  • Mono audio is stupid. Stop that.

  • These are good videos and helpful.

  • go to, youtube.com/watch?v=JyjYVx8lMBU

  • Cracking nice vid!

  • what if you're a midget? like me

  • @waleediii 99% of moto gp riders are midgets!!! Don't matter mate!!

  • @waleediii bigger knee pads.

  • this knee down malarkey :P

  • Not sure I'm still doing this right. I'm sure I'm ticking the boxes in this video but I still can't get my knee down. I keep thinking I need to turn on more speed but I'm flying round now and def going quicker than the guys in this vid so can't be that. If I ever get the job done I'll let you know!

  • @Knightlore10 ...sounds like your quite the speed freak.

Glad you starting to realize speed has nothing to do with getting your knee down.

There is more to motorcycling than just twisting that throttle, any fool can do that ;)

  • Love this. I have a Benelli as well and the bike is really tall which makes it harder to drag a knee, so I'll definitely save this one to my favorites and study it. Thanks MCN!

  • I've got my knee down aftzer 1.000km of driving motorcycle, with the help of this video and the help of friends, thanks for this great video and the great tips!

  • do we still need to countersteer or just leaning?

  • 14 people can't get their knee down.

  • when your leaning are both feet positioned with toes on the peg or what?

  • why is the sound fucked up?

  • @LVJANISLV sounds like it was filmed near a main road, maybe that is what's messing the sound up?

  • I Say If your scrapeing your knees How is a Cop gunna catch you?? Now that you learned body possitioning, The next step is to learn where to put your Balls.!!!!!!! LoL.. Great Video.!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what year is you r1?

  • That looked scary when dave did it on the tornado, i wonder what the go is

  • OH MY GOD! This is SO reckless. Why would you go around a traffic circle the WRONG WAY?

    ... oh yeah, England.

Just Kidding, Just Kidding. Good video, and greetings from across the pond.

  • Good example, copy from you later

  • i love how he get it down and imediatly pulls up carry it on round the roundabout and scrub the slider in a bit

its about having the same body position and just leaning more not same speed and moving off the bike more get your knee about and ass off and head down and increase the lean and speed untill your there simple

    ride safe guys

  • Not illegal, but frowned upon if you get me, they police can book you for unsafe or reckless riding, or speeding if you're going too quick obviously, but there is no Law saying you cant slide the knees, if the police see you, just hope they're in a good mood or bikers themselves

  • en Francais Pleas!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

  • BEST BIKE! R1!

  • Is this illiegal on UK roads? Someone said to me that it was...

  • @knuckleheadedspaz

no its perfectly legal, providing its done safely. however most copper will consider you to be going to fast if you can get your knee down and thus may try and go for a speeding, or even unsafe riding - too fast for situation if you arent close to the speed limit

  • @grapes008 get white dalton on their ass lol, there amazing in court and bikers :)

  • kneed down malarky .. haha..

  • Its a good video but its quite old.Hope you upload new HD videos again!!!

  • brasilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • i wish we had a bif round about around my place :(

  • Great video!!! Horrible sound!!!!

  • yeah thanks mcn, i got this Knee down malarkey sorted out !

  • nice guide. too bad the sound is only mono.

  • great vid

helped me out a lot for getting my first kneedown on my aprilia rs 50 ^^

  • One of the first things i learnt to do was get my knee down (scratching) back when i passed my test 12 years ago, its an expensive habit esp being that sliders were like £20 a set ! (never been on a racetrack either, although i always thought racers do this so they know there at maximum lean angle when cornering at high speed) get some sliders with pins moulded in for night time sparkage !

  • Dave´s helmet is nice.

    Brazilian flag on it! lol

  • knee down? great stuff i love it but there are times and places especially for practice.

looks abit busy at that r/about for me for learners,. remember, eddie stobart trailers make lousy front mud guards.

  • Chin over wrist man.

  • LOL @ 6:20, a steam powered bike pulls up!

  • have to say the R1 looks amazing

  • Cheap buggers, why not spend some money and go to the track instead of a stupid roundabout? Then you can learn both ways.

  • Oooh looks like that dave chap nearly looses it on the last time.

  • Getting the peg down says more about your riding that worn knee sliders, although it is far more risky.

  • @101francis101 you should get your knee down before your peg, with saying that I have gotten the peg down but not knee since I don't have pucks. so yes peg is further over, but you should be able to do both.

  • @101francis101 - I'd see the peg as more of a risk aversion device if anything... Unless your on a track road which is far superior in quality, with track specific tires then i would definately not attempt to go peg down, most bike will low-side before even reach that.

  • @korefighter You're right! I was just trying to make up for the fact that I've never got my knee down but have, accidentally got the peg to touch down. Once because the suspension was too soft for my pillion and the 2nd time was an over-excited entry into a roundbout. I rarely get the bike lent over that much unless I know the road extremely well. The belly pan scrapes just before the pegs which is quite useful. I ride an 07 hornet 600 btw.

  • MCN is totally biased towards the Yamahas especially 2009 R1

that's why i love MCN coz I'm also a hardcore Yamaha fan and a 08 r6 owner THE BEST LOOKING BIKE IN THE WORLD TO ME

  • Completely pointless.

  • good video

  • I've never got my knee down because I don't have sliders. When I get my new leathers I'll give it a try. I'm sure i'm leaning far enough on my 1198s, I can tell that just by looking at the tyres, i'll probably lean less when I hang off. practise is all it takes, body position and confidence. I'm confident enough. ps anyone trying any of this ensure you warm up your tyres first.

  • expensive ducatti leathers...shoei helmet....and you cant drag knee? hmmm....

  • wheres the part where anyone explains that the purpose of this is to make the bike more upright?

  • I love that r1..

    The best colour combination i.m.o.

What model is het the 07 ?

  • @kaulowloempia 2004-2008

  • that guy is to fat...for riding bike

  • brilliant video. love these MCN guys... wish we had an American equivalent.

  • What a doosh bag, clearly more money than sense buys a ducati 999, a set of ducati leathers and he cant even get his knee down rofl!

  • YOU SOUND JEALOUS CRIMSONFLAME242

  • @crimsonflame242 you sound sad, crimsonflame!

95% of riders cant ride their bike to its full potential, while in total control. So what does it matter what bike you ride...so long as you luv what you do and you stay safe!

  • @crimsonflame242 I bet he can spell douche bag properly though.

  • @crimsonflame242 So without the Ducati and the leathers how exactly is he supposed to learn how to get his knee down? Without practicing on a motorcycle? Is he not allowed to wear proper gear until he is an expert? What you're saying makes no sense.

  • Adds on youtube!? That sucks!!!

  • you did it right! I do it the same way! My bike is 125cc. Just 1 thing to remember is to check the tire when leaning your bike! You may crash if they are worn out!

  • Dave needs to sheed a few lbs...

  • jepp he gained fat

  • and you look cooler then your mates

  • Slow and not give too much gas I also try as far as you sit back so that more weight behind the motorbike is

  • Slow and not give too much gas I also try as far as you sit back so that more weight behind the motorbike is

  • I have a honda cbr600rr ,

Im learning to take a corner like that, but its like snowing now in belguim, iff i change my body posision i go alote quicker :-) so i think its great :-)

    Excuse my englische.. :-)

  • Can I ask? Does it snow down there and how do you corner safely? I am living in Singapore, its does not snow here.

  • It had shown in e video!Juz put half ur backside out n spread out ur leg!

  • Do your tire skid on icy roads?

  • i'm a beginner motor biker, actually don't have a motorcycle yet but i would like to buy one. i ride a pedal bicycle, i was taught on bicycle when cornering, i must "press my outside pedal" when cornering to keep the my weight outside the pedal. on motor biking on the street corners, does is apply the same technique as in bicycling, when cornering? thanks,

  • 1) Your knee acts as a lean indicator. When your knee touches you know exactly how much further you can go before you start dragging hard parts. 2) It helps puts you in the proper body position. If you didn't hang off the bike you would have to lean the bike over much further to carry the same speed.

  • @taylor0 maybe i am quarrelsome but i think that if someone can't get it just waching the video he should never try it...

  • plz excuse my english...Well you want your knee down because your weight is in the direct of the turn. No need to recline the bike too much and so you have a much better grip and you can take the turns faster. plus puting your knee down you get more stability for the weight is based on 3 spots; 2 Wheels + your knee. hope I helped you

  • its not posible in spanish??its very interesting

  • Get a bike ride for a while, then you will understand...

  • I have mixed emotions about this video. On one hand, I dont think the street is a good place to learn to drag knees. But on the other hand, I understand a lot of riders dont have the money to hit the track, or maybe there isnt a track nearby. So if you must learn on the street a roundabout is probably the 2nd best option (empty parking lot even better).

Dragging knees is huge fun, just be safe on the street with your new skill. Or better yet, take to the next level at the track.

  • @lowlypawn what ur saying makes sense but its actually a good everyday riding practice... except without physically touching the ground... i noticed when i started riding i couldnt take regular everyday turns at the speed limit sometimes n cars would get pissed at me.... this helps a rider learn that he can control his bike yet still make the turns at the speed cars make turns

  • @lowlypawn If you see, this isn't the roundabout with most traffic on. And they are not driving like idiots, But yeah track is best.

  • I tryed this on my Yamaha YZF R-125 it dident work Now i have marks on my side skirt:( i think i did wrong. Can eny one help me whit getting my knee down? please. Thanks in advance

  • @DaManSniper Ya not in the right position with ya knee or top body, if ya damaged ya sike skirts you have heaps of lean angle and almost falling off... Get ya arse off the seat and ya foot on the tip of the peg, head out past the mirror and just wait for the scratch... Watch my site and i will post up some tips soon..

  • lol ya goose. its easy on a 125 kid

  • c'mon who needs an explanation for that?

i do this on my 125...

  • can someone post a really detailed explanation how to sit on the bike if you want to get the knee down ? where to put weight ? i know you shouldnt put any weight on handlebars but how exactly that works ? i try to hang out and put my head pass the mirror but i never got the knee down ......

  • Ass crack on the edge of the seat, so your half on half off.

Tip toes on the pegs. one knee 'hugging' the tank the other stuck out as far as possible.

Stick your head round the door, as far as you can (past the mirror).

Then just lean the bike over, fairly simple.

Push down on the leg with the leg thats hugging the tank.

Dont put alot of weight on the handle bars. One arm (sky side) should be out strait and the other (towards the ground) should be basically completely bent.

    Hope this helps!

  • yea im going to a track day on the 8th so ill try slowely to get used to it. I thought you pushing down on the low side leg ? is there a rule how far shopuld i be from the fuel tank ?

  • I watched this video then spent 20minutes on a roundabout and sure enough knee down!!!

  • no matter how hard i try i cant get the knee down on my blade.......... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • The thing that worries me most is the oil spills on the road. There seems to be loads where I live!

  • this vid worked wonders for me for cornering the only thing is with my daytona the peg kicks up if on my toes around a corner i think its because there race pegs but im sure my boots are contributing to this and pulling it up when i get into postion coming into a corner..

  • this video helped me get my knee down :P then i spent like 2 hours a night going around the roundabout lol but i did it. the only problem i get is that it feels like all my weight is on my right ankle and it hurts after a while anyone elsa get this ???

but saying that i did just watch the video again and i dont put my foot right on the end of the peg it is always very close to the bike mabey moving my foot will help

  • is it harder to get your knee down if the pegs are further forward?

  • I nearly got my knee down on my old Aerox scooter lol I shit myself. Good tips here, gonna bear it in mind for my R125

  • I can get my knee down now on my aprilia rs 50 i do it good now had one crash though i really dont know what i did wrong i think its becuz i was to far to the back by doing that im guessing ive put to much pressure on the back tire leading to a low sider

  • was one reason malc couldn't do it because he wasn't dropping his elbow out and loosening up?

  • Is there a difference in feel in left or right hand turn/corners?

From what i look and understand,my cornerspeeds are to high in combination with the angle and bodyposition.

Is a roundabout the best way to practice or is a fly-over with good curves also possible.

    Bike is an '98 s-rad.

  • iv read that it can be difficult to get your knee down by continually circling a roundabout as you can almost get stuck in the same position. I have a couple of roundabouts with a short stretch of road inbetween which I practice on - of course the main problem with this is you only practice on your right knee!!

  • for me it is the left :D one hehe

  • You wanna have the knee down all way around ;-)

  • i can do this on my aprillia sr50r ...scooter

  • Watched this wednesday night....... Knee down Thursday!!!!!! Gotta love roundabouts and the Revesby bends!!!!

  • just a tip guys dont try this on a 125's or 250cc well to this extent anyway , unless u have a good round big back tire you will probably crash ur bike...

  • I practiced today for about two hours. After I saw this clip. I did what he said and it worked perfect for me. After 30 minutes i had my first knee down. Later on a knee down all the way on the roundabout...I am very happy!!!

  • Lol third gear at 35mph on my bike wud stall!!! fucking shit asshole bullshit 125`s

  • Yeh i lent my yzf r125 to far and the front gave way!! no thanks to shitty front suspension thats softer than a sponge cake!! fucking shit bike! dont get one!

  • i want to do this on my aprilia rs, i've tried a bit, but not THAT low. is it smart with my wheels?

  • You can get your knee down with just about any bike as long as you do it properly. Just make sure not to push it too much, it'll come eventually. Don't worry about it.

  • no..get a truck

  • lmao... how tha fuck is he gonna do it in a truck?

    nice one.

  • Just spent 2 hours going in circles in a parking lot (with permission). Barely got my knee down in 3rd gear @ 29 mph (actual mph is less), 50 foot radius. Bumpy with up and down slope. Cop and private security drove by after a "noise" complaint (factory exhaust at 3000 rpm under 30 mph). Then speedo went blank from low voltage so maybe stator overheated & died (new stator under warantee). Softened bump/rebound 3 clicks, 30 psi hot F/R. No chicken strip on left side. Right turn more difficult.

  • didn't you heard the man? the most important thing is BODY POSITION!!!!!

  • ye i did, but without a good pair of tires you will crash, believe me i learned it the hard way after i saw that clip

  • the guy in the beginning said he was in 3rd gear going 35 mph? why not 1st or 2nd? its an R1. and toes on the pegs? what if you put the pegs in the middle of your feet?

  • If you listen he says you use a gear where there isn't immediate torque so you don't crash.

  • 3rd gear stops the bike from jerking back and forth in 1st and 2nd gear at low speed cornering when you make slight throttle adjustments. It is very smooth and forgiving to use a higher gear and keeps you on your corner line smooth and easy. Keeping your toes on the pegs tops your feet from scraping the road.

  • thanks, good answer! on my bike ive noticed in first gear, theres a point where the bike does jerk a lot. do you happen to know why this is?

  • It is due to a number of things. Torque of the motor used in conjunction with gearing of the gearbox, chain and sprockets and all governed by your throttle control. Its all put together this way so the bike is capable to accelerate fast but at the same time has strong engine breaking due to the ability of accelerating fast.

  • Well done in saying its Malarky , knee down doesnt mean your going to be faster...

  • I can get my knee down on my scooter! very easy hopefully ill be able to get it down on a bigger bike when im older, lol

  • What scooter? (brand, type)

  • a Honda X8R-S 50.. 02 model

  • omg, they should be scraping all way around

  • a rich old fool. all the gear no idea!!

  • I finally got my kd for the first time about 2 hours ago :-) thanks for the tips, it really helped. Cheer's.

  • good video -- audio quality is bad tho -- very hard to understand them the accents also compound things!

  • i got my face down once

  • you are funny?

  • @mickeyfinn80

    LOL!

  • @mickeyfinn80 HAHA u really very funny!

  • @mickeyfinn80 me a few times :D

  • @mickeyfinn80 lol:))

  • @mickeyfinn80 Hope you hadn't parted company with the bike when that happened :-)

  • Nice but if I could get my pegs to the deck like that guy I wouldn't even care if my knee was close to the tarmac or not!

  • y wouldnt u care? getting ur peg down is quite unsafe, it unsettles the bike quite a bit.

I personally think the knee down is only good for guaging how much ur leaning down, so u dnt lean down too much and scrape ur pegs.

  • Very true but most people seem to have an obsession with knee down to prove how far they can lean a bike - when really it's about being in the correct position to maintain stability.

  • I agree, but if ur body position is good, then ur knee would naturally hit the deck before the peg, depending on the bike ofc.

  • Good point

  • i had my knee down on my xr125l with pirelli mt 60 tyres and i have used all the right side of the tyre

  • I made it on a Honda 250cc single cilinder engine.

CBX 250 with the originals Pirelli 130/70 tires.

It's all about body position and speed.

  • malarcky

  • can I exercise that on a bicycle ? :P

  • There is a vid on youtube of a guy on a pedal bike dragging knee haha

  • I've drug pedal on my road bike. Thats scary as fuck.

  • you think they could have found a closed course to do this demo lol.....

  • HAHAHA Neeves face when Dave tried his bike! he was leaning in unpredictable levels

  • good video but quality is poor and time for new mics or sumthin. lol

  • isen't that iligal???

  • it is in VA to put your knee down

  • what is a VA ?????????????lololo

  • commonwealth of virginia ;)

  • lol no way

  • @jonataseuuk yes it is mate, It would have to be a really crappy policeman to give a fine and points for it, But because they view it as driving without due care and attention so they could get 3 points and £60 fine. But as i was told by a policeman it would have to be a really dodgy copper to do that most would probably give a warning as its down to there discretion

  • motorcyclenewsdotcom, should buysomefuckingnewmics!!

  • i remember i had my first knee down...I went down with my bike :(

  • hahah So did i, My sliders where scratched the 1st time the wrong way....

  • I'm doin ok on left handers, but on rights I just can't get it. I think it's something to do with turning in to early. Not to sure but it's really anoying

  • me too. its seems like my left turns dont dip as much and i dont feel as comfortable.

  • im the same, i can get left everytime but right handers take a few times, well alot of times, i was told once that if youre a right handed person its harder to turn right because your instincts are telling you to protect your right hand side, i have a left handed mate that can do right hand corners knee down but never have been able to do left turns

  • Try pulling on your left handlebar when you countersteer. it will give you better throttle control of your right hand

  • I'm left handed and for some reason I have all confidence going left and am deathly scared of cornering to the right. Maybe just me? lol
