You can still get this in 1.8.1 just follow the steps:

1.install make a portal

2. let water flood to the entrance but not into it

3. put craftingtable next to the water

4. go into the water and put what you want to duplicate in the crafting table

5. wait until two of the items drops

6. go out pick up

7. go to your inventory and right click the item you picked up

8. enjoy you infinite stack!
