  • This version is very different though very likable , thumbs up !

  • JT that was the wittiest thing I've read in a long time. This video now has one redeeming quality.

  • as a straight man it pains me to say i prefer dick's

  • I've been a lifelong fan of Pink Floyd, and this cover of the Dines tune is truly haunting. Thank You for posting this

  • Sweet

  • This is a beautiful song ..... it was written by the Sherman Brothers who wrote most of the songs for Disney movies back then. Although Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was not A Disney movie, Dick Van Dyke recommended them and rightly so. I believe it was their incredible song writing that made Mary Poppins such a memorable classic. All of the songs in Mary Poppins are written by them.

  • 1 dislike..must have been a vote by Dick van Dyke..not much into Pink floyd lol

  • I have to play this to my daughter at bedtime, she sings......hope it never stops

  • @gumbo1973 was...

    now.. 1 dislike.. :(

  • It may be worth bearing in mind that Mr Van Dyke admitted to being so drunk during the filming of Mary Poppins that he still has no recollection of singing one of the songs.

  • What a true idol, a great man, and artist

  • Dave's the man !

  • 0:41-0:47 mysteriously beautiful

  • What an amazing choice of song to finish the show, great stuff, wish I had been there.

  • I was here at this gig with a good friend of mine and what an ending to a fab show !

  • You are very lucky!

  • I was in a trance, under his spell, then he quickly whispers "goodnite" at 1:48 and I started trembling because it was over.

    What a mystical song!!!

  • If this song wasn't written by by the sherman brothers, I would think that this would be a song gilmour would write and record. I mean it sounds like his style of chord structure.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid and it's great to see it done like this by a great artist

  • Blinkered by a great performance of a classic song?? Embarrassed you should be I think of your comments ;)

  • Embarrassed you should be I think of your comments , is that you yoda?

  • Perhaps in one of his many guises. On a serious note, it is a cracking song.

  • we shall agree to disagree my friend

  • Fair enough :)

  • wicked.thanks David, From mike k. Transam Trucking. been there , done that......................

  • good songwriters know good songs ... it's that simple ...

  • What a perfect song to end 2008 - and watch my Crazy Diamond sail faraway x

  • You can almost see the root here of Davids' Floyd, it's all been a lullaby... all along, adorable.

  • For those of you who are comparing David Gilmour's version to Dick Van Dyke's original...please don't. You miss the point. The original was the original. It is what it is. It's a wonderful song sung by a father (in the movie) to his children. David Gilmour paid homage to the song by singing his own version. I am sure he did not intend to do a better version...just his own. Gilmour does a great job. Both versions are sweet, heartfelt and meaningful. Ok?

  • @reagan88 you can imagine him being that father & singing this to his own children

  • @reagan88 Well said, I could not have said it better

  • @reagan88 The original was from Frankie Valli, definitely not the horrible version of Dick van Dyke

  • @pikpop Corection, the original is by Bobbie Gentry, my fault

  • @pikpop You're wrong. This was not originally recorded by Frankie Valli.

  • @reagan88 I would be interested to hear Dick Van Dyke's rendition of 'Comfortably Numb'.....

  • eerie, beautiful, tear-jerker just like it was in the movie....but he can sing a hell of a lot better than Dick van Dyke.

  • Having watched this a gazillion times, yes the Cello is haunting but the production is sublime. The female vocals come in at just the right time and the double bass is perfectly understated. I wasn't at this gig, was this song the fimal encore? If so what can you say?

    Magnificque

    Peace

    Phil

  • The cello really is haunting, but so beautiful.

  • The Cello is so haunting

  • Awesome. David Gilmour sings this 100 times better than Dick Van Dyke.

  • my new favourite song

  • Pink Floyd does Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...WONDERFUL!!!

  • i cannot get enough of this!

  • This is why David Gilmour is the quintessential elder statesman of rock.

  • So freaking cool, Dick Van Dyke would be proud. I'm sure everyone knows but for those who don't it from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when he puts the kids to sleep, Dick Van Dyke does it perfectly!!!

  • is there a song more capable of totaly relaxng?

  • I knew David Gilmour wouldn't disappoint when I first saw the title. Nice performance!

  • Legend.
