Fifty years ago, it didn't seem to matter too much what people did in other countries. But the world has shrunk in many ways; we are more interdependent, etc. In another hundred years, people might travel from country to country just as we now travel from state to state. There will need to be new, universal standards but hopefully this will allow more opportunities for people to literally find their place in the world.
@MrFrank440 Come on, let's be fair here. We've got 100,000 troops out of Iraq, which was after all the war of choice that President Obama never supported, and he is sticking with his plan to start reducing forces in Afghanistan by mid year next year. Please give the man a chance to clean up the pretty big mess he was left with by the previous Administration, okay?
@DesertRatDan Pullying out of Iraq doesnt mean peace. We're still at war with radical Islam and Global Jihad. The status of peace occurs when there is no war, not when their is no fighting. Their still fighting by the way.
@DesertRatDan Really? Even though we've seen troop surges in Afghanistan? Numbering about 130,000; not to mention 2010 saw the most casualties yet for soldiers. And of course don't forget the $30 billion of aid to the terrorist government Israel so they can kill more Palestinians....
It's good that you want peace, but I don't think it is realistic. We are apex predators. It is not in our nature to be peaceful. I think Justice is a better goal to work towards. As I understand your idea of "Peace"--global unity and the cessation of war--we will never have that. But it is sometimes possible to create Justice. Also, there is some irony here, in that Cat Stevens supported the death fatwa on Salman Rushdie... I admire his music, but no longer respect the man...
I will always believe in you, Prsident Barack Obama...I will trust that you will get us there to Peace somehow....I don't leave the kitchen when it gets hot!
i realy do like to believe obama....and his speaches are so good they make me cry........just that he is now sending more and more troops to afghanistan and is actually talking about pakistan (worldwar?) gives me the creeps
I hear you, but I also think that we can actually bring more peace to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the surrounding region by marginalizing and subsequently rendering impotent the influence of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
@JBeatty17 Indeed, we all need to get on that train. John Lenon had it right when he asked us to imagine. Our brothers and sisters need to come home. It is time.
@JBeatty17...aye, honour your promises to the american people mr. president...bring our troops home and stop the madness that is war...find peaceful solutions...war begats more war...peace is the way...it is time for a new golden age of mankind..a brotherhood of man...john lennon's imagine should be an anthem for planet earth & peace train too. peace, slan go foill & saoirse/freedom for all~...jillyhawk-but-a-dove-for-peace-aye!
I bet they are singing "Peace Train" right now in Afghanistan since he has expanded and extended the war there. Ironic, that the music is from Cat Stevens, who is banned from the U.S. for his extreme anti-western Islamic activities.
I worked for the Obama campaign during the presidential election! The thing that I remember most is the enormous amount of energy towards making peace a reality, to move towards a common goal. We, everyone around the world, have to work towards a goal of peace and harmony, or we will never accomplish anything.
This is a great testimony to the vision that we bought into on the other side of Election Day. Now that it's a year after this was posted, I have to admit that I'm shocked at how different the dream is when the staunch reality of the Oval Office hits home. I'm sure that President Obama will deliver. We just have to appreciate how peace is complicated and takes a lot more work and patience than just dreaming about it.
After listening to Obama's inauguration speech, as a Muslim I felt some hope as it was a change from Bush's ugly speeches.I think this song is fitting for Obama-I just hope he lives up to it-I pray he does.
Interesting that someone on a watchlist and taken off a plane to America to make more beautiful music should be the soundtrack for such a world changing event. Cat Stevens and Stevie Wonder should be made Poet Laureate by the Obama administration. Listening to the music of their minds needs no photo montage. This one was fitting and should be as required as singing the star spangled banner I'm certain to be labled unpatriotic but who cares Heres hoping that the Peace Train rolls for an eternity
It is my most sincere hope that Barack Obama will personally invite Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam to sing "Peace Train" at his inauguration. Sam Cooke is not here to sing "A Change is Going to Come", but Aretha Franklin, Aaron Neville, and my golden-throated neighbor is.
who is your golden throated neighbor? I'm sure that as much as he might like to it would be a big mistake to do so. It would only dredge up the earlier nonsense; "Barack Hussein" Unfortunately, sometimes we must forgo our beliefs to maintain peace among the masses. Baby steps are necessary when dealing with the ignorant, bitter and hateful people who surround us. All we can do is pray for them and bide our time.
Hope. Change. I'm onboard this train. In what's left of my lifetime, he (Obama) may just be the worlds last best hope for peace. Americans, it can't just be about America... but about all of us... the World. I am feeling very positive and inspired right now.
I'm still receiving trash email from Republican friends. Taxes! Socicalism! Narcisssism! Of course, there are those who are still fighting the Civil War. I'm forwarding the link to this video to those friends...not that they'll bother to watch.
hey joolee75 whoever calls him a socialist ask them to define a socialist and a liberal because they will only make themselves look stupid. i get this alot from my friends too but they dont know what socialism is. only thing a socialist and liberal agree on is opposition to totalitarianism. oh and also make sure they understand that the idea of socialism isnt bad it just doesnt work and there has never been a socialist country in history.
We'll see here in a few hours if he wins, I voted for him today, not that that matters with the electoral college, but we need something better then Bush, Bush has been so, so bad for this country. Good luck Obama, we need you.
Since 2006, when the democrats won congress, this was the song that kept me happy. Everytime that Bush did something aweful in office, I played this and thought that things are going to get better because we took away as much power as we could. Putting it to Barack Obama with people around the world holding signs of support has lifted me up. Gobama!
Obama knew the invasion and occupation of Iraq was a mistake from the very beginning. He has readily acknowledged that it's a 'dangerous world' out there and yes, I hear him loud and clear. The point I'm making with this video is that Obama will at least be a lot smarter about use and treatment of our military than McCain would. Let's please stop with the partisanship, end the Iraq occupation responsibly, and then go after Bin Laden is an efficient, effective manner.
Thank you for composing this wonderful hope for peace. It brought tears to my eyes. I love Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam's music and how fitting to bring in these clips of Obama, our Next President Of The United States Of America!!
Thank you for this post. Peacetrain, a befitting song for his campaigne. Somehow I have this great sense of sadness, for you see the other side are hate mongers and wish even death on this man. Everything is changing and yet it stays the same. It is good to have hope and I think that Barack definitley brings a sense of real hope, real change.
Obama will govern with patience and wisdom, not blustering with fear "bring it on" to the like of Saddam Hussein. Sure, saw to it that Saddam was killed, but what real progress did that make? Where is Osama bin Laden!!! Our real enemy! Why hasn't the Bush/Cheney gang captured or killed him? I thought this was supposed to be their highest priority?
and yet the only area that Dr Paul thinks the federal government is responsible for is defense! But not, Social Security, Dept of Education, etc. That doesn't sound real peaceful to me.
Civil society can do all of these things. We can have both, we can have freedom from government and we can have protection and security that comes from voluntary civic and social organizations and institutions.
I am giving thought to voting for Obama BUT...BUT he did vote to fund the war and he has shown a liking for sabre rattling and that does concern me. I know it's him or the nut McCain but and another vote for Nader will not measn anything in the long run (or short run in my state)...I think I'll trust Obama to be more like state Rep Obama than US Senator Obama.
At least Obama understands why evil exists and that the only people we need to go after are those responsible for the 9/11 attacks, not those in Iraq! We are one of the most hated countries in the world and he wants to fix that, not make it worse. Obama has an approval rating in other countries that McCain can only dream of having. "An eye for an eye will leave the world blind". I'm glad someone sees that.
By the way, BOB MARLEY FOR PRESIDENT! Woot! If only he were still alive =(
I really liked the image of Dr. King and Gandhiji at 1:11. They BOTH put it out there in a way that has even more relevance today than in their respective eras, don't you think?
Everyone has so many different veiws about the war. And realistically they are all valid. It's not as easy as saying "I'll stop if you stop". "WORLD PEACE" will not be acheived for decades to come. last i heard he whants to pull our soldiers out of iraq which isnt a good idea i dont think. cause if they atack again i dont whant it on our turf. you dont have to support the war but support our troops.
Who's "they"? Iraq didn't attack us in the first place. All this war has done is make us more vulnerable, more hated, and an international embarrassment. You want us to support our troops? How about supporting them by NOT expecting them to continue a war that was manufactured through lies and propaganda?
He has NOT suggested an invasion of Pakistan, stop parroting corporate media talking points. I'm as anti-war as anybody but I also believe in justice and the person responsible for the murder of nearly 3000 innocent American civilians on 9/11/01 is still on the loose and planning more attacks. In this case I agree with Obama that Osama bin Laden needs to be brought to justice and because of the topographical challenges faced in doing so, we do need more troops in Afghanistan.
Wow! Great video. That song brings back so many good memories, sort of like this movement will when we look back after Obama has been President for two terms. Then we'll be working to vote another Democrat in because of course, by then everyone, even the bitter Ron Paul supporters, will be back to work, healthy and educated, having enjoyed the benefits of a brilliant leader. 2016 should be a piece of cake. I'm looking forward to it.
those RP folks are amazing. did you all forget that RP has suspended his campaign? you now spell it BARR. here i had hopes of not having every single thing on the web spammed by those fifteen RP supporters...but alas.
And I find it sad and disappointing when Ron Paul supporters think Paul supports and will create peace. Ron Paul = more of an even more extreme brand of YOYO (you're on your own) Bush/McCain policies. So how about you get with it?
BARACK OBAMA
I have to admit though that Ron Paul supporters are probably the best spammers out there!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes... YOYO. YOU SHOULD BE ON YOUR OWN. Expecting the government to be able to take care of you leads to the bull crap we have in our government now. But you wont understand this.... keep supporting Obama, even though he voted to demolish the 4th Amendment to the Constitution by voting FOR the FISA bill.
I am on my own and always have been. I've served my country in the military and have never asked for one thing in return. I own two businesses and have made it entirely on my own hard work and determination so I don't need any lectures from you. So yes, I will keep supporting Obama and you go ahead and keep falling for the corporate media's BS about the FISA bill because Obama has it right.
I have decided that is is my favorite of all your videos, Dan. Whenever I am feeling a tiny bit down about this world, this song and video make me smile and give me back my HOPE.....like the lady says..."You just BETTER be President, Barack Obama!"
guess barack obama missed a trick here, if he had this playing whilst getting off that train, with the never ending oil war of bush and blackwater he could of started a movement that the internet would of carried for him for free, tapped into the peace movement and secured more votes, mind you idiots who are running scared of sensible politics ie bush and his fox news channels would report barack supporting terrorist as he listens to cat stevens, ha that really is the shit they want us to belive
Barack is not a muslim, but the fact that he want to reach out to the muslim world, so usa troops could leave Iraq and let them handle it, is not a bad idea in my eyes..it´s a bad idea to hate 2 billion ppl...but hey..vote mccain and u will get more wars..just what america needs..?
Thanks so much Dan, your videos always bring a smile to my face and/or a tear to my eye - this one did both! Loved the very end especially. He's just GOTTA be president! He BETTER be president!

No government can do a 180 degree turn overnight.
Your in delusion if you think that leaving Iraq or Arghanistan shall bring peace.
There shall no be no peace until the Palestinians are free from Israeli Crimes against humanity.
Any nation that sponsors or supports the systemic denial of human rights deserves neither peace nor security.

Hi Vistavision2,
you're right. 180 degree over night is to much. A constraint for a president is to survive his decissions.
Itzaak Rabin bruised the constraint. Anyway killing him was one Crime of the Israelis.
Every nation, every human beeing deserves human rights. When you exclude people conditionally you stand beside the US you decline.
Perfect is what you do right now.

Democracy will come to Iran. They once rallied around a dictator in fear of our dictator named George W.
Now we want peace and Iran is going about it the right way. Freedom, Democracy it is not something that can be given.
Iraq is lost because they did not earn it. In Iran as they protest we much encourage them. For democracy is something that must be earned.
Freedom is something earned.

last i heard he whants to pull our soldiers out of iraq which isnt a good idea i dont think. cause if they atack again i dont whant it on our turf. you dont have to support the war but support our troops.
volcombmth 3 years ago
"cause if they attack again"
Who's "they"? Iraq didn't attack us in the first place. All this war has done is make us more vulnerable, more hated, and an international embarrassment. You want us to support our troops? How about supporting them by NOT expecting them to continue a war that was manufactured through lies and propaganda?

obama wants more troops to afghanistan, and has suggested an invasion of pakistan... peace?
ellwyn 3 years ago

I find it sad and disappointing when Obama supporters think Obama supports and will create peace. Obama = status quo. Get with it.
RON PAUL.

Yes...
SoulShepherd84 3 years ago
I am on my own and always have been. I've served my country in the military and have never asked for one thing in return. I own two businesses and have made it entirely on my own hard work and determination so I don't need any lectures from you. So yes, I will keep supporting Obama and you go ahead and keep falling for the corporate media's BS about the FISA bill because Obama has it right.

I have decided that is is my favorite of all your videos, Dan. Whenever I am feeling a tiny bit down about this world, this song and video make me smile and give me back my HOPE.....like the lady says..."You just BETTER be President, Barack Obama!"

I believe he will be the president that kenedy would have been if his presidency had not been cut so tragicly short.

guess barack obama missed a trick here, if he had this playing whilst getting off that train, with the never ending oil war of bush and blackwater he could of started a movement that the internet would of carried for him for free, tapped into the peace movement and secured more votes, mind you idiots who are running scared of sensible politics ie bush and his fox news channels would report barack supporting terrorist as he listens to cat stevens, ha that really is the shit they want us to belive
