music is excellent, beyond excellent, but i just don't care for the clothes they wore during this time period. I don't think I'm the only person who thinks this either. Ask around. DM look better during the other eras. You mean to tell me that you LIKE and/or prefer this style of clothing on them??
oh I know.. I'm aware it was good fashion at the time..
I knew it was popular back then.. I was just saying that it didn't suit them very well, I thought. or rather after seeing all the eras of dM, that this one is the most unpleasant, lol, as far as the fasion goes :)
Yes that's true, but realize that 1987 was 20 years ago now. Depeche Mode frankly looked pretty awesome in 1987. They don't look horrible here, but Dave and Fletch look like they just got dragged in from their office job.

lol - Well, im sorry but their clothes from 1982-1983 are just horrible. im not going to lie about it.

Well you have a point. Some of the stuff is ok , but im just suggesting that it may have been perceived as good fashion back then.

oh I know.. I'm aware it was good fashion at the time..
I knew it was popular back then.. I was just saying that it didn't suit them very well, I thought. or rather after seeing all the eras of dM, that this one is the most unpleasant, lol, as far as the fasion goes :)

Yeah actually looking back at the videos now I would have to agree with you , maybe they were trying to 'push the envelope'

Yes that's true, but realize that 1987 was 20 years ago now. Depeche Mode frankly looked pretty awesome in 1987. They don't look horrible here, but Dave and Fletch look like they just got dragged in from their office job.
