That makes me homesick. I grew up in the East San Gabriel Valley, and my grandparents lived in Diamond Bar. I remember many drives down that freeway.
That said, have you ever driven down Brea Canyon Road through the the Canyon? It's full of interesting sights. My grandfather and father usually took Brea Canyon Rd. rather than the 57. That said, they moved into the area BEFORE the 57 was built.
Yup, being that I lived near Diamond Bar, that was the way I would get home from the Hooters Restaurant in Anaheim which was basically on Katella off the 57 Freeway.
I've watched a few of these... nicely done! Reminds me of the night 30 years ago on the 91 when I made it from Tyler to Beach Blvd in 17 minutes flat!!
Couple of ?s. Are these filmed close to the day u posted them? This 1 says April 16,-10. Also since you're on the road a lot & I used to be a big LA to OC commuter 4 over 10 yrs, did u notice the skies in this vid? Criss crossing lines? I noticed this start about 5 years ago in So Cal. I understand certain vectors get sprayed 4 a while & then they move. Tests show the ingredients in the fallout of these aerosols is very toxic. Most don't seem to notice. Did, or do u notice the mucked up skies?
LA , And Houston Set Standards of Wat cities only dream of dont they ? . i didnt get the chance to drive this one while i was here , i honestly wish i had .. but hey , who said my california visits are over .. i might visit again as earlt as this time next year
@edgexxi , those "jet plumes" contain 56000X above what is the safe max forexposre to barium(heart attacks, hi blood pressure), 5600X over the safe max for aluminum oxide(gives you alzheimers), plus all kinds of other goodies. Check out the lab tests posted at ArizonaSkywatchDOTcom for 2008 & 9. Also a new video was just released called "What in the World Are They Spraying?" You should check out the trailer posted on here.
I think that multiplexed part near Diamond Bar is the second busiest in both Los Angeles metro area and the U.S as a whole (after I-405 near Seal Beach). Very few freeway sections carry over 350,000 vehicles per day. This is one of them.
@Freewayjim: Me too; the section between I-5 and CA 91 is relatively plain vanilla (considering it looks similar to other L.A. area freeways)...the HOV flyover at CA 91 is really cool, but it's the section thru the Brea Canyon that I always enjoy the most.
There were plans of extending the 57 from the Orange interchange down to the beach following the Santa Ana River and as a toll road but that would never happen. OCTA and the state don't have any money. I remember when they were fixing the 5 in the 1990s back then the economy wasn't so bad.
@jfs1988: It's still quite the possibility, although it would have to probably be managed by a private company, with the typical oversight by CalTrans to have it conform to state standards. But you're probably right, I doubt it'll get built under the current economic climate.
First I wanted to say, nice video's I'm a road enthusiast myself, and these videos are really neat. You must spend a lot of mone on gasoline. I was wondering, have you ever considered doing one of the 14 Antelope Valley Freeway.
@Travisjcjunky: CA 14 is definitely on my list of freeways to record. For the time being, however, the poor pavement quality thru Santa Clarita, combined with the fairly poor anti-shake technology in my Canon, makes a filming excursion unlikey anytime soon along the 14.
Very scenic video; especially going N. in winter with the green hills and snowy mtns. The relative absence of smog helps a lot too :). I drove this Southbound in the summer and needless to say not quite so scenic:(.

The Brea Canyon portion of the 57 reminds me of I-210 on the San Fernando Valley oFTo

Kewl vid Brent, I especially liked the jet plumes in it's crisscross pattern in the sky. You ought to be in The Valley making movies at Universal. :)

Great footage. Looks much better as opposed to your first CA 57 video.
