Adding "fantastical" elements and making the film "light-hearted and breezy" is what hurt Hex the most.

If they had taken more of a Batman Begins/TDK route and gone with more of a True Grit atmosphere and setting, Hex could have been a modern classic.

Just because something is based on a comic book doesn't mean it has to conform to the same formula as others, Nolan's films are proof of this.

@SquareMaster316 They went a little overboard on giving him "occult powers", but I'm glad that the movie is not a straight western. The Jonah Hex that I love from the comics travels in time, fights monsters/robots/space-men, and still manages to be a good-old-fashioned "vigilante cowboy". It may not be your flavor, and I'm not saying the movie was a masterpiece, but the Hex I know and love has had a "pretty interesting life"...

@TomatoeAssassin Just like Batman, there are many different versions of Jonah Hex. @Ikarosus probably likes the stories with him as a straight cowboy, but in true comic-book fashion Jonah's history has spilled over into the supernatural and science-fiction genres. There's no shame in liking the movie because there isn't just one Hex that is the definitive Hex. @Ikarosus likes one of them, you and I can like another. It's our choice (even if *you* just choose the movie version)...

Although I was excited for Jonah Hex, it was sort of doomed from the start, especially when you have a director who made Horton Hears a Who, make a gritty, R rated Western movie.

It'd be like having the new R rated Deadpool movie (if it comes out) being directed by John Lasseter (the guy who directed Toy Story and Cars).

I went to see the movie, and to be honest, the movie was well done. The soundtrack was more subtle. It was very gritty western look and the music was great though the drums got a bit heavy during the climax but it was great. GO SEE JONAH HEX!!!
