Such freaks of patients dipreshins, it would be necessary to know the v-person that remove nearb,y stand to sit and not to have something in common therefore as Stinks from them of nazism...and antisemi...That everyone knew from it the mean Lars Fon Trier physiognomy stinks of nazism and racism....
I didn't think the movie was anti-American, per se. It was honest about people in general and what people are all about. If you were to put Danish people in a "Dogville situation"--having someone else totally at their mercy--I think you'd get the same result. The point is we're not noble animals. We pursue our self-interest first, and then, if it's convenient, we might do a little for others to get that warm feeling which is the motive for what we call altruism. Just another form of payment.
This film doesn't get the praise it deserves because of the director's political views, which should have no bearing on others views of his work, but here - in America - is nation first.
"I'm not a communist" don't worry Lars the blacklist is over. Of course the real controversy here is whether or not Nicole smokes. It's like OMG so important!
I thought Dogville was such a fantastic movie and I was so disappointed that she didn't end up playing Grace in the sequel. I have yet to see the sequel but plan to watch it soon. Though I highly doubt that anybody will be able to replace Nicole Kidman as Grace! She was phenomenal.
Why is this video no available anymore??? i want to see it!! i saw the movie and i think its great!.. Nicole Kidman, all the others actors and Lars von Trier made a great team..
Plus I think these press meetings would be murder unless you're with the right people and this didn't look like they were with the wrong people.
Stellan and Nicole seemed to be chummy, Nicole and Lars have a connection, they're all making jokes while getting to the point of the answer to a quesiton.
Ironically, it might have been Lars' pushiness here that she announce her participation in the rest of the trilogy that actually put her off doing them. There's clearly a tension between the two anyway.
i believe it mainly had to do with lars and the script for manderlay.. it took him longer then he thought to write it up and by the time it was ready nichole had another project and he couldnt wait.... or it could be as some may say, that he was too much a of a ball buster and it was too hard to do another movie with him being so intense in his demand on the actors
would have killed the dog and spared the baby and there's only one bullets route for the rapists thats up the arse. and ofcos the spanking he so craved for with a belt buckle. sweet.
I noticed that in this story the Nicole Kidman is a hostage to this small town, then the small town becomes the hostage of the Mafia. In King Kong a girl is a hostage to savages and to Kong, then Kong becomes a hostage to man that makes man look like the savage and Kong look like the humane.

Nicole is soooo bland. she is the epitome of bland. But I guess she follows direction quite well, which is why she was quite perfect for this film. She begged to work with him, yes?
Thank you Lars von Trier for showing us the ugliness of the small town. I hate small towns so much I've created an open publishing blog at blogspot. it's called waragainstsmalltownminds. I want everyone who has issues with their small town to feel free to vent here. Thank you and goodnight.
You missed the point, the Dogville residents aren't supposed to be unique monsters, they are intended to represent all people. The movie has a misanthropic view of human beings. I did love the ending though. One of the best revenge climaxes. If you like Dogville see Titus or Ms 45 or I Spit On Your Grave.
The end don´t show a misanthropic view of the world as many critic says...for me show the Cynical razional that bring the people to think that the world would be a better place without the bad people...
This idea is totally wrong because, in a stereotypical way, the dark side help to see the light one...
If you are not thinking in a stereotypical way, these thinking is still wrong because a person can´t be completelly evil...
I think the film is very much open for individual interpretation. I thought the townspeple got what they deserved. I don't think Grace was killing them out of revenge, I think she believed that she was doing the right thing.
7 childish ornaments and seven children. That really drew my attention on the spot;yet, I couldnt see that the way the creepy mother punished Grace by breaking the ornaments would be returning her back as cruelly as possibble (even much more severe) by Grace was coming...Utterly shocking and brutal...
I have a feeling Lars was messing with us. That's what most people found when they saw the ending, as for me it was sort of the other way around. I thought Grace had gone mad with revenge but then I started to side with her and interpret it as justice...maybe I'm psychotic, I don't know
This movie is magical... it's strange that the first time I saw it I felt it was uncomfortable that it was filmed as a theater play, but the story is so good that after half an hour you totally forget about it! In the end I had sworn to have seen the snow and the houses and trees!! Lars is a genious and this movie has added a lot to my philosophy about life
And then.. she didn't to the trilogy after all

The guy's a pushover with a camera; it's like giving a machine gun to a bullied child. Although I will admit: he uses it well.
