  • 2jz is a monster but so is the lsx. they both have the potential of making disgusting power.

  • NOO i wanna see this thing run

  • music always ruins these kinds of videos.

  • Hey was this at HIN Austin Tx on April 19th of this year?! If not then there is another Camaro just like this with a 2JZ swap, im j/w if it is the same one, I got pics of the one that was there and looks exactly like it.

  • WTH???!!! Thats...different...IN good way though!!! lol its kinda like the 67 fastback stang from tokyo drift with the RB23DET. Hay what kind or Gages are those??? I want some =)

  • Awesome project, takes balls to go in that route. Car looks killer, keep pushing the envelope :)

  • That poor Camaro.

  • this may be cool and all, but that kinda stuff is for ricers. not muscle cars! especialy a first gen camaro!

  • Actually, I would not consider it 'being a ricer' a 2JZ would not have been my first choice - but, in a sense it is the essence of 'hot rodding'....

  • i myself am building a pro-touring 72 camaro with chevy's new inline 6, very similar to the 2jz. im doing this for the purpose of making the front suspension the maximum width possible. also light as possible.

  • you gotta point there but i still wouldnt do it.

  • Hahah man, people like mykle here always crack me up. Horsepower and torque know no brand loyalty, ANYTHING can be ridiculously fast with enough time and money invested into it. So many car noobs on Youtube that don't understand this. If any of you have ever brought your car to a meet or race, that is precisely why people always ask you what modifications you have done. Any car, even a Hyundai Accent, could be faster than either Supra or Camaro, if it's owner had the money and will to do it.

  • well you see i understand this stuff very well. i own a couple muscle cars, i even own a little rice burner and i know every thing about them cus i build them. i go to car shows and see all these creations and things like this all the time. name brands are good and all but, and im sure most will agree with me, when you have a muscle car like a 69 camaro its all about stayin true to the name. v8 power.

  • Not enough cam.

Sure, it's a six, but that shouldn't stop it from sounding utterly angry. Which this one doesn't do.

Not that bad of an idea, really. 2JZ is certainly lighter than a 350. Well, a Duttweiler aluminum-block Buick V6 with a pair of turbos would be nicer and lighter, but meh.

  • "2JZ is certainly lighter than a 350."

Actually they aren't. Toyota's 2JZ-GTE weights over 700 lbs. fully dressed, compared to just under 600 for an old iron-block, iron headed 350. As for the LS1, try 495 pounds fully dressed.

Swapping something like an LS1 into a Japanese car makes sense, since they have more horsepower potential and are lighter to boot than pretty much any Japanese engine.

But this swap just doesn't make any sense: You're only reducing the car's potential.

  • An iron-block 350 is over 500 dry.

There's no way in hell a JZ weighs that much.

  • I'm afraid it does, RotaryJunkie. The 2JZ-GTE is 573 pounds without the gearbox, 746 pounds with the Getrag six speed (dressed engine weight always includes the gearbox). The dressed engine weight of an LS1 is about 250 pounds lower.

Remember not to make the rookie mistake of assuming that displacement is proportional to mass. A 2JZ might only displace 3.0 liters, but it's an overhead cam inline six, meaning it's both long and tall, compared to the compact design of a pushrod V8.

  • No way does this swap reduce the potential of the car. Do you know much about 2jz motors? Its always nice to be different also.

  • Yes, I do. I know they're bulky, heavy, have peaky "dyno queen" torque curves, and are generally only special to misinformed individuals that think that 1,000 horsepower with turbochargers is something new.

Why not swap a Honda F20C into a Toyota Supra? It wouldn't make any sense whatsoever, but it would be OMG DIFFERENT!

  • Obviously you are one of those guys who knows it all, so trying to make an arguement against you is just going to continue your rant of meaningless knowlege. Just because you wouldnt do it doesnt mean its wrong.

  • There is no such thing as "meaningless knowledge."

And I never said it was wrong, I said it doesn't make any sense. You want to do a swap like this? Be my guest. You want to chop your own ears off? Go right ahead...it would be about as logical.

  • Yes, actually there is, and its what you spout off at the mouth about. Once again, just because you wouldnt do it does not mean its wrong. You should do some research on 2jz motors before you spout of about them. Not to saound like a fan boy, but it is one of the greatest motors ever built.

  • It's generally a good idea to read posts before you respond. Once again, I didn't say it was wrong, I said it was nonsensical. If it doesn't sink in this time, I won't bother repeating it again.

And now I haven't *researched* the 2JZ? I've just given the dressed engine weight, discussed the powerband, and rattled off displacement and common power levels, but the only thing you can come back with is "one of the greatest motors ever built"?

Do you, in fact, know anything about cars at all?

  • All I hear from you is blah blah blah. Why dont you open your eyes and appreciate somethine different. 'Nonsensical' isnt a word. Obviously you dont get the fact that the owner wanted to be different. Haha at your comparison of 2jz to a honda motor. Seriously open your eyes this car would eat a mojority of lsx swapped first gens in about any form of motorsports. Trust I know plenty about cars including f bodies and supras.

  • Yeah...that's what you hear when you don't listen.

"Nonsensical isn't a word" - ROFL! Isn't it? The dictionary is your friend, you know. I'll guarantee you'll find it in there.

I perfectly understand that the owner wanted to be different...but sometimes being different is just being stupid.

A Lingenfelter-built LS with only 1 bar of boost makes the same horsepower this car does, with more torque in a broader curve. It's lighter and more compact, to boot.

  • Pardon me. Your arguements are nonsensical. Great info about an LSX, but seriously who cares. Hooray, it will make more power at lower boost. No shit its at least 2x the displacement. I already understand everything you are saying. You seriously need to move on and get over the fucking car. Its not yours so quit whining about what engine it has. When you have the money to build a car on this level do what the fuck you want with it. Until then stfu and get over the fact you think you are right.

  • It will make more power at lower boost...SO why bother going to the cost and expense of LOWERING the car's displacement? For what purpose? Just to be different? If he's so worried about being different, he could have saved a ton of money by just wearing his pants on his head.

There's nothing to "get over." The car doesn't really bother me, I just consider it weird and questioned the builder's judgement. You're the one who got all butthurt over my analysis.

I am right. YOU get over it.

  • A 350 (sorry, more common than an LS and cheaper) weighs about 500lbs for the long block + intake alone. Add accessories and the transmission and you will break 800lbs.

I realize perfectly well that displacement means very little to overall weight, but your flyweight LS example isn't an iron block. The JZ is. Hardly a fair comparison if I've seen one.

However, after some research... I've found that the JZ is meant as a dyno queen (will be continued below, running out of characters)

  • No aluminum blocks are offered by the aftermarket that I've seen. Every Supra you will ever see will be built for power. Period.

It's back-assward, because an aluminum block JZ motor would be lighter than most any V8 and make plenty of power, especially for a handling application.

So now, yes, I have less respect for this swap. Bring on the turbo Buick V6s with aluminum blocks in Supras! :D

  • RotaryJunkie: I'm not sure where you're getting these weights from. The dry weight of a 350 long block is only about 300-350 lbs. Dressed weight (with gearbox) comes in at around 600 pounds.

Now I suppose the old W-head big blocks (348/409) might get over 800 pounds...their dry weight (sans gearbox) was 665 pounds.

  • Addendum...apparently my sources are conflicting. There's no way a GM gearbox weighs 300 pounds. I'll research the matter further.

  • You are going to spend money to swap a motor either way. I can gaurantee for the Ling. LSX you are going to pay multiple times the cost of a built 2jz. Haha again with this your 'right' bullshit. Get real. Its pretty obvious you are bothered by the swap, because all your posts are about how he shouldve put a v8 and its better yadda yadda yeehaw. Go back to your camEro forums.

  • "LSX you are going to pay multiple times the cost of a built 2jz."

There are kits to swap an LS1 into a 1st gen Camaro (they aren't that different from the iron SBC these came with). The 2JZ, on the other hand, would require extensive fab work.

I made one post about how a V8 would have made more sense, and you basically went apeshit with your closed-minded fanboy horseshit. Sadly, my past experience with Supra fans online has confirmed that most of them are as ill-informed as your are.

  • You have to be one of the dumber people I have had the displeasure of communicating with on youtube. I like how you partially quote my comment to make yourself sound intelligent. You are the close minded one. I am an all around car fan. I love everything from Camaros to Supras. Plus I have put more hands on work into both LSX motors and 2jz than you have read on the internet. All your posts are about how this swap is dumb. You are the only dumb thing about this video.

  • "OMG ur stoopid and bad because ur bad and

stoopid! U disagree with me, n that makes u stoopid! I do engines works! Im more smarty then u r!"

I'm sorry, nickoudumho, but could you clarify? I'm not fluent in Rain Man.

I'm hoping what you said was some sort of legitimate rebuttal to my statements about this swap, perhaps to start a proper discourse on 2JZ swaps. Do tell if it is.

Furthermore, who are you, anyway? I don't recognize your screenname for anywhere in this discussion.

  • We get it, you obviously have more internet knowledge than anyone can fathom. You are an ignorant ass fan boy and just because YOUR dumb ass wouldnt do something does not make it a bad idea. You are obviously an internet wizard that talks a lot of shit and does nothing in the real world. You are one close minded fuck. Keep up the good work you dumb shit.

  • I don't have more knowledge than anyone can fathom, only more knowledge than YOU can fathom. Then again, that's not saying much.

"because YOUR dumb ass wouldnt do something does not make it a bad idea."

Are you going to give a legitimate reason to perform this swap, or keep repeating that same moronic mantra over and over? I've rebuffed it at least five times, I'm not going to do it again.

And the term is "closed minded," not "close minded." Go get your fucking G.E.D. already.

  • Please, you have some serious issues. Haha, which prestigious university had the privelege of your attendance, since you seem to be on your intellectual pedestal? You obviously suffer from mullet syndrome.''If it aint V8 than eet dont belong in that cAmero.'' The 2jz is not some honda motor, it is disputably THE best ''japanese'' motor ever produced. Check the facts. Actually it is close minded, you should check up on that also. Try again.

  • Being smarter than you doesn't put me on an intellectual pedestal, since being smarter than you isn't really an accomplishment. Basically anyone who doesn't have to wear a helmet in public is smarter than you. Sad but true.

Mullet? Way to date yourself. What the fuck is this, 1993? It must be, considering you're worshipping an engine introduced then.

If you can't wrap your head around my arguments, then just shut the fuck up already. I'm getting tired of repeating myself.

  • And no, I'm afraid the term is "closed minded," which is the opposite of "open minded." Retard.

  • i wanna put a 2jz-gte in a 1st gen corvette!! hahah yes

  • what kinda gauges are those?? look sweet

  • soulless camaro

  • Nice thats pretty sweet although it without a doubt dropped the value of the car. Not trying to sound like a hater but those cars are actually worth alot all original with macning #s block. Any way another option if ones looking to get rediculous hp numbers is chevys LSX block which surpases the 2JZ potential at 2500hp. Either way u put it that car is sic.

  • Crazy setup, but WHY would you play Rap on the video when the only thing people would want to hear is the engine at start-up, idle, and being driven through the RPM range? Nobody gives a #hit about the music on a video about a car project.

    People have no brains.

  • if he pulled up to me i would laugh

  • sounds like shit.

  • SWEET!! anything can be achieved with money!!

  • i love japanese cars, and engines...but seriously..WTF where you thinking with this? The is the worst idea evar. You should have put an LS9 or something in there. Supra engines do not belong in old american muscle cars

  • ur dumb amen fukin hater

  • Sounds like shit compared to a nice v8 setup. NO doubt it's fast though.

  • YO!! met these guys at HIN in Austin, TX.... car is sicker in person... what you wont notice in the video is that it has a nice lopey idle thanks to the 280 cams.

  • what r u usig for engine mngmt?

  • Nice setup, but your video sucks.

  • well, it's a different project, but i must agree: it's very very well done :)

    congrats :D
