Although a compelling story, these men were not matyrs, they were criminals. Terrorists and murders, who were part of an organization that killed more innocent people then anyother group involved in the troubles. They killed more Catholics then any other group. The true Catholic heros of the troubles, were those who fought in the RUC, UDR, and British Security Forces to protect the innocent.

However, what I am against is the promotion of a group of terrorists as heros and matyrs. What I am against is the narrow minded perspective this film and other films like it gives. There's not an anti-Republican bias - there's an anti-terror bias, which is fair enough. I was an extra in this film. There was one part it was meant to be a riot or something and there were sponge bricks and candles(petrol bombs) flying all over the place it was great fun.
This movie was amazing - I was looking forward to seeing it for a long time and while I have no hard feelings for either the British or the Irish, I enjoyed seeing another perspective on the IRA.

ABSOLUTELY WRONG! The British Army was sent in to maintain order after a series of pitched street battles between Catholics and Protestants and security forces (i.e. Battle of the Bogside). Actually, the army recived no warmer welcome than from the Catholics who saw them as protectors against loyalist pogroms. The IRA only truly re-emerged AFTER the deployment of British soldiers. In fact the brutality of British soldiers played a huge part in the growth of the IRA.
Brits went into Six Counties as 'peace keeping' forces in '69 after Derry and Belfast riots and enjoyed warm hospitality from the residents of Nationalist community...But then,Bloody sunday changed everything and the Nationalist mood turned strongly against the Brits,seeing them as just another force of oppression which also the IRA took as a legitimate target...And here you're right,British army assisted Loyalists in collusion to break the Republican movement and the IRA...Sad but true...

The Irish War of Independence was a bonafide revolutionary war aimed at securing independence from the UK. The armed campaign that this film is romanticising was carried out by a bunch of thugs in balaclavas murdering kiddies. You can't compare the two. However, what I am against is the promotion of a group of terrorists as heros and matyrs. What I am against is the narrow minded perspective this film and other films like it gives. The IRA are not heros, they are criminals that took advantage of a bad situation and made it worse.

ABSOLUTELY WRONG! The British Army was sent in to maintain order after a series of pitched street battles between Catholics and Protestants and security forces (i.e. Battle of the Bogside). Actually, the army recived no warmer welcome than from the Catholics who saw them as protectors against loyalist pogroms. The IRA only truly re-emerged AFTER the deployment of British soldiers. In fact the brutality of British soldiers played a huge part in the growth of the IRA.

If you agree with me that you've got your country back now then you're talking about a completely different 'struggle' to the one shown in this film, and actual struggle. The Irish War of Independence was a bonafide revolutionary war aimed at securing independence from the UK. The armed campaign that this film is romanticising was carried out by a bunch of thugs in balaclavas murdering kiddies. You can't compare the two. You cant get this movie on dvd as its seen as being too 'political' so it hasn't being released on dvd yet.

never saw in shops in Ireland in 7 years i lived there
i found it in Italy , it does not exist on dvd only on vhs
