well i dont think dead space was scary in the slightest i have to agree majoras mask had the most shit your self scary moment at the end their & i was 17 when i first played that part
The scariest thing that I saw in a non-horror videogame is in The Legend Of Zelda:Twilight Princess; it's Blizzeta's face later that he saw the mirror:his eyes turn red and sharpened teeth appear in his mouth.I think it's so scary!!! o_o
XD @ #9 on the recap. "WHOA NO!" Chuggaa FTW! Shame you didn't include his infamous "I JUST HAD TO OPEN MY MOUTH!" voice clip when you showed the Waterwraith appearing. Ah well.
@Dragonmist19X Well the top comment is about just that, I used his scream in the recap and I even mentioned it in the video description. So no, it's not that weird.
"Imagine this, it's 1999, you're 4 years old and you're playing Super Mario 64"... this is why I can never relate to all these Nintendo 64 fans. Add another 10 years and we're getting somewhere. No wonder everyone who makes these kinds of videos love the N64, you where all little kids at the time. Little kids are idiots, they have no taste, I know this because when I was a little kid I liked the 'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe' cartoon. When you're 14... Mario 64 is not impressive.
@banjotenie No actually, I don't have to admit that, because it's not true. Super Mario 64 was nothing more than a scavanger hunt game, and a rather boring one at that. Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot both came only few months later in Japan/USA and 6 months EARLIER in Europe, and had better gameplay, better camera, better graphics, and a more defined theme. These games where in development at the same time. Super Mario 64 did NOT inspire them, it created no innovation at all.
i enjoyed this countdown, but i can't really understand what makes some of these scary.in particular, your no.1 the moon.i didn't even see my most disturbing level on this list, which is Tourian from Super Metroid.that place is mega scary....or at least it was.i DO understand Valhalla...i felt the same when i entered the place for the first time.i was expecting metroids there...heh.and,i did enjoy Distortion World,i loved that place and the music in it.i guess it is strange, but it didn't get to me
@JuanitoJohnes53 The fourth wall is the imaginary wall between the audience and the stage in a play. There's the left and right walls, the back wall, and the imaginary fourth wall. The fourth wall is treated as an actual wall, so the cast can't "break" through the wall and acknowlege the audience. Breaking the fourth wall is doing just that; talking to the audience of a play, the viewers of a show, or the players of a game.
Great list! Personally, I found Snowpeak Ruins from Twilight Princess to be somewhat unnerving (or maybe I jut hated the level). Also, if you've ever played Animal Crossing, the song K.K. Dirge makes ANY room in your house scary especially if the lights are out and/or you have creepy furninture like the Halloween or mad scientist stuff.
anyone else here can recommend a scary game? thats not any of the Amnesia series (penumbra), or the condemned cause their not really scary lol or resident evil or fear i want a survival horror game that really actually scares you.
@orc9925 The fourth wall is the fictional wall that separates the world of a game or movie and the world of our reality. Think of a theatre stage with three walls: the back, left and right. The audience's perspective is through an invisible fourth wall: The actors act with us viewing them, yet do not notice us. Breaking the fourth wall means that the actors accept the world that exists outside their own: reality.
@rabbidluigi i was on the edge of my seat for the whole countdown... until that final scene in the video. XD it's just like i tell everybody, you can put the heavy in anything and cut the tension into tiny pieces
Speaking from a purely heterosexual standpoint: Goddamnit your voice is sexy. It works incredibly well with these types of videos, due to it's smoothness and normalty, compared to the harsh, abrasive dialect of so many others on here. It's very approachable and easy on the ears and is much less grating than many of the others. Not to sound like a sycophant, but Great Job!
what about the spooky chapter in conker´s bad fur day?
it has a really immersive music and you have to go all around the place with zombies and that creepy music AND finding keys.
the zombies in there scared the shit out of me when i was a kid, especialy the one ones that comes around from the corners unexpectly, but that´s not all, A FUCKING SCARY MUSIC PLAYS WHEN THEY HIT YOU, the first time i was atacked by them and that music played, i jumped, seroiusly
I just realized that the music they used in Heck is used in a bunch of cartoons as well. Ren and Stimpy, for example. I wonder where the song originally came from...
I suggest you look into the Shadow Temple from Ocarina of Time. It contains a disturbing atmosphere for a children's video game and has a disturbing enemy (Dead Hand). I am sensing you already knew, but decided not to put it here. Also, Thief: The Dark Project is another contender, partly due to the fact that you steal from a house that is guarded by spirits. All in all, a nice video to watch.
The submerged castle's theme sounds more like the shadow temple from oot a very disturbing level with a disturbing back story and a disturbing theme with disturbing music.
Majora's Mask was such an incredible game. I felt that Skyward Sword, while really a top-notch experience lacked that disturbing uncertainty of MM and OoT.
The cave of the past still haunts me... even the half-cheery trumpets before you go back in time freaks you out a little, and then this desolate place in the past... god, it's dreary...
I knew Majora's Mask was going to be ranked #1, for several reasons. But I thought you were going choose it because of LInk's Song of Emptyness statue. XD
You didn't show Giygas when the background goes nuts and how it looks like a fetus, or the level in Dragon Quest VIII where the area and the monsters are shadow-like.
You atempt to get the fuck out with the elevator you used but it collapses and Lament for Pvt Jenkins plays again. You take another route but leads down to a blood stained shaft filled with more flood. eventually you get out but you then get sent to the library
you should have included the level 343 Guilty Spark from Halo CE since it introduces you to the flood. okay, it starts off with grunts and jackals running away pissing themselves as you land. There is a distress beacon goin on. an unknown explosion goes off. unusual gunfire comin from an A shaped building. a bloody mess of corpses. A panicked Marine shooting every moving thing. than the fate of Fireteam charlie and the flood is revealed.
Yet i agree with this list . . .never actually comapred Metroid Prime 3 with Dead space though . . . Got to admit though its the same feeling both the games give me.
Woah, never though of the moon like that... Oh, and I disagree with the piano in Mario. Mimi's neck-break, head-spin, spider-transformation in Super Paper Mario was WAY creepier...
.(cont)1. This will always be the darkest Zelda game, if not the darkest Nintendo game. That damn moon staring at you, Majora in general. Heck the only thing that keeps this level not being to disterbing is the Fierce Destiy Mask and that you can destroy Majora with it.
7 (cont) Drawica made a pact with Zero (yes THAT Zero, bleeding eye himself) to gain her power. Once she was defeated, Zero took over and made her into...that thing. And why does World of Drawica remind me of Silent Hill?
6. I can see why people hate this level...
5. Anyone but me notice that Pokemon started to get really dark these days? This level proves it.
4. Dead Space 1.0
3. The screams in the background make this level unnerving.
Man, the beginning was really good, kinda reminded me of the 3rd Scarecrow level from Arkham Asylum.
10. I was expecting The Clocktower, but yeah, this level was creepy. It doesn't help that you can see the remains of Oswald's children scattered around (the blue paint blotches).
9. Paranoia in a NIntendo game, why am I not surprised?
8. Let the childhood trama begin! (damn that piano!)
7. Ya wanna know something really scary? (cont. on next post)
That's true. If anything, lack of blood can be more disturbing. For example, getting punctured on your hand, but no blood coming out. An actor has said that happened to him, though I don't recall who. Still, that's a good example of a lack of blood being disturbing.
@rabbidluigi You know....when you mentioned in Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask how the kids would ask you the "questions", i decided to bring out my N64 and i just so happen to a save file when i was at those parts of the game. And when they asked me all the questions i thought to myself REAL hard about them....they were soooo....right? But the one where it said "If you do the right thing....Does it really make...everybody....happy?", it sounds like a hidden message or something... :(
Hmm. Well. I have agreements and disagreements, but 'tis expected, and it's purely opinion anyway.
Valhalla... oh God does this belong on the list. Couldn't agree with you more with that.
My only real disagreement is Planet Heck. Primarily because... well, that's Earthworm Jim for you. It's intended to be like that. I just can't really call it disturbing because of the "elevator music", evil lawyers and killer snowman. Too much to take it serious. Heh. I actually find that level hilarious.
8. I still found the Palace of Shadow to be creepier
7. YEAH
6. Sounds creepy from what I hear
5. creepy...
4. Wait, how were you able to get the screen cap of the title of your video before it was uploaded? And I still find Phaaze more disturbing. But even so, this level is indeed disturbing
3. When you said an entire game, I thought of Earthworm Jim.
man how could you forget about dead hands from ocarina of time and beneath the well level from it THOSE made me not want to play my nintendo anymore awesome game heck it even taught me how to read but there was SO many creepy things that i don't realise until now and now that i do i wonder how the crap were they ever put in there but still i wouldn't change em for the fact of the game was awesome
I find it odd to notice that the theme music for Planet Heck on that game has the same theme as the one from Fantasia: Night on Bald Mountain... Didn't see that one coming...
Fun Fact: Planet Heck sounds like Night on Bald Mountain from Disney's Fantasia. Watch it, and hear the eerie similarities...and be glad Planet Heck doesn't have a Chernabog-like creature...
I've played all of these levels and beaten them. I can't say that much for some of the other countdowns I've seen. (envies all owners of Arkham Asylum)

.(cont)1. This will always be the darkest Zelda game, if not the darkest Nintendo game. That damn moon staring at you, Majora in general. Heck the only thing that keeps this level not being to disterbing is the Fierce Destiy Mask and that you can destroy Majora with it.
Nice countdown BTW.
darkwee009 3 months ago
@darkwee009 Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem. That is all.
hockeater 3 months ago
@hockeater Oh yeah, THAT game. Never before has a game managed to make you go "WTF" until Batman: Arkham Asylum.
darkwee009 3 months ago
@darkwee009 Eternal darkness did it first with you the player being targeted by all kinds of developer crafted mind screw.
hockeater 3 months ago
@hockeater Indeed. It's funny how a NINTENDO listenced game can be so disterebing.
Then again this is the same company that has a childlike demonic mask, a creepy being of pure evil, and a giant bleeding eyeball.
darkwee009 3 months ago
7 (cont) Drawica made a pact with Zero (yes THAT Zero, bleeding eye himself) to gain her power. Once she was defeated, Zero took over and made her into...that thing. And why does World of Drawica remind me of Silent Hill?
6. I can see why people hate this level...
5. Anyone but me notice that Pokemon started to get really dark these days? This level proves it.
4. Dead Space 1.0
3. The screams in the background make this level unnerving.
2. Giygas, when HONF takes a form.
darkwee009 3 months ago
Man, the beginning was really good, kinda reminded me of the 3rd Scarecrow level from Arkham Asylum.
10. I was expecting The Clocktower, but yeah, this level was creepy. It doesn't help that you can see the remains of Oswald's children scattered around (the blue paint blotches).
9. Paranoia in a NIntendo game, why am I not surprised?
8. Let the childhood trama begin! (damn that piano!)
7. Ya wanna know something really scary? (cont. on next post)

I think the distortion world music is peaceful!

And whats with the Fotain from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time ?
Come on there is blood EVERYWHERE !
MrFill11 3 months ago
@MrFill11 You don't need blood for something to be disturbing...
rabbidluigi 3 months ago 14
@rabbidluigi
That's true. If anything, lack of blood can be more disturbing. For example, getting punctured on your hand, but no blood coming out. An actor has said that happened to him, though I don't recall who. Still, that's a good example of a lack of blood being disturbing.
laughingfurry 3 months ago
@rabbidluigi You know....when you mentioned in Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask how the kids would ask you the "questions", i decided to bring out my N64 and i just so happen to a save file when i was at those parts of the game. And when they asked me all the questions i thought to myself REAL hard about them....they were soooo....right? But the one where it said "If you do the right thing....Does it really make...everybody....happy?", it sounds like a hidden message or something... :(
palindinX 2 months ago
@rabbidluigi if so he would have replace world of drawcia with zero 1

Hmm.
Heh. I actually find that level hilarious.

left 4 dead 2's sugar mill, the constant witch crying.............*shudder*

10. wow
9. Yikes
2. Scary from what I hear
1. YEAH

Not too complain, but... have you ever played Jet Force Gemini? Tawfret and the Space Station are pretty... scary.

Man, gotta love the ghost ship in Okami and the G.F.S. Valhalla...My heart dropped so far when I found out I NEEDED to go to the Valhalla...
And I for one think that the Reaper from Persona 3 could of worked. Just hearing those chains going through that infernal place...

I find it odd to notice that the theme music for Planet Heck on that game has the same theme as the one from Fantasia: Night on Bald Mountain... Didn't see that one coming...
darklion793 3 months ago 14
@darklion793 in elevator music form! and tortured screams...
MatterSplatterMan 3 months ago
Fun Fact: Planet Heck sounds like Night on Bald Mountain from Disney's Fantasia. Watch it, and hear the eerie similarities...and be glad Planet Heck doesn't have a Chernabog-like creature...

I WIN!
I've played all of these levels and beaten them. I can't say that much for some of the other countdowns I've seen. (envies all owners of Arkham Asylum)
