@jakicevic: Edgar Allan Poe wrote a story (Berenice) about a woman who was buried alive, and is only saved because her husband dug her back up to cut out her teeth. It's a really creepy-cool story, and works well as a ghost story for 12-14 year olds. I highly recommend it, and was disappointed that it wasn't included on the list of Poe's works onurdogu posted.
usually tim burton is a complete tool. he has ruined countless classics. i will never forgive him for the chocolate factory. BUT, this underground creativity helps me understand his reputation. i liked it. BUT, edgar allen poe is a name u have no right to attatch urself to. i dont know how to feel i guess.
@b2e1z Not quite! Yes he has ruined many classics but that's just when he tries stories not written by himself, such is the case of Alice in Wonderland (I literaly puked). The nightmare before christmas is awesome but just because it was directed by Henry Sellick. Corpse Bride 50/50... but this one is great.
the nightmare before christmas was authenitcally tim burton, and i give him credit for that, BUT i cant forgive how painful he made classics, he butchered my favorite movie you cant blame me for resenting him. that being said, i think he has a niche within my favorite author ;edgar allan poe @elcuasimodo777
Please check out my cinematic depiction of the Spirits of the Dead written by Edgar Allan Poe. I recently shot this short film about a man walking into a church and reading this macabre poem. Just click on my name and it will bring you right to it.
And I think Tim Burton should direct a biopic of Edgar Allan Poe. Who agrees?
I'd also like to see him direct a biopic of Lon Chaney, the famed silent screen actor who was known best for playing Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923) and Erik, the Phantom in "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925). Lon played many disfigured/tormented souls in his time, often designing his own makeup, and was so skilled at it they called him "The Man of a Thousand Faces".
@callycap3 Nightmare Before Christmas had cool characters but the plot was shit (In my opinion) , The Batman film were okay and Edward Scissorhands was Okaish (In My opinion)
@jackamatyus An early form of the character of Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas can be seen in the upper-left corner of the screen from 1:18-1:25 as well as in front of the embodiment of his deceased wife from 4:45-4:47.
Aha! I watched this in English a few days before halloween. I really love this video, though, answering questions on it after was such a pain. >.< BUT I GOTS A 95! :D I put that his hobby was experimenting on his dog, but apparently, that was wrong so i got a 95 oAo'
I found myself at the Door wanting to knock, but to frightened by Poe don't you know.
Just a click later I was drawn to listen to a delightful story of a boy named Vincent, recounted by another Vincent telling me this young lad found not joy, but was thrilled by the night. How this boy Vincent's worship of Edgar Allan Poe, brought him to a place where his fresh mind had learned too much to know, and how dear Vincent paid the Price.
@sexybethizit09 allen poe wrote the raven. jus type the raven into google and click on the first few, it will be there. read it it is a true masterpiece
Genius pure genius! I know people say that about allot of things but it's true. Truly brilliant, flawless from beginning to end, funny and frightening. Vincen is Tim Burton's miniature masterpiece!
I love to see how well Edgar Poe and Tim Burton would react to one another, both masters of horror. Poe able to bring out man's worst fears not with scares but with the unknown horrors that await the next turn of the page. Poe with the master of visual creative style and showing death and gloomy setting but always showing a perfect balance of positive and negative parts upon the big screen. Both of these people are really awesome and it is still sad to have what had happen to Edgar Poe. RIP.
I loved this the first time I saw this, it's just fantastic. My absolute favourites all mashed together, it's so great. I love Tim, Vincent, Edgar, all of them. :)
Though Tim Burton is referencing a lot to Poe, I do not believe it is only the raven. Thank you for posting this video it is quite outstanding but you educate people falsely on the Raven and Poe. This is a reference to a number of Poe's works regarding his wife. Such as digging up the grave, isolation, etc. It is not JUST the Raven.
Neither is the host of this video educating people "falsely on the Raven and Poe," nor is Burton "referencing" a lot to Poe. The host is simply referring to the excerpts from Poe's poem itself and the multiple allusions to symbolism in that work of art. Any remaining "referencing" or semblance of Poe is seen through the interpretation of a child, and is thus neither the intentional nor accidental distortion of any given work. I agree that it is quite outstanding.
@BirdtailKey " Premature Burial" "Murders In The Rue Morgue" "Fall Of The House Of Usher""The Raven" And although not a writing of Poe,it was a movie with Vincent Price,,,,"House Of Wax".
