I try to keep an open mind on these subjects,Ive been a member of a research society in the past, but the basic question to me is, why have none of these powerful mediums ever made post mortum contact, as far as I know, to anyone but their own friends and admirers. Surely there would be no better proof?

Hi. There have been times over the last 150 years when it was claimed other mediums came through (listen to some of the Leslie Flint recordings). But that seems a odd criteria for judging the validity of this sort of thing. For a good overview of the evidence you should check out David Fontana's book "Is There An Afterlife"- it's the best single volume I can think of. You might also want to look at what are known as the "Cross Correspondences" and the research involving Leonora Piper.
