Así..así debe ser EL ......y al tenerlo frente ami abriendo la puerta de su alma junto a la mía para ir por el tortuoso camino que ya no será tan tortuoso....
The Beatles Split up becouse they reached the top of the top. The made magic in 6 years, they got everything in 6 years!! and when a band reaches their top point, they just slip up.
I so prefer this version to the over blown one with the orchestral backing. As for Paul v John let it go guys. They were both talented in their own way and gave and still give joy to many people.
I often think about why Lennon gave McCartney such a hard time, it erk's me, cause Paul seems so nice, generous, & down to earth,. I think he [John]was not used to being around someone who matched his talent, sense of humor, & wit. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but most of the stress in their relationship seemed imo to come from John's insecurity!
@rf3811 Yes man but you have to remember that John was the band leader, the eldest, the most confident and the spokesman for the band. He saw Paul as his very talented younger brother. But when Paul grew up and challenged him then sadly the divisions grew. It is tragic in that if John were still alive then they could have been so brilliant together again and resolved their differences :(
@steveevh1To me, A true "leader" sees talent, & is so confident, you want to enrich that talent, cultivate it, & help it grow, because this will create success, love, happiness, and people fulfilling their max potential as souls upon this earth! John was stuck, his ego was in the way, he was jealous! I could be wrong, bur from everything I have seen and heard, John seemed angry about Paul's talent, where Paul seemed happy to share credit with everyone. would love more insight from you & others.
@rf3811 You have a good point and I agree with you so much but I do not think it is as simple as that. John was and ikon and a leader for his generation but when he saw Paul he knew he had to up his game. The Beatles were the combination of the brilliance of those two guys but they grew apart. John was the more confident one but Paul was the more musically talented. When Paul matured and became more confident then John should have accepted Paul as an equal but his ego did not let him very sad :(
@steveevh1@rf3811 I totally agree. So sad that John was such a pitiful, hateful person. You can only find misery in that path. At least he found comfort in Yoko but at the cost of losing beautiful people like Paul and Julian.
@rf3811 It is so very very sad that The Beatles did a lot of their best work whilst the band was disintegrating and on borrowed time, Sadly we will never know now. :(
@kmc56 Your comment confirms my last comment regarding John, and my feeling that he was intimidated by Paul! What a "Hater" remark by someone preaching peace & love! I think he was jealous! This song is just as beautiful as "Imagine" imo, and the more I think of how John behaved regarding Paul, he actually reminds me of a "mean girl", [as a boy] I have seen footage where he clearly tries to get the other 2 or anyone he can influence to join in on the rally against Paul! Jealousy is so ugly!
If Paul would have died instead of John, all the arguments would be flipped... Get over it...
The fact of the matter is, John barely tried in the end... Paul had a whole other career after John... When they met, Paul had to show John how to tune his guitar... Just sayin'...
@thedirtygoat I agree that Paul was more musically talented but you have to remember that Paul's lyrics were rubbish just abstract stuff that came into his head. John was the band leader and wrote very profound "Poetry". The great working relationship was that John was the more confident Ikon and he viewed Paul as the more musically talented little brother that he never had. The problems arose when Paul got older and gained the confidence that John had and said "Hey - I am the talent here" Sad X
@thedirtygoat Also you have to listen to "Double Fantasy" which is John's greatest work since The Beatles released shortly before his death. It is ironic that his best work after the Beatles came shortly before his death. Dont get me wrong I love Paul and I love John Lennon. It is perhaps fitting that they will not be able to get back together for a "Money Spinning" album and tour like the rest of the Stadium bands. I think John would have wanted it this way. Love and Peace man XX
@MyDreamside - You are so right with what you say. John was the great band leader - strong personality that people listened to and Paul was the musically more talented little brother that he never had. Paul looked up to John's brilliant profound lyrics and his prescence as a spokesman for the 60's generation. John was slightly jealous of Paul's (slightly) better musical ability but together they were the greatest songwriting partnership ever, they inspired each other.
@MyDreamside - I dont know what happened exactly but it seems to have been Paul maybe thinking that "Well hang on John takes all the credit but I am the major talent here" having grown in confidence. I may be wrong but drugs and wives and other situations didn't help. Also Paul was not consulted about Phil "Phsycho" Spector camping the song up, that was the nail in the coffin. Spector's version was brilliant y but Paul felt betrayed and I dont think his gentle vocal was suited for that version
this (beautiful songs) they used like the best equipment of the age (FENDER) they were on acid in the movie "Yellow Submarine" once a friend of my explain me that that was like "acid stuff" Rolling stone were more crazy they had the black guys and they were like crazier but still i prefer The beatles over anything.
The beatles had like ten years of being famous like the best group of the century they were chose, (elvis presley the best rock solo-singer) people magazine they chose the best of the century then they chose beatles like the best group as i said, the beatles did like EVERYTHING where the rolling stones for example were staying on one style which was like just ROCK ROCK, CLASSIC ROCK, the beatles used so much styles of music, they kept changing like from certain rock to other rock to music like
lets not fight over Yoko or anything under a video of the greatest band to walk the earth and will never be surpassed! lets follow what they wanted to get across to our foresaken world ....PEACE AND LOVE!!!! (:
this is the perfect ending song of the beatles... they may be done, but each member had a long and winding road ahead of them, the beatles may be gone as a band, but their music will be here forever
Everyone had that love that just didn't quite work out. Whether it was timing or circumstance things just didn't gel and she (he) left you. The memories come back and haunt you only to bring a tear that can do nothing to return a chance for it to work.....but still they they pull your thoughts back to that time.
so McCartney hated what Spector did to his song? i like it, think it is very lovely. maybe a BIT overblown with the backup choir, but otherwise nice. i have never heard the other version without the Spector production so don't know if its better or not.
The meaning of the song is open to interpretaon, but I read once where Paul simplified this song in a nutshell as "an expression of the way it feels to leave things unfinished" (about life in general or the Beatles breaking up is also unceratain)
Young and dumb!!!!John was in love and very happy...When you grow up you will "comprehend" a different kind of love..not just the one that inflates your ego or that gives you a "rise" all of this talk is immaturity~~~~get over it~~she didn't make him do anything he already wanted for himself..I bet you have no idea what unconditional love is!!!
im dying to see nowhere boy! i cant stop thinking about it. i love the beatles to death and no other band can even compare. u will forever be missed:(
@MichaelJfanatic Nowhere Boy is on youtube. It's a very touching movie, though it has no Beatles songs and exagerates some stuff and makes up some events that never happened at all of course. overall, it was amazing- nearly brings tears at some parts.
@calakarak mmmm no comments :P I mean... "gustos son gustos" XD I have my ideas to hate Paul, maybe i'm wrong or not...but i can't like him in anyway... :) the beatles are cool....
Nothing tests the human spirit as much as loss, and this song conveys the pain of it. As human beings we are touched because we identify with it, and this song brings us to it emotionally. It is one of those rare gems that is able to deliver you to a special place within your soul. A memory, a yearning, a loss, a something that maybe should have been, or maybe even a triumph to reflect on.
@wire4paladin You must be a Paladin...During a dream I just had, she was still alive, it was such a great dream, we talked it seemed for hours, waking I felt terrible, the first thing I did was come and listen to this song. Your comment, brought me some comfort, it was lovely...PEACE AND LOVE
@radioheadkids2 I am sorry for your loss, my friend. "The human condition" is an incredible journey; at times we soar with the eagles, yet often find ourselves in the lowest of valleys. I empathize with you, and hope that your journey brings you back to a place of healing, happiness, and love. God Bless!!!
@wire4paladin Never in history has a "pop" group produced so much beautiful and groundbreaking music (Yes I agree with George Martin - a genious as well). I dont think that we will ever see the like and talent of the Beatles again
This is probably the sadest song song ever by the Beatles. It was the last song they did together before they split and before the deaths of the Great John Lennon and the ever charming George Harrison. I feel great sadness when i hear this and its such a beautiful song too. RIP You guys and i hoping to hear from you again when I die.
I like the song very much that I listened to it for countless of times. It is a romantic love song. It gives you that feeling of melancholia of the times gone past. I can picture out a boy begging for his beloved to take him in to her life. More power to you Paul, please write more songs of this genre.
This was probably the last song they recorded as The Beatles. Notice Billy Preston on the organ. They brought Billy in when they needed to shield each other from themselves. He was such a good guy they didn't want to fight in front of him. Also, John playing bass. Paul, of course, on the piano.
It's a very deep song. Look at the sadness in the eyes of the four lads from Liverpool. They all knew they were about to end. The Beatles would end on the other year. They already weren't going well. But still, they didn't lose the power to make magic in music.
Thanks to my collaboration with Cynthia Drummond, this song will always remind me of Gary Balzhiser's 25th at 50. That was something......what memories
He changed my favorite lyrics from this version...Many times I've been alone and many times I've cried. Anyway, you've always known the many ways I've tried.
to
Anyway, you'll never know the many ways I've tried... nice improvement (by John) ?
@fishmonde Actually, this is Paul's original version. The take with the alternate lyric was done later and that's the take that Phil Spector ruined with his "wall of sound" method of record production. This version is the one included on the album"Let It Be (Naked)".
I remember I had just returned from Vietnam and was sitting in a bar on a secret naval base. Some one played this song on the juckbox, and i knew at that moment that the Beatles were breaking up. It touch me very much. I'm not ashemed to say that several tears ran down my checks.
@revgriz Thanks for sharing that fella. Nice to hear that someone had a moment as I did ,for the same reason, at the same time, that this song brings back. I was 10. just moved to a new town, new school. I sat with a small radio, on my own on my first dayat school and this came on. I had been warned it was a prelude to the Beatles break up and it brought me to tears also.
Great, tuneful, thoughtful ballad! (Take THAT, people who say the Beatles were only a lot of raucus noise!) When the Beatles got their OBEs, some people said that if these medals were given to the BEATLES, that they would give their own medals back! But the Queen gave the Beatles their medals anyway. The Queen is more "with-it" than many people know!
@mickeyelsalsero yes, that was Billy Preston on the Keyboards. One of the very few outsiders that ever joined in playing and recording with the Beatles, I think George would bring both Eric Clapton and Billy in when they needed an extra keyboard or guitar player, John brought Yoko in, I don't remember Paul or Ringo bringing in anyone but I think they all approved on Billy and Eric being there, John just brought her in without asking for approval, that's when John's head got too big for the band!
That Yoke is a waste... WTF is she doing there? This was written at a very difficult time in the relationship with John and Paul. I've actually heard Paul wrote this song about John, and how they had really gone separate ways at the time. I think we all know Oh No certainly had way more influence over JL than should have ever been. Totally love this stripped down version
Better than Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I've heard that song was the inspiration for then to write this song. That song was slow moving and they were provoked to write something along those lines.
God this is so much better than the released version. The Phil Spector version wasn't necessarily terrible... I have to admit some of the orchestral swells almost bring a tear to the eye.
But this version, with it's return to the (sans Billy Preston) original group, just has more PASSION. It's beautiful, more melancholy and is overall a much, much better song.
I credit the Beatles for the music video concept. I can see Yoko sitting there ominously as if she knew they were soon going their separate ways. Many folks blame her for the break up but John was always trying to find himself and he was a very conflicted soul while Paul was sure that he wanted the fame to continue. This was the cause of the break up. Paul wrote these ballad and John experimented with different sounds which were not too commercial.
The first time I listened to this song from the radio the night my father, which he said, casually sitting on the bench while listening to the radio, I was remembering my father.
@calalilygirl NOT ONEof their best, the best. The last appearance of the boys together before the split. halcyon days, to grow up in the sixties, for me looking back, was a privelage.
I never could get past the look on their faces here and the words to this song. Ya know..I know everyone will call me an idiot..but I never thought they were the same after 1966. Not that they weren't good but they were different, I have always wondered about the Paul dying thing, just listen to these words. And even to the end Paul in a different color background. They seemed so tortured from Sgt. Peppers on and just so different. I expect the harsh comments, cont...
but I loved these guys pre66 and after. I never cared if Paul was gone and then substituted because I loved those Beatles too. I have looked back on what society needed to get done and wonder if his death might have stopped the revolution that the Beatles were bringing. So much happened that led to money making propositions for the upper crust. Then after they got what they needed they took out the ones that might just let it go one day. Hell, I don't know, But I do know I Love The Beatles!!!!
im not gonna say i hate the "spector version" because i dont.... what i will say is that wikipedia states earlier versions such as this one sound more like something the beatles would release, and not the orchestra version, which i can acknowledge, this is beautiful, and phil spector's reason for changing it, (lennon's bass sounding bad) is pure BS, but, as i said, i dont hate the other version, but i can see how this is better
Gah this song just reminds me of the past...my parents would always play The Beatles in my van as we drove to places...this song brings back so many happy memories

Dordracnor 1 year ago 2
I like the song very much that I listened to it for countless of times. It is a romantic love song. It gives you that feeling of melancholia of the times gone past. I can picture out a boy begging for his beloved to take him in to her life. More power to you Paul, please write more songs of this genre.
qsdeseliva 1 year ago
This was probably the last song they recorded as The Beatles. Notice Billy Preston on the organ. They brought Billy in when they needed to shield each other from themselves. He was such a good guy they didn't want to fight in front of him. Also, John playing bass. Paul, of course, on the piano.

Have followed this road many times. In fact, all my life. I love this song. One of their best.
TheBluesDixonary 1 year ago
It's a very deep song. Look at the sadness in the eyes of the four lads from Liverpool. They all knew they were about to end. The Beatles would end on the other year. They already weren't going well. But still, they didn't lose the power to make magic in music.

Anyway, you'll never know the many ways I've tried... nice improvement (by John) ?
fishmonde 1 year ago
@fishmonde Actually, this is Paul's original version. The take with the alternate lyric was done later and that's the take that Phil Spector ruined with his "wall of sound" method of record production. This version is the one included on the album"Let It Be (Naked)".
chuckiejay 1 year ago
Where was George Martin at the time of Let It Be's editing? I find this easy to cover than Phil Spector's fancy sound effects.

I remember I had just returned from Vietnam and was sitting in a bar on a secret naval base. Some one played this song on the juckbox, and i knew at that moment that the Beatles were breaking up. It touch me very much. I'm not ashemed to say that several tears ran down my checks.
revgriz 1 year ago

The Queen is more "with-it" than many people know!

billy preston?
mickeyelsalsero 1 year ago

It's beautiful, more melancholy and is overall a much, much better song.

butrflzjess 2 years ago 2
I credit the Beatles for the music video concept. I can see Yoko sitting there ominously as if she knew they were soon going their separate ways. Many folks blame her for the break up but John was always trying to find himself and he was a very conflicted soul while Paul was sure that he wanted the fame to continue. This was the cause of the break up. Paul wrote these ballad and John experimented with different sounds which were not too commercial.

Krazede 2 years ago
im not gonna say i hate the "spector version" because i dont.... what i will say is that wikipedia states earlier versions such as this one sound more like something the beatles would release, and not the orchestra version, which i can acknowledge, this is beautiful, and phil spector's reason for changing it, (lennon's bass sounding bad) is pure BS, but, as i said, i dont hate the other version, but i can see how this is better
