That white cat blowing mad harp is none other than 18 year old Paul Oscher playing with Muddy in Germany in 1968.The rest of Muddys killer band was: OTIS SPANN, SP. LEARY, PEE WEE MADISON, SONNY WIMBERLY, MUDDY WATERS AND LUTHER "GEORGIA BOY SNAKE" JOHNSON - GERMANY 1968
I'm sure it's Oscher. It SOUNDS like Butterfield, and he moves like Butterfield, but if you look real closely at the face, it's NOT Butterfield. Butterfield did play with Muddy on Fathers & Sons.
yes SP Leary in the Version of the Canadian TV show 1966 with james Cotton on Harp....You should that Willie "BIg Eyed" Smith Rocked the SOng many times as he played behind Muddy, he used a Jazz Blues Style..not just the tradinitonal jump Beat.....the Drummer in NEwport jazz Festival playing with Muddy in 1960 is Crazy
the mojo is from the hoodoo religion. the mojo is a red, green etc..bag that contains bontanicals, black cat bones, john the conqueror root, claws etc. with an anointing oil to keep the "evil magic" working for success, money or the like.
Nope.. The original song is By Ann Cole.. Muddy saw her perform it, and then used it himself. He has written some new lyrics for it and adepted the music to his own style. Only the baseline remained the same..
The harp player is Paul Oscher one of today's (and yesterday's as well) best harmonica-man in the whole world. Tku for posting, send more Muddy and Paul stuff, I really, much much appreciate your job, jerryboogie. Let's Blues together.
If you get a chance to see Paul Oscher live, don't miss it. Great performer and he's a great guitar player in addition to harp. Super approachable too and willing to share some funny stories about his days in Muddy's band. He really struck me as one of the "good guys" in the biz.
Many thanks for posting. Believe it or not, I was noodling this tune on guitar just a couple of minutes before I spotted this. Noticed that in the "old days" the camera actually held on the players, rather than cut-cut-cut every 1.25 seconds. Nothing could be more interesting or entertaining that watching Muddy's expressive face or the harp player's incredible performance.
The best blues singer I ever heard even if I like lots of other Bluesmen but Muddy ghas a raw and at the same time very sophisticated way of singing the Blues and it's just amazing !!!!!!
kind of funny that the white guy is in the back of the band

Im sorry to say, but i likes this version better than with James Cotton. I think Paul makes this better.
tage92 3 years ago
tage92:better than James Cotton's version? hohoho you must be on meth or somethin', only a retard would compare Paul with Mr.Cotton.
Another explanation is that you are just a new blues listener., what else could it be?
kontiki78 2 years ago
Thats not true, i just like this better. Ofcourse James Cotton is a great harp player but at this song i think this is the best version

People don't give enough credit to the 1950's African American Motown artists. They essentially pioneered classic rock.

Motown the label didn't exist until 1959 I think.
