As a european watching this as an outsider... who would you americans say have had the most influence when it comes to the increased popularity of soccer in the states over the last, lets say 5 years, Landon Donovan or David Beckham?
@Nbstddk beckham n henry are doing their share but donovan has worked his ass off for the sport in this country like no other has done b4, seing henry n beckham dont play in the usa team then donovan should get teh most credit becuase what the people like to see is their usa nation wining matches not league teams, league teams are to keep em into soccer now national teams are to creat a love n pation for the sport in this country so my opinion donovan has had a major influence
@bbourdet03 You have a point. I wish we Americans put as much money, time, and effort into soccer as we do to football, baseball, and basketball. Then we would be even more powerful in the world.
@FMEngle College football might be cool, but its too bad you cant play against any other countries in the world because no one else cares about it. :-(
Love to see the gringos finally got hooked with the beautiful game, its really nice to share also with them that passion. Respectfully, may you be welcome, neighbors from your best foe. Look forward to meet that growing affectation of yours at the Copa de Oro. Viva Mexico!!
@kabong1981 I watched the goal happen live, and the emotions I felt cannot be described. I thought we were going to be eliminated from the World Cup, my heart was breaking, and then in one moment we won the group, which the USA has not done in 80 years. I was so happy, so filled with emotion. Thanks for your kind words :)
LOL! Yeah, that dude with the glasses really stands out, then tries does a whole 360 of the place lookin for someone to high-five at 0:43. Sorry dude with glasses, no one wants to high-five with you. :)
Lol, when I read your first comment I bust up laughing but looking back he did get his high-fives; 0:30, two at 0:35, 0:46, 0:48. At the end though with the chant...that was pretty awkward especially how he put his hands toward his face lol.
Yes, I did see that. Well, if you watch closely at 0:30, guy with glasses gets bonked in the back of the head by the dude behind him. I think that's what prompts him to try the high-fiving and chanting. Again, sorry guy with glasses, but not only do you get bonked in the head, but no one wants to high-five nor chant with you.
@oimiedoso when you live in a third world country, the rich people gave you a ball and thats how you have fun....so your life was pointless until we gave you a ball to play with (three dots)
@zaneps151 i never said people were smart...thats why people play the game its easy and if you dont score its a tie (it makes people feel better about not losing). Soccer is pointless and you know it. we can argue this all day.

@hanj31 Absolutely true. I went from a very casual soccer fan to an absolute diehard while watching the World Cup this year. Everyone was brilliant, but Donovan gave us a moment that no one who saw it will ever forget.

The black guy at the back never put his hands up when landon scored the goal... he's like, "WTF is goin on here?" ...but he actually did at the end, "Ah alright i feel you, LETS PARTAY!!!"
@thesportsdude90 and yes the miracle on ice was bigger in terms of the context of the situation... But this was an amazing sports moment that, for a window of time, united a country that is rarely united in terms of sports. And this is a bigger deal than you are making of it. This was so important because everyone assumes no one cares about soccer in this country. That's why this is so exciting. Times are changing and the people who don't see that are just going to be left behind.
@thesportsdude90 what you don't seem to grasp (and you wouldn't, because you're not a fan of global sports) is that this scene happened all across the united states. In every single state, every single city in this country people were going apeshit and cheering. Jordan's last second shot? No one outside of chicago went crazy so dont even try. The casual sportscenter junkie goes "wow" and talks about it the next day at lunch, but no one else cried, jumped, and screamed there lungs out for it.
@edusrsmusic Sure you do. I'm sure this was the scene in Chicago when Jordan hit the last shot in the 1998 Finals...1980 Miracle on Ice was bigger also. This was great but seriously soccer fans, great moments happen in every sport.
though im korean i was soo happy that USA got that goal, my mom was sleeping on the couch and i just yeled in excitment then she told me to go outside and stay for 30 min
@Gutsyndicate yes, globally soccer would make people scream. But here in America we scream about the NFL, and feel magic from it. I love soccer, but the american football is what I grew up to.
@AlohaMaggieSteele Are you kidding me? Seattle Sounders averaged 30,000 per game last year....you want to see screaming? Check it out on youtube...People in America do scream about soccer too...not just the NFL.
@Loukas1964 I didn't say that Americans dont scream for soccer, Ive watched a Seattle Sounder game and I agree. I was just telling the person that americans scream for the NFL not just soccer.

@AlohaMaggieSteele i'am from Italy and i love soccer but i watch all kind of sport, for example i found rugby much much more interesting of the american football where there are too many breaks.

@Hombre261 yall made a great run! great job placing 3rd! a bunch of people here in the U.S. were rooting for you. excpecially after yall trounced England haha.
I'm happy the World Cup for the USA is over. IMO, our participation in the Cup erodes our uniqueness. Soccer feels so....'foreign'. Soccer isn't even in our Top 3 sports and I LOVE that about the U.S.. we are not like 'them'. I take pride in the fact that, unlike the rest of the world, we don't become hysteric, flag waving, crying maniacs over a soccer game. It's for the same reason we don't see flag burnings, mass protests, & parliamentary governments. It's because WE ARE UNIQUE.
How do you show them with greatest loss against Ghana ? Come on, let's videotaped at them, the Yankees, to showing their damning instincts after scored 2-1 from Ghana.
last minute goals are always emotional. especially if it carries a team to the next round. i shouldve skipped class and watched this legendary moment. simply the best moment of the world cup so far
For all americans: U r welcome to the football world! For me is amazing to see USA fans reacting like latin football fans. This a Pele legacy, since COSMOS at the 70's...cheers for u all. Donovan is a great player. 'Hey Donovan: Come to FLAMENGO from Rio de Janeiro!!!' Congratulations to US Team...nice Cup.
Okay let me just explain something to everyone. If you would have recorded this in Birmingham, England.. at the Litten Tree in Sutton Coldfield.. you would have seen how much better the atmosphere was.. the light swere dimmed, 200 packed into the place.. and when England scored, we were literally going mad, drinks been thrown everywhere, hugging and clutching to each other.. it meant so much. You have just scored in the 93rd minute of a game.. and you act as though it's not even that important.
I've never had so much fun watching a sporting event, one of those watershed moments I know I will never forget. Also glad my international friends have been supportive. Go USA!!!!
It felt so unfair with two goals being dismissed and I was watching this game and wanted so bad for you guys to win! I think I was screaming for a whole minute when Donovan scored! Croatia was also a "small" team in 98 world cup and we came third in the end. You have lots of fans across the world, people love great sport stories :) Go USA!!!!
Myths that the US doesn't care about futbol anymore .... busted. Hundreds of these videos from all over the country. Every sports bar in Atlanta was packed at 10am on a Wednesday morning - and people went berzerk.
i have to say that this one guy at my job says "soccer sucks" and that HURTS! it doesn't matter what sport, American pride comes out in EVERY SPORT!!! i am not a HUGE soccer fan, but i will watch team USA AND the Chicago Fire! i played soccer when i was a kid. these reaction videos r so cool! u gotta wonder how many more soccer fans the USA is getting from watching the world cup! GO USA!!
I just want to say I am happy to see a lot of class coming from fans from abroad, thank you all from the other countries that have wished our team luck.
@xxInfectionx but seriously americans arent the only ones in the world who call it soccer...I'm pretty sure the irish and some australians call it soccer also...but in the long run...does it really matter?
soccer won't be a number 1 sport in america because it doesn't have enough breaks in the game for tv commercial advertisements.... any other reason is complete nonsense and should be ignored.....
@alezaps23 We really are. I have never seen our country so united over anything in my lifetime as we were after that one goal. One team, in one second, reunited the United States. Beautiful!
the fat couple in the front and that nerd with the glasses have no clue whats going on, fuck it everyone else is screaming

Americans don't like football, never have done.. it's football, not soccer. Stuff your commercialised sports and get with the worlds greatest game.

@08avfclion09 football isn't commercialized?!

08avfclion09 1 year ago
@08avfclion09 well sure, but if you're trying to enstil some sort of superiority based on THAT; it's not happening.

Every sports bar in Atlanta was packed at 10am on a Wednesday morning - and people went berzerk.

soccer won't be a number 1 sport in america because it doesn't have enough breaks in the game for tv commercial advertisements.... any other reason is complete nonsense and should be ignored.....

Thank you. I hope they also understand that a low scoring sport doesn't mean it's boring. This video illustrates why that is.
loconet 1 year ago
@alezaps23 We really are. I have never seen our country so united over anything in my lifetime as we were after that one goal. One team, in one second, reunited the United States. Beautiful!
