The whole series is called "Perspectives" and this is just one presentation broken up into 7 parts of participants who are anti-nuclear. If you tuned in to other shows, you would hear presentations on coal, gas, wind, etc., as well as many other social issues.
You mention only dozens of nukes built in the U.S. but there are more than a few dozen. The U.S. is #1 with 104 operating reactors, with France #2 with 59 reactors. These numbers are small comparatively. The World Nuclear Assn. proposes to increase the current 440 worldwide by a factor of 20. The world has never seen a construction program of this scale. With the high costs of nuclear energy, this would drive the world into an economic depression, making the current recession look minor.
YES, many nuclear power plants WERE built in last 30 years in USA. DOZENS!!
The last 6 were started in 90, 90, 91, 93, 96, 2007
Comanche Peak, Watts Bar.
In most cases so called "tree huggin hippies" stalled construction for years. In that time interest ballooned. Then when finished 5-10 years later, they say "see, it takes long and its expensive" even though they caused the problem.
Title should be "Nuclear - worth the risk of not considering?" Not perfect, but many advantages.
I did metallurgy on parts for nuclear power plants and as a result of what I learned I don't want to live on the same continent with any nuclear reactors.
If you apply engineering risk calculations to the problem you come to the conclussion that we must build no more nuclear plants.
How is this viewing different perspectives since they state to basically be against nuclear energy from the get-go?

As the saying goes, "If you're bored, you're not paying attention." Many of us find this whole realm fascinating, and alarming, because of:
--the impact nuclear power will have on our children and our grandchildren;
--the devastating impact nuclear power has had on our economy, with numerous reactor defaults from the 1980s/90s;
--because of the impact radiation has on our population;
--and because of the dollars it sucks away from solar, wind, energy efficiency and other real solutions.

No nuclear plants have been built in the US in 30 years, more money for solar and Wind.
What exactly is the impact of radiation on our population?
What about what nuclear power would Empower my grandchildren to do?
Humans are not bad for the planet-- we have technologies which would save the planet. Carbon taxes will ruin us.

Nuclear energy is much more of a solution that solar or wind.
