Esperanto estas mia tria lingvo, mi jam amas gxin tre multe. Bedaurinde Esperanto ne povas salti supre la baron de resistenco. Gxi ne povas venki la inercio. However, they forget that the most laborious aspect of learning a foreign language is acquiring an adequate vocabulary. And the vocabulary of Esperanto is largely Romance and Germanic in origin.

@IpsaPaphum Your opinion is valid, but your reasoning is flawed. What would you suggest instead of using a relatively easy constructed language? Be monolingual? Learn Mandarin, the most spoken language in the world? Learn the language of whatever the current superpower is? Entirely invent the vocabulary (e.g. Solresol)?

@ghenulo I think you misunderstood me. What I meant was that the fact that a language has certain non-Indo-European characteristics doesn't necessarily make it easier to learn for native speakers of a non-Indo-European language. The vocabulary is ALWAYS the most difficult part to master of any language.

@hailvishnu Because you don't understand Esperanto so you only hear their accents and not the meaning of the words they're saying.

Actually, there's the rub: you see, I can't normally hear different accents in languages that I can't speak.  I speak English and Spanish, so I can identify the difference between a Puerto Rican, an Argentine, and a Spaniard.

I don't speak Portuguese. I can't tell the differnce between a Portuguese, a Brazilian, and a Mozambican, because I don't speak that language.

There are so many international languages around - even some based on Esperanto itself, like Ido for example. I think that all of them share the same objective of a language for the understanding of mankind, but it's just that some are more popular than others...
