Thank you very much for so many new names ( new for me) i will try and listen to as many as i can!I agree i dont know many but i try to gather as much info and recital as possible so i can learn to appreciate more of the grateness of OUR CLASSICAL MUSIC heritage!/wealth!
Here it over and over again and wonder at the singer's perfection and range. Parveen is a gift to music and music should be proud that Parveen loves to sing. I hope she is appreciated by the tone deaf public. This is magic.
i have heard pandit bhimsen Joshi ji say in one private majlis, "even if one person enjoys my singing in a crowd he said i have got my money's worth"
mostly these great people sing for themselves and their GOD(namely music),I think!I had the grate fortune to be able to chat with parveen ji live and get her autographs and thta alone is enough for me! I am grateful to GOD to have enabled me to enjoy and an opportunity to accoustically share this wealth with such greats!
Parveen is better than excellent in this bhajan. Took her 50 years to sing at this level. She has shakti and bhagti in her voice. This is the real Indian music. I wonder what Rafi, Lata, noor jehan have been singing. Maybe they should write an apology.
@Psyche1954 This `sadra' (any composition in the ten-beat cycle is called that) is really a bhajan which was composed by the great formalist of Hindustani classical music Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande and she learned it through her Guru Pt Chinmoy Lahiri (who was steeped in Bhatkhande's lineage of Agra gharana through his disciple Pandit Srikrishna Ratanjankar,)

I just knew upto Jhaptal bit but did not know about the Agra gharana connectionand though knew her guru in initial tutilage was Pt Chinmoy Lahiri, it is so interesting to learn moreI have an isolated cassette of Pandut Ratanjankar, ji i know what the sleeve note sats! I only knew not many people have remained loyal to Agra gharana after Fayyaz Khan sahib! cant thank you enough! our heritage is like an ocean!

This is provbably the MOST famous bhajan by Parveen Sultana and is sung in sadra style ( a halmark of her gharana Patiala Gharana!) set to Jhaptaal!
her pedigree is of course unmistakable and I was fortunate enough to listsn to her concert live!
