@CoopFx can you make it transparent? if not

goto edit - preferences - performance then un tick the box on the right (on windows)

Just start with a transparent image. When you're setting your dimensions, below the Height and Width options there is a background color option, make sure its on transparent. That way you don't need to mess around with erasing a white background.

You aren't using the background eraser tool. Or youe settings are wrong.

Okay, I found them, I didn't know that if you created a file with a background color, you will have have to unlock the back layer, or you can always create a document with a transparent background, the settings are at the bottom of the new file dialogue. If you create all your files with transparent background you shouldn't have any problems.

ive tried both ways. when i erase where its says layer 0 the preview i can see the pixels but in the actual work space its just a white square.

=i dont know if you know it now( :O), but if you want a square brush, you just need to choose the smallest brush(1 pixel), because a pixel is a square <.<
