For those who live or visit the Sacramento area, there is a little museum off J Street that has a shrine for KZAP and KROY, and they are usually open during Second Saturday Art Walk. Check it out.
i remerber KZAP and this commercial. i moved away 20 yours ago, but KZAP way on top back then, with PSYCHEDELIC SUNDAY, BLUE PLATE SPECIAL and like every other station TWO FOR TUESDAY
I remember this commercial though I had already moved from Sacramento by this point. By buddy used to be a dj at KZAP, Tom "Mondo" Mendoza. He's been working at channel 40 since his gig at KZAP.
I read in the Bee that an old KZAP commercial was up on YouTube. I was hoping it was the "night janitor cleans out an empty broadcast booth; a fantasy forms" one from about 1982. This one is from when they realized their demographic was getting older. Thank you for posting it.
I remember seeing this commercial in Minneapolis, for KQRS. It was exactly the same, except the song was "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones. There was another one in the same campaign that takes place in an office setting. An employee is dancing to rock music, and a coworker walks into the boss' office to complain about him "doing it again", while the boss is busy playing with a rubik's cube.
Yeah, they must have used this commercial for a lot of different stations. I know they had this same ad for KZAP with the Rolling Stones tune also, don't think I have that one on tape though.
The DJ that does the voiceover at the end is the legendary Bob "The Godfather" Galli who rocked Sacramento airwaves for 20 years and is now working in Buffalo, New York.
Would've been more than that if my original account didn't get the boot last year! I refuse to put back any of that stuff, but you can see most of it on Google Video or Divx Stage 6. I'm limiting what I put up here to stuff that isn't likely to upset any copyright holders, and where sound doesn't matter much since it's difficult to get YouTube to work in stereo.
Alright, the 80s!

i remember an old kzap commercial from the early 1980s, when a guy was listening to and singing "waiting for a girl like you," while sitting on a bus

That was for K108 in Sacramento; it also might have been used by other stations in other areas.

Hmm...those look like KLH Model Twenty One speakers. Anyone know better?
That man's really rocking! Too bad most modern radio stations are just not worth listening to anymore.

Damn, I miss that station. Radio sucks nowadays. Psychedelic Sunday was the best.
