i checked the stats: Scarlet 1.4 million boxoffice, her 3rd big hit after Taegukgi (12M) & Lover's Concerto (1.6M) so it's hardly a big flop, just not as big as they want. a dark, disjointed movie isn't gonna be everyone's fave anyway. critics, anti's, her parents were too hard on her - and maybe herself too. she had (known) depression over one year. Scarlet started production 8 months before her death & took only 4 months, so there were other factors.
