  • @jakicevic: Edgar Allan Poe wrote a story (Berenice) about a woman who was buried alive, and is only saved because her husband dug her back up to cut out her teeth. It's a really creepy-cool story, and works well as a ghost story for 12-14 year olds. I highly recommend it, and was disappointed that it wasn't included on the list of Poe's works onurdogu posted.

  • The wax part in the story came from the film House of wax starring Vincent Price

  • Once upon a midnight dreary...

  • WOW! Nice.

  • Vincent Barried his wife...ALIVE?????

  • This is so SO beautiful

  • God how i love Tim Burtons movies and film how creepy they are and good they are i love them and i love how he draws

  • usually tim burton is a complete tool. he has ruined countless classics. i will never forgive him for the chocolate factory. BUT, this underground creativity helps me understand his reputation. i liked it. BUT, edgar allen poe is a name u have no right to attatch urself to. i dont know how to feel i guess.

  • @b2e1z Not quite! Yes he has ruined many classics but that's just when he tries stories not written by himself, such is the case of Alice in Wonderland (I literaly puked). The nightmare before christmas is awesome but just because it was directed by Henry Sellick. Corpse Bride 50/50... but this one is great.

  • the nightmare before christmas was authenitcally tim burton, and i give him credit for that, BUT i cant forgive how painful he made classics, he butchered my favorite movie you cant blame me for resenting him. that being said, i think he has a niche within my favorite author ;edgar allan poe @elcuasimodo777

  • @b2e1z Tim Burton created the characters and the story but Henry Selick is an awesome director, have you seen Coraline?

  • Brilliant Indeed ...

  • Poe's masterpiece "The Raven" abridged & put to music:

    go to facebookDOTcom/masqueradeband

  • Omg I love this so much ^.^

  • Someone should make a poem of this!

  • Poe's stories and poems in Tim Burtons Vincent:

    - The Black Cat

    - The Oval Portrait

    - The Premature Burial (?)

    - The Fall of the House of Usher

    - Eleonora

    - The Raven

The Zombies and the Wax are the only stories that I don't know ^^.

  • @AngelaEvrard i think the wax one was from Vincent's movie "house of wax"? :)

  • @xXxGutlessWonderxXx

    Ok :p. That explains a lot :).

  • Forever classic

  • Bloody Brillant.

  • amazing

  • im really glad Halloween horror nights is bringing Edgar Allen poe's works to a scare zone

  • @Wormtail96 a boy's decent into madness

  • @Wormtail96 no

  • I <3 Edgar Allan Poe and Tim Burton

  • @DriftDan77 Oh man if only life worked that way.. According to you I must love and appreciate "big time" film makers.

Sorry to say this to you but big time film maker or not my opinion stays the same.

Have a nice day or not.

  • @DriftDan77 I'm not allowed to make a comment about a public video on YouTube? Oh my! I must have skipped over the rules of using this website.

  • Love this!!!!!! :)

And I think Tim Burton should direct a biopic of Edgar Allan Poe. Who agrees?

I'd also like to see him direct a biopic of Lon Chaney, the famed silent screen actor who was known best for playing Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923) and Erik, the Phantom in "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925). Lon played many disfigured/tormented souls in his time, often designing his own makeup, and was so skilled at it they called him "The Man of a Thousand Faces".

  • i fucking love tim burton

  • Very Tim Burton. His work is somewhat entertaining, even if the plot isn't so interesting.

  • Abercrombie is the best dog name ever.

  • thee art terrified at thou, what foul madness!

  • My darling Vincent. I miss you so much. Many happy and fond memories with you and the family, a long, long, long, long. Lots of Love xxxx

  • Why can't Tim Burton make films like Mars attack, Beetle Juice and Sleepy hollow most of his film are rubbish in my opinion

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy Mars Attacks was terrible. And I can't believe you didn't mention Edward Scissorhands, Batman or Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • @callycap3 Nightmare Before Christmas had cool characters but the plot was shit (In my opinion) , The Batman film were okay and Edward Scissorhands was Okaish (In My opinion)

  • @callycap3 i grew up with mars attack.....

  • wow awsome!

creepy and wierd but thats why i like tim burton!

  • this is amazing! sorry but i dont know.. this is a movie??? a book??

    thnxx

  • @serenity258 was a short film you can find it on the anniversary edition of A Nightmare Before Christmas (3D) box. It was Vincent Price' s voice to.

  • @MrJkhg oh thank you very must for the info!! so its more than this video here right?

  • @serenity258 yer think its about 15 mins long in full

  • it reminds me of edward gorey

  • DID HE DIE?

  • lol! i like the part of the cat at 0:53

  • Why is vincient's mouth on his chin

  • I like this, and the stop motion just adds creepiness to it.

  • Does anybody know who Vincent's wife is and what story she is in???

  • Comment removed

  • @EAPTRTPATP I think he's supposed to be reading Poe's short story Berenice, where the main character's wife is buried alive.

  • i love tim burton and stepen king and edgar allen poe

  • @palmakids the only thing you need now is Clive Barker. ;)

  • someone needs some therapy. O-e

  • how could 7 people dislike this???

  • To escape the badness, he reached for the door

but fell limp and lifeless down on the floor

His voice was soft and very slow

As he quoted "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe:

"And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor

    Shall be lifted...Nevermore."

  • At 1:18 you can see Jack Skellington on the left...I think. It looks like him O.o

  • @jackamatyus An early form of the character of Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas can be seen in the upper-left corner of the screen from 1:18-1:25 as well as in front of the embodiment of his deceased wife from 4:45-4:47.

  • @jackamatyus no thats not him. if you look closely its just a head with the eyeballs haging out.

  • I would like to hear Poe poems and stories narated by this man :X i simply like his woice and way of talking

  • @Silver0angel Try here to search for "The Raven read by Vincent Price" here on YouTube

  • And tim burton still freaks the shit out of me.

  • Aha! I watched this in English a few days before halloween. I really love this video, though, answering questions on it after was such a pain. >.< BUT I GOTS A 95! :D I put that his hobby was experimenting on his dog, but apparently, that was wrong so i got a 95 oAo'

  • @MuffinTaters 'muffin taters', haw haw! thas funny :D

  • dang... lol this lil movie badass. =]

  • I'd love to see Burton do "Dark Shadows" animated in this style.

  • man...this freaked me out and gave me nightmares in my youth,

  • this gave me the creeps when i first saw it

  • so awesome!!! what year was it made??

  • Brilliant. Simply brilliant. I love it.

  • spectacular!

  • What's the tune Vincent plays with his flute? It's also played at the end credits

  • This is so good

  • Apparently this was made when Tim was still in school or just out of school!

Anyway, my question remains the same; HOW, IN THE HOLY "RAVEN" DID TIM GET ONE OF THE BIGGEST HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS OF ALL TIME; TO DO THIS?

  • sooo... the raven???

  • why is this shit ya pants spooky

  • tim burton and johnny depp xxx ily xx

  • I found myself at the Door wanting to knock, but to frightened by Poe don't you know.

Just a click later I was drawn to listen to a delightful story of a boy named Vincent, recounted by another Vincent telling me this young lad found not joy, but was thrilled by the night. How this boy Vincent's worship of Edgar Allan Poe, brought him to a place where his fresh mind had learned too much to know, and how dear Vincent paid the Price.

  • what is the story The Raven all about , i would love to read it if Tim Burton was inspired by it and Edger Alan Poe !

  • @sexybethizit09 allen poe wrote the raven. jus type the raven into google and click on the first few, it will be there. read it it is a true masterpiece

  • ILY Tim Burton!!!!!

  • Ah, back when Tim Burton was interesting and distinct, now a days his style is mainstream, to fall back into obscurity would be a wonderful dream.

  • The melody that is played on the beginning and the end is:

"The Streets of Cairo", or "The Poor Little Country Maid".

There are also alternate names like: "The Girls in France"

  • i love tim burton and i love edgar allan poe. what more could i possibly ask for?

  • this is beyond words...absolutely perfect!

  • This is my favorite short movie ever. It should be sent in a chain letter or something. That would be the only one that I would pass

  • love it alot! I totally relate.

  • Does someone know what is the music that is played on the beginning, the one that he is playing on a flute ?

  • MORE POWERFUL THAN...THEE???

  • got this on DVD .... love it!

the best detail maybe is, at the very beginning it says he wants to be like vincent price, and vincent price is actually the one reading this =)

tim burton really is the master!

  • theres a lot of poe in this

  • Simple, yet genius animation

  • Amazing! Thank you very much for sharing.

  • I love this!

Edgar Allan Poe + Tim Burton=Super Duper Uper Luper Genius

  • Absolutely right!

  • Incredible!

  • Genius pure genius! I know people say that about allot of things but it's true. Truly brilliant, flawless from beginning to end, funny and frightening. Vincen is Tim Burton's miniature masterpiece!

  • @Beerlejuice are u a fan of tim burton i am :)))))))

  • This is beautifully made

  • I watch things like Saw and The Grudge

But I think this is alot scarier.. and its amazing how it can scare you just from the story and words from the poem

    proper good job :)

  • God, this must have taken so much hard work

  • Brilliant :)

  • Beautiful.

  • I love to see how well Edgar Poe and Tim Burton would react to one another, both masters of horror. Poe able to bring out man's worst fears not with scares but with the unknown horrors that await the next turn of the page. Poe with the master of visual creative style and showing death and gloomy setting but always showing a perfect balance of positive and negative parts upon the big screen. Both of these people are really awesome and it is still sad to have what had happen to Edgar Poe. RIP.

  • whats the name of that song that plays at the beginning

  • It's as the birthplace of goths, pity that, as it is beautifully dark! An effortless masterpiece.

  • I loved this the first time I saw this, it's just fantastic. My absolute favourites all mashed together, it's so great. I love Tim, Vincent, Edgar, all of them. :)

  • Though Tim Burton is referencing a lot to Poe, I do not believe it is only the raven. Thank you for posting this video it is quite outstanding but you educate people falsely on the Raven and Poe. This is a reference to a number of Poe's works regarding his wife. Such as digging up the grave, isolation, etc. It is not JUST the Raven.

  • Neither is the host of this video educating people "falsely on the Raven and Poe," nor is Burton "referencing" a lot to Poe. The host is simply referring to the excerpts from Poe's poem itself and the multiple allusions to symbolism in that work of art. Any remaining "referencing" or semblance of Poe is seen through the interpretation of a child, and is thus neither the intentional nor accidental distortion of any given work. I agree that it is quite outstanding.

  • @BirdtailKey " Premature Burial" "Murders In The Rue Morgue" "Fall Of The House Of Usher""The Raven" And although not a writing of Poe,it was a movie with Vincent Price,,,,"House Of Wax".

  • This is brilliant. I love Tim Burton :D

  • LOVE this! Pure Burton perfection.

  • that's SOOO me

  • vincent price

  • perfecto!!!! incredible!!!!!

  • ADORABLE! Thanks for sharing!

  • O.O...I have to get out more or I might end up like that kid (:()X==8 <--dead body

  • He WAS hot<3333Tim burton <3

  • this is eerily fun. edgar allan poe's chilling work is totally something tim burton would be interested in.

  • i swear my kids gonna be like this lol

  • a little boy's imagination is infinite :)

    thanks!

    i love this!

  • Ohh its a fn masterpiece!!! I love it....so dark....yes......Its good that Edger Allen Poe's work has been thrown in with Tim Burton's productions.

  • This is so clever, funny and wonderful. Bravo!

  • this short is creepy but is great

And wonder if this how Tim Burton was in his childhood

  • this is so weird and dark [2]

  • He's so creepy looking it's great!

  • I love this! i was watching on the Blu-Ray version of NMBC, <3 it's so awesome!!

  • I think ive got this short film on the special edition of the nghtmare before christmas. Its so good! Tim Burton has truly perfected the art of telling a good-hearted story with as seriously morbid tone!

  • this was beyond amazing.

  • forgot to say i love the music in the beggining and the end

  • It sounds like a church song. I've read that they just took the melody and wrote the words for it. And I would like to know the name of that melody. Anybody??

  • Same here!!

  • this is so weird and dark

  • wow this is absolutely genius lol, i laughed so hard

  • Wow I have not watched this in years.

  • Yay! Found this by accident, and so glad! Thank you for putting this up. It's great!

    ~K

  • sounds like me on coffee during french lmao

  • Tim Burton created & Vincent Price narrated, do you really need to know anything else?

  • @SamohtDarb yes, that Edgar Allan Poe inspired

  • @luizgabrielcardozo Damn good point sir. i forgot that part

  • Some of it is claymation. There are scenes in this film where rigid models would have never worked. The very brief scene, for example, where Vincent screams and his mouth stretches to fill the shot, was claymation.

    So you weren't entirely wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • Just curious what software you used to make this video?

    Thanks

    Rob

  • one word: "evergreen"

    or

    "evergrey" ^,^

  • ALLAN not ALAN.

His middle name was from his forster father John ALLAN. John Allan never adopted Edgar formally, Hence the "middle name". Techincally it should be Edgar Allan-Poe.

  • It's actually Allen

  • Not for Poe.

  • No, you can look it up, his full name is Edgar Allen Poe

  • I don't have to look it up...it says Allan on every collection I have of his. It also says Allan on his grave down the road in Baltimore and on the Museum. Trust me....it's Allan.

  • I don't have to look it up...it's says Allan on both his tombstone and his monument at Westminster Churchyard on Baltimore. Edgar Allan Poe

  • Simply superb.
