For the first time tonight we hear these same screams. We never had foxes here until about two years ago when one ran right through the front yard and what was really funny was my cat was chasing it. Not long after I was able to get photos of it laying down in my back yard. Then I got a few more photos of it running around playing.
Im listening to that exact sound, and ive seen quite a few fox around the area that ive heard thay sound so I agree its a fox, and fox are not affraid to come up to areas where humans hav been because the college I work for has a dorm right where I found thw den of fox pups last summer along with houses
ok i woke up to this sound and got the crap scared out of me. so i took a flash light and went outside (probably not the best of choices...) and i didnt see anything so i was thinking a bobcat or fox.
I heard this for the first time a few days ago. It happened around 2 AM and I went outside to see what it was. I cought its eyes in the beam of my flashlight and she froze. My German Shepard tok advantage of this and was able to catch her from the side. She had no idea he was there until he hit her in full stride. It was very interesting for a few seconds until she finally got away. I was shocked that she came back the next night.
you sad you got attacked and knocked to the ground ,at elbow hight , well that rules the fox out than. foxes are dead scared of humans , they know to keep right away from us . how close are you to the forrest? are there any dogs alarmed by this call?? i am from down under , i spend a fair bid of time in the bush,i hear fox , koalas, possums and all sorts of other kritters , i have observed calls like that here , around my place and in the bush. i would say it not a fox .
My sister was attacked last night in a suburb in Illinois by some sort of screaming animal/whatever. The scream was consistent, and when it attacked her, it hit her in the elbow, and had enough force to knock her onto her flat on her face. She said she didn't feel any fur on her elbow when it hit, so that worried me, and there's the simple fact that any predator would have been silent approaching her, and wouldn't stop attacking. I don't think this was an animal, as the scream was continous.
@flamertamer15 get a gun and a flashlight and kill it. or just get a havaheart trap ( which will not harm nor kill what ever it is) its pry a coyote. foxes will not go near people let alone attack them. if there is a coyote... kill it and as many others as you can. they are a nuisance, and are extremely dangerous in large numbers. a .22 can kill them but i prefer a 30-30 just to make sure. anything more and its overkill.(heck the 30-30 is pushing it.)
omg! my mom just sent me out to get the mail at 10:30 pm, and i heard that while it was pitch dark and i was trippin on a low blood sugar. i was scared to say the least
My whole body was tingling as it was bow season and all I had to defend myself with was my knife and a single bulb led flashlight. After I was safely 30 feet in the tree my dad called me on the radio and said "what the hell was that"? Joking I said it was probably Bigfoot. It when running into the brush as I ran as fast as I could in the other direction. Check out the fox cry on youtube.
This could also be a fox scream. I am an avid outdoorsman and last year during hunting season while going to my treestand in the dark I heard the same noise. Needless to stay I probably set the world record for tree climbing in thre dark. I heard foot steps coming down the logging road and the ground was wet which made a squishing noise. I thought it was my dad so I said "hey pop what's up" and then it let out a scream 15 yards in front of me. I whipped out my knife and ran like hell. Continued
I was recently campin with my bros and we heard a bobcat scream, its like one of the most disturbing things ive ever heard, especially when its pitch black. Sounds like somebody getting murdered, very creepy
i was just told that there have been bobcat sightings near my house so im trying to learn more about them especially what they sound like! IM SO FREAKED OUT!

Could be a fox, as I've no clue what variety of sounds they make; this is NOT a bobcat, that's for sure and certain.

It isn't a bobcat it sounds to dog like which means it's most likely to be a fox
