  • its in the tree square lol

  • No Soviet Union? :)

  • More like Hans "Zimmerframe" because this is some grandpa ass quiz.

  • Hans zimmer was behind this track......Speechless. You gotta start somewhere I guess!

  • what a pile of wank that was!...when I heard that music it was time to reach for the remote control.

  • i hope this isnt the Olympic soundtrack :|

  • "that thing paid my rent for the longest time!"

    haha love this.

  • Nice to see the UK stretching the rules to get 4 contestants in. Ha ha, jammy fuckers.

  • Henry Kelly once puched my brother in the throat.

  • this doesnt even seem reall

  • Ah, our European neighbours!!

  • Wow, from this to Backdraft and The Dark Knight. Just shows you gotta start somewhere.

  • was this shown in other countries around europe, i still remember it.pmsl

  • "What is my name?"

    *Beep*

    Henry Kelly?

    No Hans...

  • whenever I was off sick from school I just loved "going for gold"

  • TUNE!

  • what aM i im a irish man with a dodgy accent

  • Wor Henry's muttering "F**k my life, not this s**t again" just before the professional smile and warm welcome.

  • @andrew1984uk Just what I was thinking.

  • @andrew1984uk I actually laughed harder at your comment than i did at the video - which was quite an achievement. Thanks for brightening my lunch hour

  • @ReverendFrogF1

    :-) More than welcome.

  • You were one of these things whilst watching this programme:

    1. Bunking off school

    2. Off school because you were sick

    3. On school holidays

    4: Unemployed

  • @HammerLex77

    5: Being with your baby-sitter

  • @HammerLex77

Or it was your day off work.

  • I MADE THE BBC!!!

  • @MUFC127

Relapse....that's when they're at their most dangerous.

  • @andrew1984uk LOL!!! Ohhh what a shower of BASTARDS!!! Oul Henry had a dramatic fall from grace since the glory days on Going for Gold.

  • JX23 sent me!

  • Henry Kelly is talking to himself as he comes out.

  • I used to watch this twice a day during the school holidays.

  • Henry mutters something probably like "crap I got a bloody hangover" before the lights and he puts on his presenter smile.

  • @webboffin ... just when he hears "20 seconds on titles, stand by studio... 10...9...8...7...6..5..4.. cue Henry..3..2..1" on talkback..

  • this reminds me of being off school (pretending to be) sick

  • that one dislike likes licking Congressmen's balls.

  • Hans brought me here

  • lol Hans Zimmer sent me!

  • This brings it back...Going home for lunch then making a mad dash to get back for afternoon registration

  • @jacksiin1000 Haha, yes, or simply just not going to school at all because you're ' ill' .

  • I wonder what Henry Kelly is muttering as he walks in just before the spotlight hits him...

  • i remember endless reminders of the star prize of panning for gold in some far flung destination, and also that the contestants kept having to come back for the rest of the week if they lost.

  • So so crap and yet brilliant, probably more amazing than anything that has come before and after... the question is "Are you happy and ready to play?" I know I am "And why don't you come too"

  • Notice at the beginning that the map of Europe does not include France, Italy, Spain and basically all the Latin countries that either can't speak English or don't want to.

  • Proof that everyone has to start somewhere, somehow, and we learn on the way. To Hans Zimmer!!

  • i remember the theme to this and watchin it as well

  • Ahh haaaaa!

  • this is a classic show i used to watch this as a kid

  • I never knew Hans Zimmer wrote this!!

  • ah now your playing Ketchup.

  • I'M HENRY SELLERS!!!!! I MADE THE BBC!!!

  • dutch or norwegian look it up its on the web you stupid nonce mr minimalist1984

  • Comment removed

  • the dutch bkloke who won series 2 ended up in jail for 30 yesrs for trying to shoot the ex king of hollond

  • @vania1013 What a load of rubbish. Series 2 was won by Norweigan, Erik Matteson, and the Netherlands or 'hollond' as you say hasn't had a king since 1890.

  • Please check out Go for Gold by Tokyo Rose

  • @ClydeCash2011 wow had no idea going for gold had so many racist fans

  • This was far better than the recent attempt to revive it. Nobody is up to the challenge of replacing Henry Kelly.

  • @Cancerape fuck off and get a clue you retarded racist

  • @lickstickly NO U

  • @Cancerape A fucking racist nutter watching Going for Gold, where the fuck is the connection there?

  • Hes saying to himself b4 the spotlight hits im an interesting man im an interesting man.

  • These were the days. Off sick from school with the duvet on the sofa and a bottle of Lucazade near by from my nan to build my strength up.

  • @19STU84

Off school? Pah.. this was the university years for me. I remember coming down from a particularly powerful acid trip, when someone turned on the telly and the first thing I heard was Kelly's cheery brogue stating "Oi am an element present in all things". Totally f-ed with my head, I can tell you.

    Didier Partouche!

  • @19STU84 .....and that was when you bought Lucozade from a Chemists shop, not a supermarket. With the foil round the top. I would also add Pebble Mill to this category of programs watched when ill. Maybe add Give us a Clue with lionel Blair as well.

  • @ullapoolposse Yeap...and then either Flying Doctors or A Country Practice about the aussie outback vets. I was off school for a week during the flu epidemic in the early 90's - story line about a sick donkey and to this day I don't know how it eneded ( I recovered before the donkey did lol).

  • @solay78 the Donkey was healed sufficiently to stand trial for crimes against humanity, was found guilty, given the death penalty, was taken to a place of execution and Hung like a donkey... But his ghost lives on! ;-)

  • @ullapoolposse Yep, you're quite right. I feel sorry for the poor people who get ill now and have to stay at home and watch rubbish like Jeremy Kyle, Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, homes under the Hammer and Loose Women. We were actually rather spoiled back then and didn't know it. (Pss I was off recovering from an operation and decided to switch my brain off so I watched normal daytime tv for a couple of days).

  • @ullapoolposse I remember faking an illness and taking the day off school. It was about 1991 and everything was going sweet until Going for Gold made an appearence on the tellybox. Five minutes into the programme, i decided to help myself to the whisky, vodka and green stuff in my dad's drinks cabinet. I got proper fucked. My 'then' girlfriend came over and found me slumped on the floor with puke coming out of my nose. I was taken to hospital and had my stomach pumped. I blame Henry Kelly.

  • @19STU84

    Are we related?? haha

  • I can't believe that I remember all the words from the opening theme!

  • Brings back memories. Thanks. :)

  • Hans Zimmer composer of Gladiator and Inception made this. I'm sure theres a bit of genius in there somewhere.. if you listen really really hard!

  • Love Henry Kelly speaking to himself before spotlight hits him: "You can do it Kelly; you can do it!"

  • Hans Zimmer score

  • They asked the questions in English and we STILL got our arses handed to us by the mainland Europeans :-/.

  • Yep off school sick watching going for gold, the good old days!

  • this is composed by hanz zimmer

  • Come on the England!!

    Come on the Scotland!!!

    Come on the Wales!!!

    Come on the........Luxembourg??? LOL

  • @LollieSmith Most of the time I was off school skiving when I got to watch it,lol

  • looking back at it now; EU propaganda?

  • After having to endure this on the tv when I was off sick, I think I remember eventually begging my mum to send me back to school

  • Yea right nostaliga, you were either unemployed off school sick!

  • Who is Henry Kelly talking to when he is walking on to the stage?

  • Oh my days i forgot about this. Always on when I got home from school lol.

  • Another classic by Hans Zimmer!

  • @Henderman312 iawnnnnnnnnnnnnn lol

  • I remember I used to cry as a little kid when there was no-one from Wales on the show!

  • @garynysmon iawnnnnnnnnn lol

  • yes this was Hans Zimmer's start off career!

    Believe it or not!!

  • THE HEAT IS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @LollieSmith Or skipping school lol

  • does it get any better? Simply wonderful day time entertainment from an era when things were simple

  • Put your hand up if you came to watch this quiz show video because you read on WIkipedia that the god father of hollywood movie soundtracks ' Hans Zimmer ' created this theme ?

And yes, I am as shocked as you were to read it, but I guess everyones career has to start somewhere...

Actually, I like this theme tune more than his Rain Man, Lion King, Gladiatior, Batman Begins, The Dark Kight, Pirates Of The Caribbean 1,2 and 3 and Inception themes ( just kidding lol ).

  • I love it when Henry Kelley's walking in profile. Looks like he's shitting himself. "Come on Henry you can do it."

  • the even funnier thing is that the money from this kept hans zimmer going for a long time

  • This show proves the UK should have left the EU a long time ago ;)

  • looks like he is muttering to himself "same old sh*t everyday"

  • agreed five should have kept with the original format.

  • @LollieSmith hahah yes!!! It reminds me of being off sick or holidays. So did Key-Notes

  • Hans Zimmer, just wow...

  • I can't believe this was written by Hans Zimmer

  • What am I ?.. You're a cunt Henry thats what.

  • Fuck me sideways with a cactus, who knew people in the Eighties were so terrifyingly UGLY???

  • This used to be on after neighbours in the afternoon

  • Only quiz show that was an international competition.

  • And the first winner - Daphne Fowler - has gone on to be an Egghead in the BBC2 show 8-)

  • Going for Gold! This is our expression/ in-joke for people who come into my shop and buys lots of slimming tea/laxative tea! LOL

  • @nath909

    That's Family Fortunes chor.

  • its years since i seen this. i loved this show!!

  • Come on England!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • class.

  • hans zimmer (composer many huge blockbusters) wrote this song

  • @LollieSmith Ha ha so true. Trying not to look jubilant under the duvet on the couch, keeping the ill look going for maybe another day off.

  • @DaveWBedford

Yea, i did the same. But when i was really ill my mum would never believe me, lol. :---(

  • I wouldnt miss a single show during half-term. Ox Tales and Going for Gold. Memories.

  • they look like a bunch of pervert fucks !

  • @LollieSmith Oh, bloody hell, you've JUST described my childhood! :-D

  • Going for Gold, Supermarket Sweep, This Morning - All classic 'off sick from school' tele!

  • I only got to watch this when it was the school holidays or i was off ill, but it certainly brightened up my afternoons for a bit.

  • Henry Kelly all muttering to himself as he walks on stage... lol. Mr. Luxembourg is so cool.

  • I remeber watching this with my mum, my dad and my brother back in the late 80s

  • Eurovision in quiz form!

  • Why were there never any contestants from Italy, Spain, Greec etc?

  • Hans Zimmer composed this!

  • i love that stage, and the awkwardness of the people at the start. plus when they used to have people on who couldnt speak english

  • A legendary theme tune! Thanks for taking me back down memory lane.

  • @LollieSmith So true!

  • classic :) grew up watching this and always enjoyed the catchy theme tune

  • @LollieSmith So true Lollie! Skiving school watching this at my Gran's house :D

  • So hang on... all the questions were in English and the English contestants STILL got their arses handed to them on a daily basis by people who were competing in a second language? Christ :(.

  • This was the hardest fecking game every made. They NEVER got past the second sand box question thing. Used to watch this during summer hols off school lol. Christ I'm old

  • I used to hope that one day he wouldn't say "you're playing catch up" when someone went behind.

  • watched this as a kid, always loved the tune lol

  • Freaking superb!

  • I used to love this and was really chuffed when they brought it back last year.

Until I realised half the show was a phone-in quiz and it was hosted by a corpse.

Henry Kelly would be spinning in his grave if he saw the new version. :D

  • He would if he was dead!

  • @darrowby1972

Yes, in our hearts, he's still alive.

  • Except that Henry Kelly isn't dead.

  • @SultanChase

    (Only joking)

  • Composed by Hans Zimmer, Hollywood's biggest composer. We all have to start somewhere I guess!

  • LOL, oh man this takes me back. I used to see this when ever i was home from primary school.I never watched it to the end though- the amazing theme tune, and the (then) fancy computer graphics in the intro lured me in, but the show quickly bored me.

  • Comment removed

  • When they bought this back on FIVE last year, they should have got a host with a LITTLE more energy and done less of that rip-off phone-in shit.

  • GFG is on French TV under a different name"Questions Pour Les Champions" but it's the same format

  • This reminds me of being of sick or teachers inset days,, always loved em,, knots landing used to be on afterwards too which was another great afternoon show

  • haha i love this theme! Henry Kelly rules!

  • lols that is actually one of the funniest and truest comments ever posted on youtube.

  • Play or pass? What am I muttering as I come onto the stage?!!

  • He is saying "I used to be a renowned journalist for the Irish Times and now I'm reduced to this crap!"

  • i remember sitting on mummys knee and watching this every afternoon when i was a toddler aww

  • the original version was far better than the crap new version on five

  • i didn't even know it had been revived. low key man.

  • gr8 show.

love the who am i bit...

  • jaaa Danmark 00:26

  • after neighbours in an afternoon... henry kelly... Who am I???

  • Its a lunch time during half term around 1991, hello Henry Kelly!

  • Hans 'Pirates, Batman Begins/Dark Knight' Zimmer composed this? hard to believe...

  • You think that's weird, KnightRider's Larson/Philips composed Lutricia McNeal's "Ain't That Just the Way"!

    True.

  • Hans... Zimmer?...

Empire magazine and Wikipedia say it is, so it must be...

    but still.. Hans Zimmer?

  • ZOMG that's a Hans Zimmer song?!? NO WAY!!

  • They should never have brought it back if it was gonna be as sterile as it is on channel 5!

The original will always be the best.

  • Look how small Europe used to be

  • that was the days before asia was part of europe

  • I think those are just the countries who could be arsed to play...
