Most of these people have 4wd! I guess you have to know how to use it though! When your sliding in 4wd hit the gas and turn or throw it in reverse. If your brakes are locked than you are stopped and can change gears even if you are sliding. I live in the rocky mountains and do stuff like that all the time.

I'm guessing you don't live in an area that snows frequently and apparently neither do most of the people writing in. I live in the mountains of upstate NY. I have studded snows all the way around my Suburban and have no problem going up or down virtually any incline. When it is very icy you stay out of the ruts and in the deeper snow or on the shoulder where there is snow generally means traction and little ice.

chains are mandatory in certain parts of the country when your driving through the mountains. The state cops actually stop people and loan out chains in certain parts.

Tire chain laws are only mandatory for Commercial vehicles of Medium to Heavy weight. And there are only 7 states that have Specific Tire Chain Laws in place. Passenger vehicles, especially newer models can be damaged very easy by tire chains. The CV Joints love to deteriorate very quickly when driven with chains. Not to mention sidewalls and most of the newer Passenger tires will fatigue rapidly with chains as well.

It's the drivers falt, thats why they have canada's worst driver. To show how freakin dumb todays drivers are. The best thing to do is never use the breaks that much on a hill like that. Turn the wheel let go of the break and move out of the way. Or if that doesnt work turn the wheels twards the curb so the wheel gets cuaght on the side and brings the car to a stop.
