Its eating/killing the Grunt, not infecting it. They use Grunts, Jackles, and Hunters as biomass and other Flood things. They also combine them with Carrier forms sometimes to make it grow more Infection forms inside it.

Hey guys i thought ide let you know that the flood do actually infect grunts and jackals, its just thay they are not big enough to become combat forms so they become carrier forms (lumpies) which explode into infection forms when shot
