Bones are really only an issue when they are cooked. Once cooked they are stiff and they splinter. Raw bones are safe for dogs when you are concerned about choking. The only issue I've run into is if the dog swallows larger chunks of bone they have to regurgitate them again.
like i told the other person, what do you think those canines are for? tigers, lions, wolves, etc. all have canines and they all eat meat. you were born at the wrong time. if you were born centries ago. all dogs would still be eating raw meat.
What about parasites, can a dog get parasites from eating raw food? Eating bones from a bird, do they digest properly, what about the bones splintering and causing problems?
This is awesome to see. I feed my Great Dane pup and my pug a raw/prey diet and they are healthy, happy and mentally stable pups! I have the videos posted on here but get 2-3 NASTY comments a day about how I feed. I wish people would learn a little before judging. This is REAL dog food- Great Job!
Hi im just looking into feeding my golden retriever raw foods and i got a question. After feeding the dog chicken raw do you have to brush the teeth because of the samonela? And when feeding how do you know which days to give what foods?Or do you just feed chicken every day with some liver on occasion? Thanks
I wouldn't feed chicken everyday. Switch it up with a hamburger/vegetable mix. I feed chicken one meal and then red meat the other meal and the red meat has veggies and supplements in it.
As far as samonela, it's not a worry with dogs. My dogs will eat some pretty racid stuff without any issues.
I feed my GS/Husky Raw and have seen a big turn around in their coats, no itching/scratching, energy level is higher, and they love their raw chicken (yes, with the bones). Their teeth are white & clean as well.
well,i'm not sure.but,i won't be fedding my puppy any raw aniamls like that.she eats regular dog food.but,i guess i'll try.but,i have to ask my mom to by chicken leg parts from wal mart!but, enteresting video!
I've started feeding raw meaty bones & carcass to my foster pit bull terrier. I'm using primarily rabbit/poultry from local farms or the organic co op and cost sure gets high, maybe I should hook up w/a hunter for the left overs. I'd like to use venison.
yep...a hunter would be a good source for meat. There are also a fair number of bird breeders that you might get carcasses from. If there is a local hunting dog club you can get the carcasses of the training birds they use.
PLUS, you can tell all idiots that dogs were WILD before they were domesticated by humans. And what the hell do you think they ate?? Well, I know one thing's for sure, there wasn't a bag of dog food sitting out for them out there in the wild.
I dont have any scientific data that says thats bad for them but I have trained several dozens of dogs and the first time your dog lays down to eat the bird instead of retreiving it you will realize what you have done.
Hasn't been a problem for any of my dogs. The dogs learn the difference. Feeding time is feeding time and retreiving is retreiving. I would believe that there could be dogs that won't seperate but those in my experience are few and far between.
ok what is wrong with you people!!! First of all raw meat is bad for dogs and second fowl(which is what that dog is eating) is extremely bad bird bones splinter in a dogs stomach. And its just sick
Actually you are incorrect...or just trying to stir the pot. You need to talk with a Vet. and get the correct information. Bones are a natural part of a dogs diet...read below...they only splinter if they are cooked. Raw is the best diet...period!
Your right raw meet is the best! Every autumn I feed my birddogs raw moose mixed whit ordinary dry dog food, almost every day as I also hunt moose. It's the only whey to keep them in great shape al hunting season!! Her in Sweden theirs a saying that one shodent feed dogs meat beginning whit "F"(because of their bones splinter sharp?) the Swedish words fore : sheep, fish & bird begins with a F, probably wrong. Il start feeding my dogs birdrests now. Thanks
Dark- Since WHEN? Tell me raw meat suddenly became bad for dog?
one - dogs not humans therefore dogs can digest raw meat a 100% better than they can kibble Kibble sits in a dogs stomach for up to 8 hours because most of it is indigestible.
two - only cooked bones splinter, heat damages the integrity of bones. Take a bone in chicken breast and remove one of the ribs. Compared to a cooked bones it is much more flexible and softer.
The only bones a dogs shouldn't get are cooked and weight bearing
Theres nothing wrong with feeding a natural diet, aslong as an owner makes sure that the animal is getting all the correct nutrients. You cant feed just meat,as its lacking in a lot of the vitamins and minerals dogs needs. You need to feed it along side internal organs, and a variety of other things to get the balance right.
That said i USED to feed mine the BARF diet, but after an emergency op to remove a blockage and 4 broken teeth, i gave up as it wasnt worth the risk to my dogs.
ok what is wrong with you people!!! First of all raw meat is bad for dogs and second fowl(which is what that dog is eating) is extremely bad bird bones splinter in a dogs stomach. And its just sick
The short answer is that it is a more natural diet. Cooking of kibble denatures the protein and the grains are not digestible so lots of waste in kibble.
Always happy to see other raw-feeders out there! We feed our 3 cats and our Aussie a 'pre-made' raw frozen diet (from Nature's Variety) along with some RMB's (raw meaty bones, for those who don't know) and they just LOVE it. I have a video on here showing how crazy the kitties get over their food. A raw diet (done right) is so much more beneficial to dogs and cats than anything you could ever find in a dry kibbled pet food. I feel so bad for all the pets out there eating crap like Beneful. UGH!
I have to agree 100% with this. I just had to put down my chow a few days ago. I now realize that the food I was feeding him was on a recall list. I don't know if that is what did him in....he was 14 yrs after all, but if and when I do get another dog...I will feed hime raw food.
Im not a dog owner nor a educated kind of guy when it comes to how to feed your dog , but I have to say that this seems to be a very effective and good way. For a dog to just eat dry food cant be good can it? Sure doesnt sound right to me.
I fed my GSD's cooked chicken bones for five years (wings and legs) and not once did they have any problems. It also made their teeth healthy.

The rule of the F's probably had a reason way back when but no longer applies. Feed as much raw as possible.
