Astro Boy would take Gigantor to the Scrap Yard!!! I got my Astro Boy theme song record from the Helm's Bakery truck (So. Cal) in the early 60's, so that makes me an expert on all things Astro Boy. Gigantor had a better theme song tho.
The kids of this new Millennium haven't a clue that they watch garbage compared to when I was a kid growing up in the 50's-60's. This was one of my very favorite cartoons, to go along with the 8th Man, and Gigantor. It was the very first Japination Cartoons to hit America. I was diiferent than the Justice League, Batman/Superman and the Merry Marvel Marching Society, but great in it's own way!
I have got a terrible feeling the new movie is just going to suck a*s. I don't kn ow why they just can't leave these cartoons as they are. They were perfect back in the sixties. Look at what they did to the Thunderbirds? That movie was TERRIBLE. I just don't get it.
@pie2these Sometimes they make six like they did with Star Wars. I mean c'mon, that's just stupid. Oh and you realise that Shrek Four is coming out in a few weeks. It starts in Australia a week before Toy story 3. Good for them because Pixar is going to KICK their a**
I also watched this in 1963 as a new cartoon. It was a very new type of cartoon, giving us kids a break from Popeye and Bugs Bunny reruns. I have them on dvd now,and watch them every few weeks, still good as they were in 1963!
I never cared much for the series but I always enjoyed the theme song and accompanying visuals, especially this version. It has stayed with me all through the years. The boys sings with innocent, enthusiastic admiration for their hero. The background music is excellent, never competing with but, instead, lending perfect support to the boys. Far superior to other versions.
theme songs in order of the best 1. astro boy(sung by a group of ny 10yr old boys 2. kimba(sung by a young andy williams) 3. prince planet(sung by 4 yr old girls) where did they get these singers-at an orphanage? still, the best songs ever.
One of my favorites to! I love Fujio's style. It's not like animes today it's simple and fun to watch! I still enjoy Doraemon! Doraemon is still going on Channel Panda non-stop and It's the most successful anime ever with 1950 episodes!
@karsol7 It was my favorite in the sixties. I like it better than Prince Planet although that was pretty good too. Marine boy OTOH always looked tired to me, even when I was a child.
Yes, 'cartoonjoe', you're right. Osamu Tezuka, through Mushi Productions, made a deal with Video Promotions {Fred Ladd's company} and NBC Enterprises to syndicate an English version of "TETSUWAN ATOM" ("MIGHTY ATOM") in the United States in September of 1963 [WNEW-TV in New York was the "flagship" station that originally carried it]. Because there was a similar character's name already copyrighted in the U.S., he became "ASTRO BOY" here....
