Well, I understand that Hamas leader Meshaal (in Syria!) gets his orders from Iran. But Shalit (alive) is of no use to IRAN, there is nothing they demand from Israel in exchange for him. If the Iranians had him, they would kill him immediately. The palestinians however need Shalit because they want palestinian prisoners freed. And he is their insurance, because they think Israel won't attack Gaza as long as they have Shalit. So it's more logic for them to keep him in Gaza.

And now it seems as if the government will release many murderers in exchange for him. Why didn't they make a deal BEFORE the war and sent these security prisoners to Gaza (and kill them there)?

By the way: Aviv Geffen went on tour in Germany in january. He gave interviews, talking about the war, but he didn't mention Shalit's fate. What a pity!
