  • Good on ya mate. Once I thoght that only me and John Morris ( in Oz ) knew how to play some Blake or to of even have heard of him ( but that's Australia for you ). Thankfully this seems to have been rectified. There may be fancier chords after his time but he is incredible, That playing you did was vrey good

  • @gregluland Thanks for the comment, I dont try and copy -otherwise you may as well just listen to the originals!-and I keep meaning to put up a better recording, will get round to it one day, enjoyable piece to play and I'm attached to vid cos it was the first one I'd done on UTube. Have a G'day, Andy

  • if we could all play guitar like you Mr Ray Winston im god damn sure we would.

  • Hi Elven, will be uploading some stuff soon but have no plans for'instructional' stuff -to be honest I'm a bit embarrassed by making out I can show people how to play- hope you are still pickin!

  • Hello again, Andy ;-)

What on earth happened to that great video of yours about how to play Hands of Joseph by Ralph McTell ?!?! I miss it ;-)

Slowly gettting better here ... but still nice to watch and to learn from you.

  • Hey Elven, its really good to hear from you, dont know about this video or its whereabouts I'm afraid. i am going to post some stuff soon, but i have been working on an album, something i've wanted to do for a while now, and moving house! Just not enough time for the things you love doing I'm afraid- music is like that, so vast not enough time to enjoy and create -take care , andy

  • Great - nice talking again, Andy.

    Srry about the delayed reply.

(ElvenDane here - my normal account is suspended)

Yes, sometimes unimportant things like those will come up and disturb your playing :-)

A bit of a shame about that video, because it was really good to learn from

( easy to see from that angle) and well explained.

Any chance you could locate it again and reupload it, WHEN you have the time?

I used to have it on my external HD, but it has given up recently :-(

  • awesome!!!

    I wanna play like you.

    Thank you for posting.

  • Hey Man you play that stuff far better than me!!

You got the Blind Blake feel/thumb roll thing, I just dont bother too much with that, I'm a lazy player. Keep in touch and send me your vids my friend, take good care Andy

  • Man you rock, that was just great !!

If I only had 1 tenth of your talent

  • Thank you sejsey, am so pleased you enjoyed it. I have just (hope!) got a camcorder rigged up and will be putting some stuff on over the next few days. Take care, Andy.

  • Love it - one of favourites among Ralph's repertoire.

Please, keep up the great picking ;-)

How long did it take you to get it to "sit" that well ?

How about Hands of Joseph - another fantastic Ralph song - ?

Do you by any chance have a tab of this

    amazing instrumental ragtime piece ?

  • Elven, so glad you enjoyed it! Have played this stuff for many years, cant read music, hate 'tab' but use pickin method of separating finger and thumb and playing almost piano like. Will fix up camcorder to give better quality and will put more stuff on (like h of J), even 'break it down' on film if any one wishes.Check out Tommy Emmanuel, he's God! Will put some of my TE versions on shortly, take care Andy

  • OK, thank you, Andy - really looking forward to that.

You forgot to tell me how long it took to get it just right - forever presumably ? ;-)

Yes, I shall check him out - heard his name, but don't know much about him.

Yes, I do know that style you describe - I play some easier pieces and attempting That'll Do Babe, Hands of Joseph and Nettle Wine at the moment.

  • You may also want to check out "LeonMitch"'s and "ichingiching" 's videos here - they do several covers of Ralph's other stuff.

And don't forget to check out all the wonderful clips (30+) from the mid 80's TV series for young children called "Tickle on the Tum". Several wonderful songs and many a great laugh among those.
